Remember this little thing? She turns one year old tomorrow. Her current mood: “Where are my treats!”
She is a sweet, rambunctious, awesome little girl. Well, as little as she can be at 105 lbs and almost as tall as Bixby.
Update on the CBD oil (and thanks to everyone for the input). I started Bixby and Emma on it earlier this week and the results have been dramatic. I hope it continues to work for both of them. I feel like I have my old Bixby back.
What’s up with you?

ETA: Pictures of Gabe here. He’s settling in and more of his personality is beginning to show. He and Bixby are so freakin’ cute together, I have to get photos of them. I think Gabe thinks Bixby is his spirit animal. LOL

I will try my best to get a photo of Scout in her scarf with the bear tomorrow. It gets more and more difficult as she gets bigger.

I love puppies, but I’m currently staying with a friend who brought home a ten week old puppy just two days before I got here and while she’s adorable and wriggly and sweet, she hasn’t accepted the concept of being crated overnight.
So she does’t bark or even howl, she screams. She screams until she falls asleep from exhastion from screaming, then she wakes up and screams some more.
I put a fan on to help drown out the screaming, but tonight might warrant earplugs. I’m not used to that. I leave on Monday and I hope for my friends’ sake that the puppy adjusts soon.

This bit in your blog has me sniffling:
TaMara (HFG)
@donnah: I actually didn’t crate Bixby or Scout at night. They slept with me so I could handle their nighttime potty breaks (it was every two hours the first week). So, I’m no help there. Both of them expressed great displeasure when crated that first week or two as pups. I can’t imagine it while trying to sleep. My sympathies.
TaMara (HFG)
@Mary G: I think I have cried more about Jake being gone since Gabe showed up. Just gentle reminders in many things Gabe does. It’s spooky sometimes.

Those dogs are amazing. My 3 month old lab, Yogi, saw snow for the first time today. Snow flavored leaves, pinecones, sticks, and grass to stuff in his mouth. Hurray.

Scout and my cat, Mocha, are on the same wavelength in terms of treats.

@TaMara (HFG):Thank you so much for sharing pics and stories of your four-leggers…it is a balm to the soul. So sorry for your loss of Jake, and so wonderful that you gave Gabe a sweet home!

Here’s what I did the second half of the dough I made the other night.

Okay, someone has to put the ducks to bed and since everyone is snoring on my couch, looks like it’s me again. LOL. Night all.

Aww…so cute. That little puppy foot in the top pic is adorable. Look how big she is now. Glad the CBD oil is working for Bixby. Are you using actual oil or some kind of dog treat with it or what?

@TaMara (HFG):
When I first got Bud, the rescue cocker, I purchased a crate. Put the crate in the van, Bud jumped in the van, walked right in the crate. Once I couldn’t find him and finally went to where his crate was and he was in there fast asleep. Otherwise he was always within sight of me. I think that what I’ve heard is true, most of them think it’s their safe place. OTOH I’d imagine that a crate big enough for a Dane is about the size of a room, and that’s about how much area they need to sprawl out.

@Yarrow: Actual full spectrum oil. As recommended by the woman who makes it (she has a hemp farm), we started with about 1/2 dose each day and I’ve been working my way up to a 10 mg dose for him (since he’s 180 lbs). Emma just gets 3 drops twice a day. Dramatic for her – there were areas on her body she couldn’t groom because of pain and yesterday when I went to brush her, all her knots and tangles were gone in those areas. She was able to groom herself completely.

Can I ask you a question?

@TaMara (HFG): is the cbd oil a local product or can you get it mail order? My daughter’s yorkie is having skin allergy problems and nothing works for more than a couple of months. CBD is the only thing we haven’t tried.

My wife sang in a recital tonight. One of the pieces they sang was Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs. One of those takes its words from a George Herbert poem in which Love tells the speaker, “You must sit down and taste my meat.” And she told me that never once in any of the rehearsals did anybody laugh at that line. Not even once. And that’s just wrong.

@TaMara (HFG): Wow that’s amazing! Glad it’s working for them.

@donnah: We had a Scottish Terrier that we got as a pup and he would scream and scream until I woke up and let him out of his crate. I never knew a dog could scream.

Just returned from a musical performed at my kid’s high school. The book, songs and lyrics all written by two of her classmates, they’re 16 and 15. Cast of fifteen, two acts, couple dozen scenes each with a set change, dozen and a half songs, choreography, three-piece ensemble, and the performers sparkled. Blown away doesn’t begin to describe my reaction.
The kids are alright. Can we just put them in charge?

Heh. Professionals, the lot. Where’s the fun in that?

TaMara — be careful. It’s just a matter of time before all your critters will be heroin addicts. Such is the power of the “gateway drug.” Thanks to J. Beauregard Sessions for the scientific research.
Gabe has a perfect feline head and face.

PUPPERS!!! KITTEHS!!! Ahh such a welcome respite after the insanity of the last few days.

TaMara, I adore your menagerie, and your stories about them. Gabe must be an Old Soul, with Jake whispering in his ear from the bardo and Bixby following him around like an acolyte. So sweet!
spudgun
Aww, I’m totally enamored of Gabe – I love his sweet little face! Glad to see the critter nation coming together.
Thanks for the photos, TaMara!

@CaseyL:
What’s that old story, you keep getting resurrected so many times, and your wisdom is a product of each time. Every so often you find someone who must be on one of the later journeys and while people usually don’t get it, animals do, because their wisdom is in the way they act, they don’t have words to get in the way.

I was supposed to go to a cool write-in at the Getty museum tomorrow, but it got canceled because of the fires. Sigh. It’s probably for the best, because my pleuritis/cold is still lingering and I should probably rest up tomorrow, and I have two write-ins I can go to on Sunday.
I may try to swing by the new Daiso store in Thai Town — the drive might not even be too terrible from where I’m located. We shall see.

@??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??:
It requires an answer first.
Have you started or gotten an appointment for counseling?
??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??
@Ruckus:
I’m going to level with you. I haven’t. I was only deeply upset for a small amount of time that Saturday night and a few days afterwards. I got over it. I was afraid the reputation and relationships (as much as one can have relationships on a blog like this) had been irreparably destroyed. I flipped out in response because it felt like everything was falling apart and there was nothing I could do to stop it. But, it seems as if that’s not the case as many people have responded to my comments recently. I think I’ve learned my lesson on being an annoyance and plan on being a better person to be around from now on.
It’s true I’m not as close to people IRL as I’d like to be and perhaps I’ll still talk to a professional about that among other things, but I’m in no rush at the moment. Right now, I’m taking one day at a time and focusing on school. I have friends at school that care about me and so do my parents. I just need to open up more and relax.
Anyway, thank you so much for asking me about that! I appreciate that you care enough to do so.

@Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et al.): oh, curse you sir – now I will never *not* be able to rhink of that line without laughing! And that, as you say, is just wrong.

@sukabi: Hopefully you’ll come back and see it. She does ship. I really like her, one of my clients researched CBD oil for his coffee shop and I trusted his judgment and went to her myself.
Here’s her website. https://lichenlivin.com/products/

@zhena gogolia: I hear ya. Gabe is definitely balm for the soul, and somehow that warm fuzzy body sleeping curled up around my legs like Jake did, gives me room to grieve.
sukabi
@TaMara (HFG): thank you.?
kent
How do you get a dog to take CBD oil?
TaMara (HFG)
@kent: I put it in a bit of food, mixed with something Bixby really loves – peanut butter, pumpkin, etc. Emma is trickier – because cats won’t be fooled by food. I have a syringe (no needle) that I’ve used to administer meds – I mix the drops with a bit of water and give it to her that way. I’m the queen of pilling cats, so I’m getting there with the syringe. Takes a bit of skill and trust. You can just rub it on their skin (under the fur) and get good results for pain.

i couldn’t post a timely reply because the site went on the fritz, but here goes:
Judging from your posts here, these mood swings are a regular occurrence for you. The advice to go get counselling comes from jackals who wish you well and know what they’re talking about. It’s up to you whether you want to follow that advice, of course. But blowing it off, saying that you’re all better now and don’t really need counselling, sounds a bit like saying you don’t need to fix the leaky roof today because it’s not raining right now.
I really hope you read this.

@Amir Khalid: Wise advice, Amir.
