Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

It’s possible to be a liberal firebrand without crapping on the party.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

In after Baud. Damn.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Just got back home from running some errands. I was channel surfing on the radio and landed on an earnest interviewer asking a newspaper writer about how she maintains balance in her reporting.

After a very vague beginning, the writer’s answer veered into complaint. She wished she could have written humor, like Nora Ephron did, but there are always so many serious topics to discuss: impeachment, that misbegotten war…

And who was this reporter — Maureen Dowd!

All this time I thought she thought she *was* writing humor, or at least a humorous take on things.

Hear that thump, thump? It’s Nora, turning over in her grave. She might have been snarky but she was always judicious and serious.

P.S. the show was Diane Rehm, the interviewer was a sub. Not that Ms. Rehm ever does any better…

How many mailing lists did I just get added to, though? That’s a lot of campaigns.

Timely, from Nate Silver on twitter:

538’s U.S. Senate forecast just went live! Democrats are a narrow favorite: 2016 Senate Forecast | FiveThirtyEight

538 has these same five senate races as the closest, and most likely to decide control of the chamber.
