Today in Palin news:
Sarah Palin is launching a nationwide bus tour starting Sunday in Washington, a Palin source has confirmed to POLITICO.
The first stop will be at the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally. Palin will then travel up the East Coast in a trip that will include her first stop in New Hampshire since running as the GOP’s vice presidential nominee in 2008.
Palin will also be stopping at other spots of symbolic national significance on the East Coast, including the Civil War battlefields at Gettysburg and Antietam, and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
Palin’s camp intends to post more information on the trip on the recently revamped website for her political action committee. There were few details on the SarahPAC site following the announcement.
“Starting this weekend, Sarah Palin will embark on a One Nation Tour of historical sites that were key to the formation, survival, and growth of the United States of America,” a statement on the site reads. “The tour will originate in Washington DC and will proceed north up the east coast. More information will follow.”
Someone should tell her that Lee had to retreat after Antietam and Gettysburg was the turning point of the war, because stopping there is probably going to piss off her base. At any rate, it appears that the abominable snowbilly will be coming soon to a neighborhood near you on her One Nation Under a Grievance tour. I wonder what this is all about:
A map showing Palin’s stops was blank when her website posted information on the tour. The site did, however, point her supporters to a donation page.
Oh. The devil must need some more Prada.

I hope someone follows her bus around to see if she’s actually doing a bus tour, or just driving it to the airport and getting on a private jet like she did for her “Going Rogue” book signing “bus tour.”

I think she’s doing what Newt is doing. Pretending to campaign so she can make money that she’s allowed to keep for her own personal use.

I ride the magic bus.

@gnomedad: A Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally is a “spot of symbolic national significance on the East Coast” on a par with Civil War battlefields and the Liberty Bell? Will she need to call Bachmann for directions to Lexington and Concord?

“Hope Gov. Palin makes it out here to the Rocky Mountain West, where pioneer women homesteaders blazed trails Mama Grizzly-style.”

Nah, she can see them from her first stop in New Hampshire.

You had me at the Rolling Thunder stop. I suspect there’s not going to be a whole lot of respect for the Quitta from Wasilla.

Thanks for dishonoring our national monuments for your personal profit. Asshole.

@cathyx: That is what I’m wondering. Is there a set amount she can keep for herself if she decides not to run?

@Mike in NC: I would love to see how walking the Freedom Trail in Boston would work out for her.

I’m hoping she goes for the AZ Senate seat John mentioned yesterday.
That would be some sweet fucking karma to have John McCain forced to spend his final years of public service babysitting Sarah Palin and grooming her to replace him as the senior Senator from Arizona.
Poopyman
@efgoldman: That would be so great to have on camera.

Laconia Motorcycle Week, June 11-18. It’s a family event, as long as you’ve got family eligible for Jeff Foxworthy’s ‘You Might Be A Redneck’ classics!
Seriously, no knock on bikers, New Hampsters, or people whose mothers-in-law genuinely admired their tattoos (spelt right ‘n everything!), but does anybody remember McCain offering to have Cindy compete in the 20008 Sturgis wet tshirt contest? Letterman’s staff is already downloading pics of previous Laconia rallys to photoshop…

So how long do we have to pay attention?

One of the benefits living next door to bumfuck, nowhere. Rolling Thunder are some of the assholes that participated in the John Kerry swiftboating, if I remember right. So Sarah is in with her kind of rotting American garbage.
In other news, the nations professional clowns are worried and forming their own union.
cathyx
@RoonieRoo: I have to remember where I read it, but candidates can keep the money they collect from their run for office and use it for their personal expenses. It was believed that that was why Newt was declaring a run for office in order to pay off his Tiffany’s bill.

@cathyx: Nope, they can not use donations to a political campaign for their personal use. Anything that is not used to pay a campaign bill must be donated to another political campaign.

Of the 25 members of Congress who have said they are stepping down, 18 have leadership PACs with a combined $850,000, according to CRP analysis.
“There’s a wide gap, if not a gulf, between what lawmakers can do with regular campaign money versus leadership PAC money,” said Dave Levinthal, communications director for the Washington, D.C.-based CRP. “The question comes up: What can politicians do with the leftover PAC money, and the answer is pretty much whatever they want.”

@General Stuck: Normally, I’d say that a benefit of living near San Francisco is that Republican politicians only visit when they want to raise money, then they quickly get the hell out with as few words said as possible. Sadly, I’m pretty sure Sarah Snowbilly _only_ wants to raise money, and am equally sure her idea of a ‘historic site’ would likely encompass all the shopping around Union Square…

The wingnuts in the Senate see no starbursts for Elizabeth Warren. The woman has them scarred shitless, she will take the helm of the new Consumer Protection agency. There was virtually no chance Obama would use only a week recess to do appointments that way, but the wingers ain’t taking no chances.
LoL, they can run but not hide, as it seems to me that Obama is committed to getting Warren to start up this potentially powerful bullwark against runaway greed. We shall see.
I love it that this bright dorky woman fills the heeman wingers with such morbid dread, regardless of what happens.

Great. Palin is going to turn the sites of some of the worst massacres to occur on US soil into kitsch. Knowing Sarah, she’ll probably make it a celebration of state’s rights and Johnny Reb.

I live just five miles from Antietam. Is it worth the energy to demonstrate against her, or would it be better to just ignore her? (FWIW, Sharpsburg is a Republican town, and located in a pretty R county; the KKK has held small rallies in S’burg in the recent past, say within the last five years.)
NonyNony
Wait a minute …
Sarah Palin has announced a private bus tour of famous American historical sites being paid for out of her PAC?
So … she’s getting her supporters to give her an all-expenses paid vacation across the US? In a private bus? And what does she promise to do on this tour of the US? “Through visits to historical sites and patriotic events, we’ll share the importance of America’s foundation.” She promises to go see some sights, attend some Fourth of July celebrations, and maybe a few rallies. Somehow I’m betting the motorcycle rally in Sturgis might even make the cut as a “patriotic event” if she feels like attending it.
This is perhaps the most awesomely shameless piece of political grifting I think I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I’m in awe – she’s on her way to being the most successful con artist in the history of the country.

@Thoughtful Black Co-Citizen: Civil War battles were often, but not always, named after the nearest water feature by the North (Antietam Creek) and by the nearest town by the South (Sharpsburg). See also: Bull Run/Manassas.

Short Bus tour more like. I suspect the final itinerary will be strongly influenced by the fundraising efforts of prospective cities.
It’s a stupid idea. This has not been a slow news year, and she’s gonna get repeatedly blown off TV by the real news of the day.
