Tuesday in the UK we had 2472 new cases. This is down by just under 900 from Monday’s figure and a decrease of 15.3% in the rolling 7-day average. The percentage decrease is getting smaller every day, not sure what, if anything, that signifies. New cases by nation,
England – 2070 (down @1000)
Northern Ireland – 112 (up 15)
Scotland – 221 (up 22)
Wales – 69 (19).
Deaths – There were 23 deaths within 28 days of a positive test yesterday. This is an INCREASE of 13.7% in the rolling 7-day average. Deaths by nation, England – 18, Scotland – 3, Wales – 2 and Northern Ireland – 0. During the week ending 2 April there were 450 deaths where COVID was mentioned as a cause of death on the Death Certificate.
Testing – On Monday, 12 April, 874,399 tests were conducted. this is an increase of 7.7% in the rolling 7-day average. The estimated PCR testing capacity reported by labs on this date was 650,245.
Hospitalisations – On Sunday, 11 April 2537 people were in hospital. On Monday, 12th 377 people were on ventilators. The rolling 7-day average for hospital admissions as of 7 April was down 19.7%.
Vaccinations – As of 12 April, a total of 32,250,481 people had received 1 shot of a vaccine and 7,857,396 had had both. This means that 61.2% of the UK adult population had received 1 dose and 14.9% were fully vaccinated.

How things go in the red states: one of the asshole mask refusenik MAGA hats at the market is rumored to be out with covid (he may live in MI, most of the farmers do). He’s in his mid to late 70s and an avid “plandemic” believer, worked in the office and basically had contact with every vendor and a lot of customers. Right wing jeebus will protect him, it’s nature’s way to “cull the herd”.
I don’t want the guy to die, but I hope he’s severely ill enough to get a good scare. And of course, no one notified us we had been exposed.

Monroe County, NY stats:
New cases = 197
Confirmed active cases = 3340.
3.2% test positivity now. Deaths at 1211 now
42.4% of Monroe County has had at least 1 vaccine dose.
29.4% are totally vaccinated.
I’m now one of the 29.4% that’s totally vaccinated. The Funky Cold Moderna knocked me on my keister last night; I’m hoping to recover by tomorrow because I have a lot to do at work.

My county of Greene has hit all of their goals to move into the “yellow” phase of their COVID plan, which is scheduled to happen on Friday. The 7-day average of cases is 18, there are 31 COVID patients in our county hospitals (they may not be from Greene County, either, because we serve all of the surrounding counties), and 25.6% of eligible adults are fully vaccinated. That means the mask mandate stays, but most capacity limitations are removed for venues below 500 people. I figure we won’t meet the “green” phase goals until sometime this summer – the 7-day average has to be below 20 cases, fewer than 20 people in the hospital with COVID, and 50% of the eligible population vaccinated. That last one will be the hardest goal to reach, I think.
The not-so-good news – Branson is removing their mask mandate this Friday “just because it’s time”. More like “it’s time for the tourists to come, and we don’t want to make them wear face masks”. They are “encouraging” businesses to “encourage” people to wear face masks, but we all know how that will work – no one will do it because there’s no rule that says they have to. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
