Via Jezebel. Maybe it’s one of those ideas that seems really, really funny at the intoxicants-rich engagement celebration, and by the time the interested parties sobered up, too many CGI-and-extras deposits had been made to let it die quietly?
On the other hand, apparently the bride-to-be works for a law firm that “represents clients in all aspects of family law, including complex marital dissolution actions, high conflict custody matters, paternity, and non-marital cohabitation cases… We have represented a wide range of individuals, including rock stars, venture capitalists, Hollywood actors and Olympic medalists.” So maybe it’s a form of native advertising? Or just one of those Hollywood clients working off part of their billed hours?
Omnes Omnibus
The firm’s website says it has done a certain type of work. And?
ETA: I have have gone native in the profession, but I don’t really see the problem.
Anne Laurie
@Omnes Omnibus: Because I found it mildly (as in ‘clown shoes’) entertaining that someone who does “complex marital dissolution actions” for “rock stars, venture capitalists, Hollywood actors” [not that there’s anything wrong with that] put out this particular kind of wedding-related announcement on the public webs?
(Mind you, one of the people we hired to work on our wedding listened to our plans and said, “Ah — a Viking picnic”, so maybe it’s just me.)
ETA: Added a link, for you.
Omnes Omnibus
@Anne Laurie: You don’t think that people in those particular career fields have interests that diverge from those of others? Their lawyers might have other interests? Come on. Really?
Cheap jokes are ever so fun though.

I don’t even know what to make of this. From the comments at Jezebel:
Umm, okay?
I guess I’m just not in a mocking mood. I spent part of the afternoon and again later this evening, after I got home from a few drinks with friends, mocking wingnuts over at the Telegraph.
Anyway, one of the conservatives I was trolling quoted Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones as sources. At which point I realized that I was making fun of people so deluded, so mentally challenged, that they actually thought Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones are credible purveyors of journalism.
So now I feel guilty, like I was kicking a particularly dumb herd of chihuahuas or picking on the mentally disabled.
(Sigh.)

@JGabriel:
There was nothing ‘like’ about it.
JGabriel
@? Martin: Thanks, Martin. That makes me feel better.
Seriously, though, you’re right. Which is why I feel guilty now.
Omnes Omnibus
Does anyone have anything to support AL’s take?
? Martin
@JGabriel: These aren’t people with actual disabilities who cannot help their condition. They are not born this way. Being an idiot is a lifestyle choice. Maybe there’s some peer pressure, they’re a little wingnut-curious, want to be edgy and hip. They reject Jesus’s teachings of kindness to the downtrodden in favor of leading a hedonistic, selfish lifestyle. So no, don’t feel guilty.

@Omnes Omnibus: “For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh at them in our turn?” (Jane Austen, Pride & Prejudice)
? Martin
@Omnes Omnibus: On the one hand, who gives a shit. It’s their deal.
On the other hand, it’s always cringeworthy when people work so hard to reinforce the negative stereotypes of this state.

I didn’t know Corey Hart was black.
Princess
I think it’s a hoot.

There they go again, trying to cram their heterosexuality down our throats.
I think things like this are brought out to represent the “end of empire” or maybe the apex of “the bubble” and it’s all downhill from here.

It’s decadent, I’ll give you that, and if you’re grossed out by the ostentatious display, I can’t quarrel… but I think it’s pretty funny.
At least, I hope it was a joke? Seems very tongue-in-cheek, to me.
BigHank53
Oh, I think the whole thing was just an in-joke intended for their friends. This probably cost a lot less than you might think.* It’s dumb and trashy and so is Hollywood and so are a lot of weddings. If they have a sense of humor about the whole thing I’d give them better odds than a lot of couples.
*I know a professional wedding photographer who’s very good. He offers packages including engagement photos so you have a nice picture for your parents to give to the newspaper along with your wedding announcement. It’s not hard to drop a thousand bucks on just that single image.

Mazel tov.
Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with this. Good on them.

Alright, I’ll confess to having watched it a few times now. I think it’s hysterical.
It’s a lot of money to spend on a joke but, as a send up of wedding excess, it’s awesome.
