Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

This blog will pay for itself.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Consistently wrong since 2002

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Is trump is trying to break black America over his knee? signs point to ‘yes’.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Be a wild strawberry.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Say Hello to Ellie

I’m not sure if people are stalking the Cole family and dumping their unwanted animals ahead of us on the road, or if we are some kind of idiot savant dog whisperers, but my brother found this little angel yesterday staggering around in the middle of the road. He stopped to see if she was ok, and just like Rosie did with me, she jumped in his car and refused to get out.

He took her to the vet and had her washed and checked up, and she is healthy, but super skinny. She’s probably the same size as Lily, but only weighed twelve pounds. At any rate, he is looking for a home for her, as he has a puppy and does not need another dog.

He says she is super happy and super sweet, loves sitting on his lap, is potty trained and leash trained, gets along with his other dog and cat, and does what we call the “Lily” dance when he feeds her. I’m just so glad he found her instead of me.

So Cute! If I didn’t have an anti-social cat and a no new dog rule by the co-op I would be seriously tempted.

What is it with the Cole brothers anyway? Dogs in need of rescue must see you coming a mile away.

OMG, she’s so cute. And if he has a puppy, he definitely needs another dog, especially a trained and well-behaved one. The easiest way to train a puppy is to let another dog do it for you.

She’s probably the same size as Lily, but only weighed twelve pounds.

Too translate for BJ regulars, that means she’s Lily’s height, but weigh’s ~0.4 Tunchs.

    She’s gorgeous!

So in other words your brother got conned by a stray as well and you’re laughing your ass off inside. In all seriousness though she is gawjuss. My brother just got a Weimareiner and gave him the unfortunate name of Shatton. My other brother and I both hate it, so we call him Shatner. Better to be named for the future Governour-General I say.

Ellie is a gorgeous, happy girl. I think she’s found her home, and she knows it. As you know, two dogs aren’t that much more work than one, and Boghan could use a friend.

@MattR: That would be hilarious, though. Two Ellies and a Matt. Great movie title.

I got home over the weekend but have not quite managed to unpack yet. Definitely glad I spent the time at the shore but also quite glad to be back in my apt with all my crap. And now I am remotivated to sell this place and move into a house with a yard and a deck.

I found a Viszla running around like that. We had a couple of really good months, going on walks, and trying new things. This dog had never been on a “real” walk. And for a Viszla, thats like being DEAD.
Viszlas are NOT for apartments, or for people that think a walk across the parking lot is exercise.
    Thats my RANT.
My little girl is 14.5 years old. Survived a rattlesnake bite, and getting run over. She like to just watch….sometimes. A Good Life.

@asiangrrlMN: Despite looking like a little old man, Pepper is my special needs girl. She exemplifies why so many older dogs end up in rescue – diabetes, blindness, and atypical Cushing’s. All of these diseases are treatable, but people get scared of the vet bills. The testing was hella expensive, but I’m hoping we’re out of the woods for now.

On the other hand, her partner in crime, Tramp, is now 6 and hasn’t lost his puppy smirk.

@asiangrrlMN: Don’t worry. I doubt it bothers Pepper to have her femininity called into question. After, all she enjoys a roll in deer poop, just as much as the next girl or boy.

I was just trying to emphasize, obviously in an unclear way, that the animals we have won’t always be the healthy, happy beings that they may start out as. Owning an animal is a lifetime commitment. Pepper is 9, which would be ancient for some breeds, but for her, is just late middle age. I owe her some more years.

Dog needs a one-pound t-bone, gently sauteed with love, and sides of “Who’s my good girl?” with scratchins, and “Where did the toy go? Where is it? Over here? No? OH! Here it is! Get it! Very good! Good girl!” (The higher pitch, the better).

Repeat as necessary, and she’ll gain the weight back in no time.

ETA: Throwing Balloon Juice in there really helps, I see. Happy sigh.

Some people who can no longer afford to feed their pets can’t stand the thought of taking them to a shelter where they’ll probably be euthanized. So instead, they dump them by the side of the road in a neighborhood that looks reasonably prosperous, hoping that some kind-hearted soul will find them, and take them in, before they get run over.

This is JG’s brother. I just wanted to clear up that Ellie (which is actually short or Luella–and yes, I know I am an idiot for naming her but damn it I am finding her another home) has not actually met the cats and as far as I can tell has no idea they even exist.

Oh, and I have no idea why someone would dump her. I can’t imagine anyone that wants a dog not wanting her. Other than vomiting the dead deer she was eating when I found her (right onto the front seat of my car–I figured she wanted to share the only thing she owned) she has not done a single obnoxious thing and is just a little sweetheart. She did growl at Boghan when she was on my lap, but I think that might just be a byproduct of her recent trauma. Anyway, it is beyond me how anyone could not want her. I am extremely tempted to keep her but I just need to pay more attention to Boghan than I would be able to with her as well.

There seem to be people lining up to take her. I need to jump on one of these before it is too late…

People that love dogs find them in the rain ,covered with fleas, and take them home and find homes for them. Or keep them.

People that don’t ,and are completely lacking in compassion, take them for vacations on the roof of their car.

The Coles do not lack compassion. I salute you.

OMG, she looks just like a dog I had several years ago (he passed at 14), except smaller. My dog was black, but the same kind of hair, face, proportion of legs to body. He was whisper thin till he was middle aged and only gained weight because I took in another stray. He had to eat for two then. When the stray passed away after a few years (he stroked out – no one could tell how old he was), Jasper lost all the weight and went back to his former profile.
If I didn’t live in KC, I’d love to have her. I hope you find a great home for her.
