Here’s my question to the learned scholar Bundy: Why are so many of them sitting on their porches if they abort their young children because they never learned to pick cotton?
Update: Our deep thinker on the subjects of race and culture probably lost Hannity with this:
“Now let me talk about the Spanish people,” Bundy said in a new video unearthed by New York magazine, right after he concluded his thoughts on “the Negro.”
“I understand that they come over here against our Constitution and cross our borders,” he says. “But they’re here and they’re people. I worked side-by-side a lot of them. Don’t tell me they don’t work, and don’t tell me they don’t pay taxes. And don’t tell me they don’t have better family structures than most of us white people.”
“When you see those Mexican families, they’re together. They picnic together. They’re spending their time together,” he said. “I’ll tell you, in my way of thinking, they’re awful nice people. We need to have those people join us and be with us.”
beth
Holy crap. I was just reading some of the postings on his ranch’s Facebook page and someone actually said “he just wants blacks to get back the work ethic they had in the 1800’s”. Amazing how much work you can get done when someone’s beating you. I really had no idea there were people who were so clueless about slavery. This has been an education for me (and I live in the South!).
BGinCHI
“They never learned to pick cotton.”
Encapsulated in one sentence is the ignorance and inhumanity of the American right wing.
Just think about what it means to utter that sentence in the face of history.
Goddamn I’m sick of these fucking people.
Time to divide the country up into Smartistan and Dumbfuckistan.
West of the Cascades
Fucking asshole — even beyond his racism, there’s so much projection for someone who depends on welfare ranching and despoilation of the public lands for his own selfish private interests. He wouldn’t be alive without public welfare … a damn shame he still is alive.
The Snarxist Formerly Known as Kryptik
@BGinCHI:
The saddest thing that the aftermath of Bundy and the Supreme’s AA rulings, amongst other things, is just how vast and large Dumfuckistan has proven itself to be in this country, depressingly massive at this rate and only growing larger by the day.
Betty Cracker
Bundy denied he is a racist and “clarified” his remarks today on a wingnut radio program:
Yeah, that clears it right up.
Belafon
@BGinCHI: I’m pretty sure Bill Gates, the Koch brothers, and a whole host of billionaires and poorer people never learned to pick cotton.
lamh36
Can’t wait to see what that fucker Hannity had to say now
beth
@Betty Cracker: If the BLM ever gets it shit together and arrests this guy, part of his sentence should be to be strapped in a chair and forced to watch “Roots” and “12 Years a Slave” over and over again.
Comrade Dread
Who could have known that a Neo-Confederate would also be horribly racist?
I am shocked. Shocked!
Betty Cracker
@lamh36: You know, I just might watch that show for the first time ever. Actually, I probably won’t. If something juicy goes down, someone will grab a clip, and that way I won’t have to subject myself to that smarmy prick’s entire show.
SatanicPanic
@beth: Is it wrong of me to want certain white people to learn that “work ethic”. I mean, not because I want them to be hurt, but because I pity them.
BGinCHI
@beth: How about a year on “The Farm” in Louisiana?
SiubhanDuinne
@Betty Cracker:
If something juicy goes down, Jon Stewart will be on it like a duck on a junebug. He’s been on Hannity’s case for a few days now.
GregB
So I think we can safely assume that Clive Bundy is no fan of Abraham Lincoln.
Felonius Monk
Shorter Bundy: “Only white people have the right to mooch off the gummit.”

Bundy video truthers became non-notional in record time:
Ben Grimm
As much as I like me some schadenfreude, I suspect Hannity’s response to this will be “there’s breaking news about Benghazi.”
Adam C
I wonder: does he think there is some sort of Guaranteed Income Program just for black people? That with the end of slavery they no longer had to work but still kept the free room and board that they formerly “enjoyed”?
Jay C
@Betty Cracker:
Well, I’m sure Mr. Bundy – said “slavery” and dependency being so repugnant to him and all – will be only too pleased to help the African-American citizens of his area avoid that awful fate by offering them some well-paying jobs on his ranch, right?
Mr. Bundy?
Frankensteinbeck
@Adam C:
Yes. That is exactly what he thinks ‘welfare’ is. That’s how Reagan told him it works.
And since they think blacks are getting a free ride, they think the system is so easy on blacks that Obama got to be president without earning it, and is cowardly, dumb, irresponsible, lazy, and abuses his power because he has no respect for decent people, the system, and his betters. That’s how racists view a ‘lesser’ race, as overgrown children who aren’t getting enough discipline. They end up describing themselves, most of the time.

@Ben Grimm:
“Fast and Bundy!” “Bundghazi!” “Bundternal Revenue Service!”
Somebody please phone Ed O’Neill.

@Betty Cracker:
How about we all watch that motherfucker’s show together and live blog it. I am feeling especially stabby today.
Xecky Gilchrist
Uh-oh, he said Mexicans were *people*? That is going to torpedo his racist-dumbshit sympathy.
jl
Yeah, why don’t those African-Americans have the initiative to get an independent he-man All-American subsidy system like what Cliven Bundy did: take government stuff without paying and then threaten to shoot its revenooers when they try to collect?
Welcome to post racial America.
Funny that his racial bigotry threatens to damage him, when it didn’t seem to make much news when it came out that he seems to be stretching the truth, or maybe just plain lying(?) about how long his family has owned and controlled land in the area. His story about his ownership and use of the land predating the BLM seems to be false.
Local TV Station Sheds Doubt On Bundy’s Claims About His Family Ranch
“…court records obtained by KLAS indicated the family’s cattle didn’t begin grazing the land until 1954. The Bureau of Land Management was created in 1946 (the same year Cliven Bundy was born.) ”
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/cliven-bundy-ancestral-rights
If you follow the links, IIRC, the claim on the land that he does own goes back to the 1940s. His family was farming and ranching from around 1910, but that was in AZ.
The guy is a federal government welfare king, and he is a bigot. I’ll gladly let Hannity try to excuse this guy all he wants to his weak minded elderly audience. I will watch Colbert and Stewart to get some accurate analysis.
CONGRATULATIONS!
When Glenn Beck – an acknowledged expert on the subject – is telling you that someone is an insane babbling idiot and you should probably not throw in your lot with them, that is about as final a warning as you’re ever going to get.
JPL
@MomSense: I don’t have access to a Fox News stream, so I will pass. Of course, there is no way in hell, I’d watch it anyway. Hannity will say that federal overreach is the problem and the issue is bigger than Bundy.
Socoolsofresh
So, let me get this straight, no more net neutrality, is a snore topic, nothing we can do? But then some Joe the Plumber of the month cattle guy says something racist and ignorant, lets pile on him and feel self superior, over something that is, in the over all scheme of things, insignificant?
It’s like you guys deserve shitty internet service if all you want to do is puff yourself up over superficial bullshit. But look, he owns a ranch and conservatives like him! Meanwhile, the country further slides down into an oligarchy. The only bread and circus you guys need is to be able to make fun of racist conservatives, and you are happy.
ellie
You know, I have had just about enough of this asshole. He has been stealing from all of us taxpayers for years. I am looking forward to his fall out of the public eye and hopefully a jail cell.
Zam
Lets face it the only reason conservatives have turned a bit on him is he used the word “negro” this rhetoric of his is no different than that of mainstream republicans except he didn’t use the code words like “inner city” or “urban”.
SatanicPanic
@Socoolsofresh: Yeah dude, racism is so not a big deal, let’s worry about how fast our internet is.
Belafon
@Socoolsofresh: You could start here: wordpress.com. I hear they are pretty decent at blog hosting.
jl
By the way, as a person who grew up working with side-by-side with African-Americans, Hispanics, (and miscellaneous white trash and Okies, and Sikhs too, BTW) in the fields in central California, Bundy’s talk about Mexicans is bigoted too, IMHO and from my experience. Full of patronizing stereotypes. Just because it sounds nicer, does not mean it is not bigoted and ignorant.
He probably has a history of getting their labor very cheap, which explains his more civil bigotry on Hispanics more than anything else.
I saw a very old book on farm management in California once, from the late 19th century. It was a manual for farmers. It had bigoted descriptions of pretty much any ethnic work gang an olde-tymey California farmer would come across: Irish, black, Mexican, Hindu, Sikh, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, and a few more. Bundy could have been reading out of that book on is testimonial to the Mexicans. Pathetic.
jl
@Socoolsofresh: Huh, Bundy made a statement on internet neutrality too?
There was a post on that earlier. Why not write Cole and tell him what the blog should post every minute of the day, just so it’s done to your satisfaction, and correctly?
Socoolsofresh
@SatanicPanic: Ya, so this guy has major pull in getting slavery reinstated. Meanwhile, you are soon going to have to pay more for shittier service, something that will actually effect you in your real life. This rancher dude means zilch to your actual real life. But ya, keep on thinking you are fighting the good fight by watching some racist self implode.
Socoolsofresh
@Belafon: Just reflecting on how superficial and cheerleader this website has become, don’t need to start my own blog.
bemused
@SatanicPanic:
Hilarious.

@jl: I’m looking forward to Bundy’s future monologues on The Mulatto, The Quadroon, and The Octoroon.
Socoolsofresh
@jl: Ya, no one cared about that post. Not saying how anyone needs to run their website, it’s just interesting how trivial and minor the supposed liberal victories have become, meanwhile in the larger scheme of things, major losses are occurring. But ya, keep on patting yourself on the back for knowing that some racist guy was racist. Must be something you feel proud of.
dan
Socoolsofresh seems unfamiliar with the concept of holding 2 unrelated thoughts in your head at the same time. Racist rancher AND ALSO net neutrality. AND ALSO probably a lot of other things as well, depending on the individual.
Socoolsofresh
@dan: Uh, racist rancher, three posts, 300+ comments. Net neutrality, one post, 35 comments. I think I can make an accurate reflection on where commenters priorities lie. Not saying anything new, you guys love to gloat and preen when conservatives again do some wacky superficial shit, and to act like this actually means anything beyond the political junkie bubble, is laughable. It’s amazing how people complain about how villagers turn trivial shit into something important when it’s not, but then they lap it up nonetheless when it happens.
jl
@dan: And in the net neutrality thread, socoolsofresh was accused of comments that amount to sitting there crying fatalistically that nothing could be done and the cause was lost, and I think with good reason.
I’m not interested in repeated internet neutrality threads so we can all cry in our beer to Socool’s satisfaction.
In the meantime, racial bigotry prejudice and ignorant race-based fear on the part of whites has royally screwed up many very important issues in this country. And has got a lot of reactionary lawmakers elected who take the wrong side of the internet neutrality debate, among other things. But, I guess race is not an important issue.

Yeah, it’s not like black folks were also excluded from the gubmint subsidies of mortgages and college educations in the GI Bill because people like William Levitt wouldn’t sell them homes and colleges wouldn’t let them through their doors.
Oh.

@Socoolsofresh: you need to shut the fuck up with your “use one $5 dollar word a day” self. Oligarchy- what the fuck are you talking about? Your home will always be your parents basement whether there is an oligarchy, monarchy, democracy, etc. you got nothing to worry about. Unless your parents get fucking tired of your dumb ass. Go look up “disencumber” – your face should be next to it.

@Adam C: Yes, he does think that.

@Socoolsofresh: what would your blog be about? “Marvel comic super heroines I would do” ? “My fan letter to Seth Rogan” ? Whatever …

Well, he lost the fox backing – he like Mexican’s, even the ones who aren’t Amerikan citizens. He never got the memo on that subject … I can see the crazy’s dumping him..

@Socoolsofresh: The only important thing about the Bundy story is that this man & his supporters are fomenting armed rebellion against the Federal Government. From reading your comments, it seems this kind of thing doesn’t concern you. It does many of us here. And yes, if allowed to go unchecked, Mr. Bundy’s stand could very well metasticize into similar actions by other aggrieved, reality-challenged folks, a state of affairs that really does have a chance at making a large impact on my quality of life. Other stories in the news at this very moment provide numerous examples.
But I mean, that’s your point, right? That I (we) should focus our attentions only on things that affect us personally right now?
different-church-lady
@Mnemosyne: We have been given the news that scores of veterans have died because incompetent managers hid the fact that they could not be given timely care. Let’s see if Mr. Internets gets around to berating us for not giving that issue enough attention.

We need to have those people join us and be with us.
So they can see close up what a stupid tin shit motherfucker you are?
Don’t lie awake wondering why they take a pass on that one, gramps.

Ok wee little Bundy. Those Mexicans were there in Nevada long before your family moved to their land in 1878. The clue should be “Nevada” is Spanish for “snowy”.

But, ya, don’t read it, and just keep on living in your blind retarded bubble. The things you losers assume about me is hilarious. Rancher dude was never a real threat to the government, but more corporate control is. But ya, keep on thinking racist rancher is a big massive issue, we will see how much you fucktards care about this next month. By then you will move onto the next insipid outrage of the day.
