Some jackass in Texas who teaches concealed hand gun classes ran radio advertisements telling socialist liberals, people who voted for President Obama, Arabs, and Muslims that they shouldn’t apply for his class because he’s not having it:
Crockett Keller, who owns Keller’s Riverside Store, ran the ads on the radio station in his rural hometown of Mason, Texas, which is 120 miles west of the state capital of Austin.
“If you are a Socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner in chief, please do not take this class,” Keller said in the ad. “You have already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision as required under the law.”
“Also, if you are a non-Christian Arab, or Muslim, I will not teach you the class,” Keller said in the radio ad.Keller said he is simply exercising his freedom to teach concealed handgun license classes to whomever he wants. He said he has received “hundreds” of calls from Americans who support his stance.
“I should have had the class next week instead of this week, I could have had 500 people in it,” Keller said on Friday.
He said he was not joking when he put the lines about socialists in his commercial, because he knows some socialist liberals and did not want them to enroll in the class.
“I didn’t want them to show up and have to tell them no,” he said.
While it is unclear how Keller plans to weed out the undesirables from his class (perhaps he has some special “socialist liberal” radar technology), I do believe the right to teach gun classes to whomever you want is in the Konstatushion. Freedom of Teach, I think it’s called.

No lie: my family lived next door to his in the early eighties, until I was seven. My sister and I used to play with his kids. My dad sent me this story a few days ago, and he wasn’t the least bit surprised that Crockett would do something like this.
It made me pine for the days when I was young and had no idea that a good portion of the adults in the world are complete nutjobs.
JPL
What about Nazi’s and fascists? Are they allowed in his class.
Odie Hugh Manatee
I think he’s going to use an IQ test to determine if the applicant is a liberal or God Fearing Christian Conservative(TM). If they agree and ask for a pen to fill it out then he’ll reject them.
If they get pissed and start threatening him then they get to take the class.
Remember, this is in Texas. Fail is a way of life there.

Hey, at least he’s honest. You have to give him that.

It’s Texas. Like Molly Ivins used to say, except for Austin, liberals pretty much need a visa for touring most places in that state.
I think the rest of us need to teach fuckers like this asshat, the meaning of equality under the law, before we give the lone star back to Mexico. I wouldn’t pass off an uneducated Zombie to a friend. won’t do that. Scruples.

Stations have the right to reject ads with questionable, or controversial, content. All kidding aside, I don’t care how rural the community, I’m surprised this ad was allowed.

I can’t speak to TX but there tends to be some rather important things presented in a CCW class … maybe being disqualified from this guy’s class isn’t such a bad thing.

@Zifnab: I’m the opposite — I want someone to take his class, never talk about politics, do really well, then show up to pick up her certification wearing big “Obama 2012” and “I am the 99%” buttons. “What are you going to do about it now, asshole?”
John Weiss
@General Stuck: General, though I loved Molly, she wasn’t right all the time. Dallas, Houston and San Antonio for three other cities are rather blue!

Since I’m guessing the Islamic community of rural West Texas wasn’t actually clamoring to take his gun class (though, given the political climate in that part of the country, Muslims in the region might want to think about taking one from someone), this is pretty much a publicity stunt to grab all the rube traffic for himself.

I’m joking. Mainly.
Apart from this, the guy is an obvious dope looking to get attention, and stupidly putting his ability to do any classes at risk, since he is clearly violating Texas Public Safety Department rules.

@Reality Check: Wrong. Rasmussen was not the closest in 2004. While he did well, others did just as well if not slightly better. And when looking at just battleground states, Mason-Dixon performed better than Rasmussen. You’re only correct about 2008, though he was not the most accurate when it came to the presidential primaries.
Oh, and you didn’t include 2000? Is that because Rasmussen was about the worst pollster in that cycle?
Or how about the most recent cycle, 2010? Why not use the most recent election, or do midterms simply not count in your book? Because Rasmussen’s polling went off a cliff in 2010, producing some of the WORST results in the last 10 years of polling, including a Hawaii poll that was 40 points off the mark.
Funny how you left that information out.
And I know you’re going to say that the presidential race and a midterm election are different. But why should it matter in state by state polling results, unless you admit that Rasmussen does a horrible job polling individual states?
Jebediah
@Reality Check:
Not really. If Romney gets the nomination, an ad detailing how much money he made for himself while shipping gobs of American jobs overseas will do nicely. U.S. Supreme Court, DC v Heller. 2008. They quote a lot of old stuff like the Founding Fathers from 8,000,000 BC, too.
And this was in the context of emphasizing that the clear meaning was that of individuals’ rights to possess firearms.

I love how Reality Check likes to call Obama “Obambi”
Obama is the one who killed Osama Bin Laden, half the al Qaeda leadership, and a shitload of Somali pirates, and who finally took out Gaddafi.
George W. Bush, meanwhile, was a former cheerleader who liked to play dress up and pretend he was a tough military man. (The missing year in the Alabama Air National Guard excluded.)
Call him Obambi all you want, but he’s the one who brought the fucking high heat while your boy pissed his pants on 9/11 like a fucking child.

@Lysana: As far as I can recall, Reagan’s bombing of Libya and attempt at Ghadafi in 1986 was cheered by conservatives (among others) as an attempt by Reagan to destroy him. By air. Bombing. So if it counted with Reagan, as unfair as it might be when taken too literally, it counts for Obama.
Therefore, Obama took out Ghadafi while Reagan tried and failed in 1986.

I seriously think at least half of the country does not know what the 14th amendment or the 1964 civil rights act means today. Lunch counter protests ring a bell maybe? No, you do not get to discriminate against people by race or religion in your private business. Please continue to advertise that you are doing so, so that you can get shut down/fined/sued faster.
Reminds me of a local story here in Minnesota where a few women were among those hired to drive a Saudi group around while they were at the Mayo clinic. The second day, their employer flat out told them they were being fired because the Saudis didn’t want women drivers. At least half the people responding to a news article reporting this said stuff like, “the customer is always right!” No, you do not get to fire people for being women, no matter what your customer wants. More/better civics classes please.

To all the folks who are hating on Texas, please take a peek at this 2010 election results map:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/tx.htm
Note the blue of the largest cities. While the sea of red can be terrifying, note the actual population in the counties in the sea of red. Note how in many counties the race was actually pretty close by Texas standards – Obama won 35% or more of the vote in a lot of red areas. This is in overwhelmingly GOP-dominated Texas, too.
We’ve got dipsh*ts, morons, rednecks, downright ignorant bubbas (and then we leave the government arena to look at everyone else), but we also have a large Democratic community that is trying to change the state. Just because our fools and idiots are so over-the-top they make Dolly Parton look flatchested doesn’t mean all of Texas needs to be dumped on. Hell, Rick Perry just proves the old adage – everything’s bigger in Texas, including the village idiots!
