This should be fun to watch:
A special grand jury that investigated election interference by former President Donald J. Trump and his allies in Georgia recommended indictments for multiple people on a range of charges in its final report, most of which remains sealed, the forewoman of the jury said on Tuesday.
“It is not a short list,” the forewoman, Emily Kohrs, said in an interview.
Ms. Kohrs, 30, declined to name the people recommended for indictment, since the judge handling the case decided to keep those details secret when he made public a few sections of the report last week. But seven sections that are still under wraps deal with indictment recommendations, Ms. Kohrs said.
Special grand juries in Georgia do not have indictment powers. Fani T. Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, Ga., has led the investigation and will decide what charges to bring before a regular grand jury.
I’m assuming there will be a bunch of state level names, but what big names do you think will be indicted?
WaterGirl
Donald J. Trump

Mark Meadows

John Eastman.

Rudi! Rudi! Rudi!

I am hoping for Lindsey Graham just because I think I’ll hear his indignant screams all the way out here in Oregon. If tRump gets indicted, it will be incredibly fun.
I realised today while listening to the latest Jack and Daily Beans podcasts that I follow this stuff closely on a daily basis, and there’s so much that I can’t keep track of it all anymore.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@StringOnAStick: me too. I can barely keep track of which charges relate to which jurisdiction and prosecutor
Dan B
Steve Bannon? Or did he leave to early?

The Atlantic has a brutal story on MTG. I hope it contributes to her downfall.

OT: Democrats held Virginia’s 4th Congressional district in today’s special election. Overwhelming margin, and an expected, but still sweet, victory.
Jennifer McClellan will replace the beloved Donald McEachin, who died shortly after the midterms.
Dorothy A. Winsor
These names are all excellent!
Elizabelle
Just had to see that again. Well done, Fulton County grand jury.
Gravenstone
Saw another comment from her implying that no one would be surprised about who was named. So yeah, all the high profile fuckwits, hopefully to include the Fuckwit in Chief himself.
StringOnAStick
I wonder when we’ll actually see the list of recommendations, or if the next thing we’ll see will be real live indictments?
The host of the Daily Beans podcast (Allison Gill; cohosts the Jack podcast with Andrew McCabe) said today that she expects this to be a week packed with news. I think she meant more than just this piece of the puzzle too.
TaMara
@Dan B: Can someone explain to me why Bannon is still not in jail? Wasn’t he convicted of something, again?
WaterGirl
I really want to know which people they think committed perjury. I want those people nailed to the wall. Hell, I want all of them nailed to the wall, but any elected officials and anyone in government should get extra nails.
Jackie
@WaterGirl: Trump, Meadows, Rudy, Eastman, Clark, Powell, Ellis… just for beginners. Did Flynn get subpoenaed?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@TaMara: he was pardoned before the case went to the jury, as I recall. One of trump’s last acts
Jackie
@TaMara: Bannon hasn’t started his jail time YET. He’s throwing out Hail Marys, but the timer’s running out.
Jackie
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: He’s been charged guilty for refusing to appear to the J6 Committee, and will serve time for that. TFG’s pardon doesn’t apply to this.
TaMara
@Jackie: Well, it can’t go ding-ding-ding soon enough for me. Saw an article today that, in the great Trump fashion, his lawyers are suing him for payment. 🙄
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Jackie: I actually forgot about that! my god, so many cases, so many prosecutors….
also, much as I hate generational buzzwords, here’s one for the Boomers
WaterGirl
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: No, that’s the previous conviction! Do try to keep up. :-)
(being silly, mocking them for all the charges, not you)

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
That’s pretty nifty. I wonder if the union will produce anything musically worth their twin legacies. Thank FSM that Jagger never went the route of Rod Stewart, churning out old standards.
WaterGirl
Okay, besides listing who will be indicted, I want to know who you guys think will be pursued with perjury charges.
There’s only one on this list that i think WOUDN’T commit perjury:
Trump, Meadows, Rudy, Eastman, Clark, Powell, Ellis
Elizabelle
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: I know.
Because no Charlie Watts. Will always miss him. Rest in jazz.

Alex Wagner MSNBC just opened her show with this topic even as we squeak.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Wowza! That’s crazy. Might be interesting.

Don’t like to be the wet blanket but I’m not sure if we can expect too much from all this.
If a poor person of color tries to vote in the wrong precinct our judicial system views it as an act of electoral terrorism. But a rich white dude in a suit making improper phone calls to public officials is going to be seen as a mere technicality, a breach of protocol. I expect a slap on the wrist and a 500 dollar fine.
And as usual I hope I’m wrong.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@West of the Rockies: My god, did you hear the talky grand juror gushing about shaking Rudi’s hand? And she’s never voted in her life.
Now listening to the former-prosecutor-du-soir: “Well, that’s your jury”. He doesn’t sound impressed. Michael Moore, not that one, I wonder if he’s the guy who said, wrt any trials and their jurors and the chances of conviction: It may be Fulton County, but it’s still Georgia.
West of the Rockies
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Yes, the jury forewoman was unfortunately giggly and less-than-somber. Didn’t look much over 25 though, and is a political neophyte, so such behavior, while not ideal, is hopefully not damaging.
dmsilev
I take my inspiration from those experts in British jurisprudence, Gilbert and Sullivan:
I’ve got a little list — I’ve got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground
And who never would be missed — who never would be missed!
[Chorus]
He’s got ’em on the list — he’s got ’em on the list;
And they’ll none of ’em be missed — they’ll none of ’em be missed
Matt McIrvin
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: So, they’re gonna recommend indictment of Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton?
Jackie
@West of the Rockies: Poor Former Guy was hoping (for once) Biden’s sneak into Kyiv would overshadow Georgia events for a few more days 😂
West of the Rockies
@Jackie:
I hope Trump is in misery and such existential (and intestinal) distress that it will appear in a future opera.
Ohio Mom
I’ll be happy if any of the recommended indictments are people I’ve heard of and not just little local fishes in a little local pond. I don’t dare to hope the list includes Trump.

@dmsilev: let the punishment fit the crime.
I’m just quoting here. Disbarment for Eastman would suffice for me. [I mean, just thinking about Eastman, not anyone else.]

@West of the Rockies:
No, Jagger went the route of fronting a Rolling Stones tribute band for the last 20 years. Much better decision.
David 🌈☘The Establishment☘🌈 Koch
Obviously, Andy Biggs

@West of the Rockies:
She’s 30, I think (if I heard Alex Wagner correctly).
I had to change the channel after she gushed over Giuliani. 🤢 And Wagner’s interviewing was awful.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
LOL. I’m just imagining Jagger doing Strangers In the Night. Jagger Salutes Sinatra.

Relatedly, TFG has spent (so far) $10 million of his PAC on attorney fees per Political Wire:
“Former President Donald Trump, who throughout his business career had a reputation for not paying lawyers, spent roughly $10 million from his political action committee on his own legal fees last year, federal election filings show,” the New York Times reports.
“The money that went to Mr. Trump’s legal bills was part of more than $16 million that Mr. Trump’s PAC, Save America, spent for legal-related payments in 2021 and 2022.”
“Some of the $16 million appears to have been for lawyers representing witnesses in investigations related to Mr. Trump’s efforts to cling to power. But the majority of it — about $10 million — went to firms directly representing Mr. Trump in a string of investigations and lawsuits, including some related to his company, the filings showed.”
Jackie
@Steeplejack: Hopefully Lawrence O’Donnell covers it. I have a hard time watching Alex Wagner. She’s no Rachel Maddow.
Steeplejack
@Steeplejack:
Okay, Lawrence O’Donnell is recapping the interview with the Georgia grand jury foreewoman, and the interviewer was not Alex Wagner. It was Blayne Alexander with the dismal interviewing.
Oh, jeez, now this person is gushing about how she wished Trump had been subpoenaed, because it would have been cool for her to swear him in. But she did say that it would probably have gummed up the process for a long time.

I’m ready to vote for Emily Kohrs for president in 2028.

@West of the Rockies:
Just not enough to cause him to keel over finally. My current dread is that he will kick the bucket before he’s quite conclusively disgraced, and they’ll feel duty bound to give the slimy old horror a state funeral.
NotoriousJRT
@Tony G: She makes me afraid and also confirms my jury duty experience. Her take on Trump’s call to Brad Raffensperger absolutely baffled me. She reminded me of a Q Anon Q Drops “analyst,” who just spent a year imbibing grand jury procedure as her Q Drops. But, then I have no respect for a 30 year old who has never voted and had no awareness of such an important event in the civic life of her state let alone her country. Sheesh.

@Jackie
The graphics used in the background during Wagner’s hour are positively vomit inducing.
MSNBC’s art department manages to crank out one dud after another That bottom of the screen red blotch on Maddow’s show, for example, has since day one made it look as if the Blob is oozing in to devour the set.
