Another day, another group of right wing assholes supporting the troops in a way only they can:
Tonight members of the 1776 Restoration Movement doubled down on their efforts to spam the veteran's suicide hotline.
— Zachary Petrizzo (@ZTPetrizzo) September 20, 2022
As someone who knows several vets who have killed themselves, this makes my fucking blood boil.
cain
But hey it’s the Democratic folks that need tone policing while gop minions flood a valuable line to help that troops that are in dire mental straits.
trollhattan
Wait, what? Nice work, assholes. Goddamn.
Fake Irishman
As a VA researcher, I’ll second John’s comment and request unanimous consent that they represent the sense of the jackaltariate.
Chacal Charles Calthrop
This is truly terrible but did you have to bigfoot Ruemara?
BruceFromOhio
Anything that makes people mad at them is ‘winning.’
Meyerman
Sorry, John. The sadness and anger you must be feeling. These people should be fired into the sun.
Sasha
And any vet who dies because of this stunt ultimately has Trump to thank for it.
Sister Golden Bear
Meanwhile the cultists are making numerous threat against the Texas sheriff investigating DeSantis’ human trafficking photo op.

Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
Parfigliano
Every “journalist” should be asking DeSantis 24/7 if he condones threatening law enforcement…will he tell them to stop
prostratedragon
As to the subject, these folks are ever lower, like their special master, but this stunt is a BIG step down. Don’t know what we do with so many such in our society.
ruemara
These people are such scum.
moops
They intend to murder us.
these are just the pranks they are temporarily satisfied with while they build up the nerve and egg each other further along.
CaseyL
This is awful. These people are complete wastes of the air they breathe.
Any chance they can be tracked down and prosecuted?
Lyrebird
@Fake Irishman: Thirded! or agreed!
Here I had thought the GWB administration was the bottom, sending people off to war and also reducing the death benefit their families could get.
This is much worse.
Uncle Jeffy
F*ing reptiles. I can’t think of a truly adequate punishment but burying them alive might come close…
JWR
@Sister Golden Bear: And NBC Nightly News, “helpfully”, and before getting to the possible crimes the sheriff was investigating, pointed out that he was a Democrat. ; (
Grumpy Old Railroader
I mourn that American citizens could show such disdain and contempt in the name of Patriotism
dmsilev
I’m probably going to regret asking this, but why? What fever-dream hallucinations led to attacking a VA suicide-prevention hotline of all things?
Fake Irishman
Here’s two pieces of good news:
1. The senate has approved six Biden circuit court nominees in the last two weeks. He’s up to 24 confirmed, far more than Obama or Clinton at this time and closing in on Trump’s 30 for his first two years in office. There’s a real chance they will meet or pass that mark.
2. Tomorrow, the senate is going to ratify an important treaty that will limit global warming. (Not Paris, but the Kigali protocols regarding HFCs). Schumer has the votes (about 20 GOPers are onboard). Better yet, last year Congress passed a bill regulating HFCs that will actually fulfill the terms of the treaty.
Gvg
Why? I mean, what “reason” are they claiming?
I am so used to their nonsense, that it took me awhile to even wonder. They are always doing something mean and stupid but I missed some “plot” here.
Maybe it’s too stupid to follow.
Peale
I guess I’ll bite. Is there any reason why they chose this? Like some 1/6 felon was a vet who tried to commit suicide? Not that it matters and not that they need a martyr. They are martyred just by someone pointing at them and laughing.
prostratedragon
@JWR: Very cute, they are.
There is enough in this country’s own internal history to caution us about where this shit might lead, but the point really gets hammered home in The US and the Holocaust, running this week on PBS. These people we have here are definitely of a sort with those there.
Leslie
I can’t even find words for how disgusting this is.
HumboldtBlue
I just watched the first 20 minutes or so of Bridget Jones’ Diary, and now I’m angry. I want those precious minutes back.

Trump facilitated the so-called “1776 Project” which was basically a white supremacist manifesto.

Ah so this explains it.

New right-wing conspiracy: Jan. 6 officer suicides appear “suspicious”
gratuitous
EVERY Republican running for office should be asked about this, no exceptions and no dissembling. Anything but a full-throated denouncement means the candidate supports this.
piratedan
@Peale: yeah, but you know what’s really suspicious is that the then outgoing President supposedly incited a couple thousand worked up goons to attack the Capitol based on a lie… I mean, I heard that they had video and everything, whoddathunkit?
same fucking playbook on every damn thing that shows them in the harsh light of reality, nibble at the fringes, try and work the margins and the refs, looking for anything to drive a chisel into the blatant reality of their crimes.
Geoduck
@JWR: If a political position is officially partisan, then the news should always say which party the current occupant supports.
Ohio Mom
They show themselves to be hateful and vicious but also beyond stupid. This is a completely incoherent protest.
Black people fed up with segregation, protested by sitting at whites-only lunch counters. Young men protesting the Viet Nam war burned their draft cards. By this logic, the forced birthers screaming at patients entering abortion clinics also makes sense, even as it is/was also vicious and hateful.
Where is the line from jamming the suicide prevention hotline to expressing their anger about the jailing of January 6th protesters? They couldn’t think of a way to direct their protest at the prosecutors and judges? They can’t do anything right.
JWR
@prostratedragon:
Damn straight, and thanks for reminding me of the new Ken Burns series. I turned it on last week(?) during the mass book burnings, and it had me thinking what you just wrote in the above blockquote.
NotMax
Oh my.
What’s their motto? “Crispus Attucks had it coming?”
efgoldman ’em.
HumboldtBlue
@dmsilev: @Gvg: @Peale:
They are doing it ostensibly because those arrested on Jan. 6 for being criminal insurrectionists and who remain in custody are being tortured and abused in jail and therefore denying vets of a service they need is… umm… it’s a way to get back at the man!
Pay no attention to the fact they’re fucking with vets while campaigning for domestic terrorists.
prostratedragon
@JWR: I think all three parts are or will be available at PBS.org, for anytime viewing.

Changing the subject, I’m a bit surprised I haven’t heard more about L.A. County Sheriff Villanueva raiding L.A. County Supervisor Zelda Gilroy’s, er, Sheila Kuehl’s home. From earlier today:
I can just hear Dobie Gillis shouting “ZELDA!”
Mike in Pasadena
A friend at the AF Academy used a hunting rifle in his dorm room. His father was an AF general and had told him, “you quit, don’t come home.” His roommate discovered him. Messed the roommate up for a long while. My classmate could have used a suicide prevention line since he didn’t talk to any of us. Might have helped.

As a vet, hell, as a human being, I am DISGUSTED. Analyze the comms traffic and hunt the bastards down. They can join their scumbucket buddies in the brig.

If you openly announce this kind of thing, isn’t that a crime? Is the veteran’s suicide line is a government-run service? Just imagine the hammer that would come down on you if you openly conspire to spam, say, the IRS’s phones.
lowtechcyclist
@Sister Golden Bear:
“Back the blue,” you betcha.
AlaskaReader
@Geoduck: A sheriff investigating verifiable crime is not a political position.
The ‘news’ affixing a political label to the sheriff is nothing more or less than a blatant attempt to inject bias and prejudice upon the consumers of said ‘news’.
It’s partisan hackery, nothing else, and the ‘news’ displays a real and tangible disrespect towards journalistic ethic and a lack of regard for their own integrity.
Ned F
Somewhere out there is a group planning to ban or rewrite the Ken Burns’ documentary. They couldn’t handle a comic book for god’s sake.
On another note, the nearest airport to Rehobeth beach in Delaware, where the migrants would have to be flown into, is in Columbia DE. That’s Sussex county and is big time Trumpy country. Not sure how well that would go over.
JWR
@AlaskaReader: Very well put, IMHO (which, again IMHO, don’t mean sh*t. /s) But thank you. ; )

Idly scanning the on demand offerings from TCM via Sling, the font on the poster in the little box for The Public Enemy is kind of funky, and so squished it looks like it reads The Punk Enemy.

@Grumpy Old Railroader:
It’s hard to know what they are patriotic about.
In 1776 there were just 13 relatively primitive and disparate British colonies fomenting violent rebellion against the legitimate authority of the British Crown and Parliament (some fomenting more than others – not everybody was on board the rebellion train in 1776). There was no cohesive plan for union and no cohesive plan for government and, frankly, the colonies didn’t much like each other – loyalty was to the colony that one called home.
If the 1776ers were “patriots” and loyal to the United States of America and the US Constitution they should have adopted the year 1788.
Boris Rasputin (the evil twin)
@mrmoshpotato: I think the “1776 Project” is a fancy term for “A John Wayne film festival.”

I’m going to fucking snap, as posted in another thread my friend, a fellow vet took his life. I’m fucking sick of this.
Ruckus
As a vet who gets my healthcare from the VA and sees men my fathers age down to men in their early 20s with limbs missing, mental issues, normal human stuff and understands that the VA isn’t perfect, it is a damn major sight better than nothing and much of non VA healthcare, especially when it concerns it’s specialty – vets and their often rather specific issues.
These assholes care about no actual human beings. They care about their bullshit first and only. And it is bullshit. They will fuck over anyone and anything because they are toddlers, assholes in full sized bodies with minds they found in the gutter or in the dumpster outside a McDs. They are far less than human, they want to be world leaders because they want to live in a world where they shine and that’s impossible in a world filled with actual human beings. Today’s rethuglicans are worse than yesterday’s rethuglicans. What do they think a world filled with only them would be like? They would hate that a lot more than the world they hate now, because it would show them how absolutely fucked up they really are. It would, as it always does, take away their rights and power and give it to someone like SFB or death santis, people who are barely human and only the worst parts, those that want to fuck over everyone but themselves because otherwise they are the bottom dwelling scum that gets scraped off of boats and fucking over everyone else is their only concept of living.
Ruckus
@Ohio Mom:
“They can’t do anything right.”
It seems that it would be rather difficult to do anything realistic or proper when what you want is full on crap, but one also has to consider the source and their entire political rational. Which seems to be “We got nothing, so let’s fuck over everyone else because that will make us best.” It’s irrational, it’s unrealistic, it’s harmful, it’s hateful, it’s ignorant, it suits them to a T.

My friend took his life within this 24 hour time period because of this shit. I’m fucking pissed. To deal with that and now see this, and I was a Naval NCO, private contractor. USAID, and STATE contractor. This shit sets my blood on fire.
We bleed for you. And to be blunt, a lot of shit goes down that you don’t want to know. Much of it is good, I dealt with maternal and infant mortality as a contractor, but people don’t care about it. Field medic and data analytics.
Denial of medical care is insane. Spamming the suicide hotline is nuts. You want a coup? This is how you get one and they won’t like it. Cause when you anger the people you aren’t caring for that are trained you get rocked.
Ruckus
@NotMax:
I was never served SOS, not once in my time in. On occasion we did get worse, and almost once had a literal mutiny over an extremely crappy dinner. Lifers were discussing breaking into the gun locker and taking over the ship. Even I was stunned by that. But no SOS.
Ruckus
@Yutsano:
The military can do that to a lot of people. It can be a really, really shitty ride. I had a not all that bad tour, many are treated far worse and many are just not able to see a way through. It can be degrading, it can seem like no one gives one crap about you living or dying, One of my 2 different boot camp commanders would absolutely pick on the weakest kid in the company. Mercilessly. It got me about as close as I’ve ever been to just physically attacking someone for every second of his bullshit and beating him senseless. Or dead.
This was over 50 yrs ago, I remember it like it was 5 minutes ago. I have never been as pissed off at any human as I was at that supposed leader.

Shit On a Shingle (for those not in the know) is phased out. Though you can still buy it at the NEX on any base. I also happen to like it. Though I’ll also throw down with cheap tomato soup and grilled white wonder bread with american grilled cheese and fuck my heart issues!
We had rather good food. Breakfast was always order your own eggs with whatever in it (it’s not an omllette quit saying it is) with steak and lobster or crabs for dinner. Go Navy I guess, when we moved to the green team we got MRE which, well those suck. But we always got back to the carrier and ate like kings.
Navy food is pretty good. You’re talking custom eggs and french toast breakfast, lunch is a mess but it’s good, and then tbone steak and crab dinner. Granted it’s over cooked to hell and back and we all drown it it hot sauce but it’s not “bad”. The officers mess is better (we low levels eat in the ships galley) and if you think the officer get good eats hate to tell you, but check out the cheifs mess!
Also even if you are an officer do not go to the chiefs mess or their birthing. For those that didn’t serve a chief is an enlisted rank that wears an officers uniform. They are not to be fucked with. Cheifs run the Navy. Point blank. Even most admirals won’t screw with them. One of Trumps fuck ups in Yemmen was getting a Chief killed, and not realizing that admirals don’t run DEVGRU, chiefs do.
Mo MacArbie
“1776 Project” has been around for a while, or at least the name has. It’s the reaction to the 1619 Project, ’cause 1776 is more patrioter.

You’ll laugh but I was held down my teeth shattered as they extracted half of my face to get into SERE. They didn’t give me enough pain killers to get through it so I was fully aware of all of this as they extracted all four base teeth and then two more. The pain was mind blowing. Wisdom teeth. I needed morphine and to be knocked out but they would not.
At the end of it all I was drolling blood out of my face and they drove me back from NAS ocenana to DAMNNECK VA BEACH and put me back in school drooling blood all over the desk.
