Now that we know what you look like, it’s only a matter of time before one of the elite hackers here uses darkweb AI facial recognition drones to figure out your real name, Mayhew.
zhena gogolia
Ooh, you’re both awful cute.
JPL
She is so cute.
NotMax
Honey, I shrunk the keg!
jl
Getting the kid started on chugging beer upside down? The Duke influence I guess.
Edit: Thnx for cute pic.

There were many times where I should have used a sippy cup when drinking from a keg.

Made me smile, always welcome.
Not as much as my granddaughter makes me smile, but I’ll take it.
You can really enjoy the hell out of your kids if you let yourself do it. Leads to better kids AND better adults, too.
p.a.
Cute. It’s hard to find those nipple adapters for the hose.
Iowa Old Lady
Wait. Are you feeding her into machinery there?
SiubhanDuinne
She is adorable, RickyDave.
MomSense
Just wait until she gets older and brings the beer to your house. That’s when it gets really fun.

An incipient Wisconsinite! (Or is it sippy Wisconsinite?)

@Iowa Old Lady: I thought he was feeding her into an ice cream maker before I read the words that went with the story.

A proud papa and his cutie! Enjoy being a father; it’s the best.

Since this is an open thread, I’m going to exercise my prerogative to be a downer. Chuck Todd tells me 68% of Republicans agree with DJT’s remarks on Charlottesville. As a Jew, what I take from this is that a substantial portion of U.S. citizenry is relatively untroubled by people who would prefer me and my little girls to be dead. For the first time in my life, I have just a hint of a sliver of understanding of what proto-fascist Bibi Netanyahu is talking about when he says Jews have only one home. (And I know Jews are relatively privileged in this country compared to a number of other folks. But still.)

Sweet photo. Looks like a fun family.

On Twitter, folks are sharing their favorite public statues.
I’ve always been a fan of the statue at Shibuya Station of Hachikō, the dog who waited.

@Betty Cracker:
Something that I, and my son in law, had to learn. If you’re a first time father, and you’re not scared shitless of screwing it up, you have no soul. Fortunately for both of us, we married child speakers.

Not quite the ice bucket challenge they had in mind.

@Rob: So true.

@Major Major Major Major: I see they included Winged Victory in Philly’s 30th Street Station, which I see frequently as I’m in that station several times a week.
I didn’t see another of my favorites, from Princeton, NJ, a guy sitting on the curb reading a book and eating a sandwich. Once while waiting for my wife I positioned myself a few feet from him in an identical pose. It was meant to be a private joke but before she showed up I looked up and realized I’d become a tourist attraction, as a number of people were snapping pics.
Edit to Add: hard to link from the phone, but it’s called “Out to Lunch” by Seward Johnson and is in Palmer Square

Ahh, teaching your daughter how to be a good college student and do a keg stand. What a guy!

Very cute!

Yawn. Call me when she’s shotgunning a six-pack in under 30 seconds.
Be that as it may: beautiful kid! Thanks for the photo!!

@Ceci n est pas mon nym:
The entire installation at Vigelund Park in Oslo,Norway is my favorite. It would be so difficult to choose one of the statues.
japa21
First, great pic.
Second, since this is an open thread, Trump is not going to be happy with magazine covers coming out:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/striking-economist-time-covers-criticize-trumps-charlottesville-response-130315344.html
ETA: I have been around since Truman, and I don’t think I remember any President being savaged by the media as this one is, not even Nixon. Would have been nice if they had done some of it before the election.
Ceci n est pas mon nym
@MomSense: I don’t know if it’s still there, but years ago there was one I loved at Hains Point in Washington DC, called “The Awakening”. It was a giant apparently emerging from the ground, a hand over here, a knee there, his face up there…
It always had kids climbing on it, which I think was the point.
Major Major Major Major
@japa21: Does Trump really care what the Economist writes about him, though?
MomSense
@Ceci n est pas mon nym:
Oh right. I remember that one. He had a sort of nest of a head and beard and big hands poking through the ground.
The obelisk at Vigeland Park is mind blowing. From a distance you see a sort of textured obelisk but when you get closer to it you realize it’s all carved bodies.
obelisk
Now that I think of it, one of my favorite statues at the park is the one of the toddler having a tantrum. I had a toddler in tow the first time I saw it and it was a perfect depiction of the real thing.

Decided to make a pinhole projector for the solar eclipse. Easy enough to do. I’ll make a little art project out of it. 80% totality so should be worth it.

@Major Major Major Major: Does he care? I think he does. Will he let people know it bothers him? No.

@Major Major Major Major: He does like to collect Time covers.

Cute! I like the person peeking around from behind you just to make sure babygirl is okay. Is that Mrs. Mayhew?
debbie
@? ?? Goku (aka The Hope of the Universe) ? ?:
Easier to just watch it reflected off a car windshield.
SFAW
@Major Major Major Major:
Only if he were functionally literate enough to understand what they wrote.
In other words: No.
Major Major Major Major
@debbie: Hey now, he wants to make it an art project!
David Anderson
@Yarrow: Mrs. Mayhew took the picture. The woman peeking around is the party host/instigator of good ideas.
@kindness: it is a parent’s responsibility to get their kids prepared for life and have embarrassing pictures available
debbie
@Major Major Major Major:
My apologies. The less work, the better, say I.
? ?? Goku (aka The Hope of the Universe) ? ?
@debbie:
I wanted to get glasses, but I waited too long. That would have involved a lot less work and I would have actually got to look at the eclipse. But whatever. I was pretty upset at first when everything was sold out.
debbie
@? ?? Goku (aka The Hope of the Universe) ? ?:
But you can see it by looking at the windshield. The sun (and encroaching moon) will be reflected off it.

We have a classic family photo of my toddler nephew trying to drink out of a (empty, rinsed) beer bottle that he pulled out of the recycling bin.

@debbie:
Is that safe?

Adorable baby and her rather nice looking Daddy. So as to put you a ease I’m probably older than your Mom and today is my 48th Wedding anniversary. Remember clearly what the weather was like 48 years ago, It was very hot, and the air was heavy and still,even though we were a couple hundred miles inland from the Atlantic. This was the day Camille made landfall in Mississippi. As we were headed to the mountains, that made no impression at the time..

@David Anderson:
Mine got it half right. They had a cocktail party when I was 3 and someone found me drinking out of the glasses that people set down. Mom said I was positively drunk. Every since then when I drank I had wiskey. Beer if forced, wine only on occasions. Of course they were too busy to take pictures.
Alas tis no more. My drinking days are over.
debbie
@? ?? Goku (aka The Hope of the Universe) ? ?:
That’s what I did for an eclipse in NYC and I’m not blind now, but Googling I found this. So it’s back to the pinhole for you!

@SiubhanDuinne: OMG! “RickyDave” perfect.
WaterGirl
What a doll! The little girl is adorable, also.

What? No IC Lite in N.C.?

@Ceci n est pas mon nym: They’ve moved it but it’s still in the DC area, perhaps at the new casino?

@japa21:
But he will let people know it bothers him, precisely by insisting very loudly that it does not.
Amir Khalid
@schrodingers_cat:
He will even put fake TIME magazine covers with his face on display at his hotels.
Yarrow
@David Anderson: LOL. Sounds like you’ve got quite a team there.

Cute picture! She’ll be embarrassed at 16, and then be sharing it voluntarily when she’s in her twenties!
