Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

People are weird.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Not all heroes wear capes.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Everybody saw this coming.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Here’s a really interesting Senate race that’s ranked in the top ten of competitive Senate races but is flying under the radar a bit, partly because the primary was late: the Alaska senate race where Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan faces a strong Democratic challenger in Al Gross. Let’s raise some money for Gross:

Will do. Thanks, Doug. What did Balloon Juice raise for the 2018 cycle? I remember being blown away by the amount!

What are the top 10 most competitive races?  Anybody have a good link?  After a long weekend/mini-vacation I wanna get back to writing postcards next week and would really like to put my energy towards the Senate.

Remember: Alaska is a cheap market. Dollars go a long way here. And if we get the tribes plus the scattered liberals in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, that might be enough. I want as many as we can get.

@realbtl:   I am so pulling for Bullock and Williams here. Let’s hope Bullock has sufficient coattails for both Williams and Cooney. Although I hope Gianforte gets dragged for the carpetbagger that he is.

As of this moment, PostcardsToVoters.org is writing postcards in support of Independent Alyse Galvin, who is running for Alaska’s only House seat. She is Independent but will caucus with Democrats.  My understanding is that Postcards To Voters gets addresses of registered Democrats and/or those who voted in Dem primaries, so by writing to support Ms. Galvin, the Democratic turnout should be increased, which should benefit Al Gross.  More info and sign-up contact at the link above.

Kinda skeptical about our chances in Alaska – lost Begich in 2014, and lost the independent governor in the last election.

@Yutsano: Apparently you’re the only one on this blog besides me who even knows about Williams. I’ve repeatedly pointed out that she’s competitive & that her winning would flip the MT House delegation (of 1) from red to blue, which in some bizarre possibilities we might find useful if not vital. The response? Crickets. In particular from Doogie J Blegmeister.

By way of correction, Al Gross is an independent. The Democratic Party doesn’t have anyone in the race. Don’t know whether he’s promised to caucus with the Democrats if elected, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he caucuses with the Republicans.

    @Lukeness: dralgrossak.com/2020/08/23/msnbc-senate-races-tighten-in-republican-led-alaska-and-north-carolina/

Dr. Al Gross, an Independent running as a Democrat in Alaska, …

Gross’s web page talks about him being strongly pro-choice and protecting reproductive rights.

    FWIW.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

I chipped in. I have granddaughters (altho not in Alaska) so reproductive choice is a big plus for me.
