‘Game Change’ shows what kind of thinking goes into the GOP smelter these days……pot metal and pig iron.
J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford
When Caribou Barbie made those comments the other day I had a wtf? moment. Why would a black man WANT to go back to the days before the Civil War? It’s about as logical as a sitting President WANTING gas prices to go up in an election year.
This is some seriously developmentally disabled shit they’re dealing here.
Litlebritdifrnt
Rush opined that the ad shows that the left are “terrified” of Sarah Palin. But then again Rush keeps telling us that he hasn’t lost any advertisers so there is that. BTW Other than Lear Capital and some Lou Dobbs “money minute” thing, all of the ads on the show in my area today were for local businesses, which of course my local stations makes money off, Rush gets nothing for those.
The Other Chuck
I’d say Palin shoots out words like squid ink, but squids are actually fairly judicious about when they use their ink. She’s never met a sentence that couldn’t be improved in her mind by tripling its length and using at least two verb tenses.
Litlebritdifrnt
@J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford:
A caller to the Limbaugh show today said “I want gas to rise to $6.00 a gallon before November to ensure that Obama loses” (or words to that effect) Rush then opined “$5.00 a gallon would be enough” So the republicans are basically admitting that they want people to suffer just so that Obama loses. Nice of them to start being honest about it.
Bubblegum Tate
@Litlebritdifrnt:
Oh, that’s been the wingnut line since Palin’s stupidity became obvious. To which I usually respond that such logic must mean that they (wingers) must be so terrified of Obama that they wet their pants at least 5 times a day.
Zifnab
Oh, he’s absolutely right. We’re totally terrified. Don’t throw us into the brier patch, Mr. Limbaugh! Also, please stop speaking those terrible truths about Sandra Fluke. You’re killing us!

After having watched “Game Change” this past weekend, I was reminded of something that’s been true since probably Katrina: you can do something to please the Republican base, or you can do something to please the majority of the American people, BUT NOT BOTH. One comes at the expense of the other.
A lot of people inside both Parties need to recognize this reality and deal with it.
Chris
I love watching her talk. There are conservatives who get my blood pressure up just by looking at them; she, on the other hand, mostly induces hilarity. You can tell she’s trying to string as many buzzwords as possible together, you can tell she’s struggling to remember them and you can just tell she has little to no idea what the hell she’s saying.
WyldPirate
@Nom de Plume:
To be fair, Moose lady didn’t say that.
What I find humorous is the utter historical illiteracy she displays by implying that Obama wants to take the country back to a time when he could have been potentially enslaved.

She’s a paid contributor for Faux. They built her a studio so she comes on their shows and performs her contractual duty. She’s not getting any other media coverage these days. The rest of us don’t need to pay attention to it.

@Litlebritdifrnt:
Hasn’t this been obvious since day 1 of the Obama presidency? I mean, the whole debt ceiling debacle last summer sent a shudder through financial markets and caused consumer confidence to drop, hurting the economic recovery. Those (like me) who lost jobs in that period are collateral damage in the mission to destroy the presidency of that uppity you-know-what.
Linda Featheringill
In 2008, we had a lot of “Psst! Obama is not as spiffy as he looks. He is risky. We shouldn’t take a chance on him.”
And four years later, we get the same thing. What the hey? Barack is not an unknown quantity to the US people. They know who he is and what he’s like. Voting for him is not “taking a chance.”
Keep it up guys.

My Internet was out for a couple of days. Why exactly is Palin back in the news?
Aren’t there some primaries today? Does anyone care about the GOP race anymore? I can’t judge; I stopped caring a couple weeks ago.

I can’t believe Obama wants to take us back to the days before the Civil War when there were social classes. Doesn’t he know the Civil War was fought to free the lower classes from their wage slavery?
It’s right there in Das Kapital.
Thanks Sarah.

I was terrified of the notion that she could be a heartbeat away from the White House, yes. The idea of a president who doesn’t know North from South Korea and manifestly has no interest at all in learning it having her finger on the nuclear button is unsettling to say the least.
Afraid of her as a candidate? No. Afraid of her as an advocate against us? No. She’s been a laughing stock for moderates and liberals alike every since she first walked onto the stage, and she couldn’t do more good for our cause if she was a paid Democratic operative.

This is why I disagree somewhat with John’s characterization that “these reactionary lunatics open their mouths, they hurt themselves.” Look who’s watching Faux “News”? Not the people who would deem this babbling hurtful to the cause.
The only way it reaches the “they hurt themselves” level is if the Villagers get a hold of it and run with it.
And the Villagers haven’t been doing that for almost 20 years now.

You folks do realize that this stuff is orchestrated, don’t you? Sarah, Addled Plain and Simple, is picking up the gauntlet thrown down by the Breitbart idiot. They had to run to Fox News with this because NBC and other outlets openly laughs at them.
Sadly, as moronic as Palin might be, she is still seen as authentic by some Republicans, even though anyone with a lick of sense just cringes whenever she speaks.
But it is almost all they have, and they are going to run with it as long as they can. And as long as the dumbest conservative rubes keep lapping it up.
You may be right. Either way, it’s still seriously moronic.

Sometimes I wonder what the world would be like if Bill Clinton had just said, “no thanks, I’ll hold off on the extra tail until after I’m out of office.” Is there still a Drudge? Is there a Glenn Beck? Would the fact that both sides do it still be good news for McCain?

@Mnemosyne: I think the idea is that before the Civil War there was racial and regional division in the nation, and after the war there was unity, so Obama is dividing us anew along the racial lines that the Civil War was supposed to have knit together. Sort of like how affirmative action is “reverse racism” because all racial awareness is bad.

Who among hasn’t had to give a book report on a book we never even looked at?
Redshift
@MikeJ: Yup. Ken Starr is reported to have told his investigators, “We know he’s guilty of something, we just have to find out what.”
All of the Clinton “scandals” were penny-ante compared to what every Republican administration since Nixon has gotten up to. The only reason they haven’t managed the same with Obama is that, perhaps, people have wised up a little bit, and he’s literally given them nothing to work with. That’s really hard, and not something that should be required of any president.
I remember saying during the Clinton era (or maybe Bush II), that Democratic scandals are about personal misconduct and financial matters of a size that would be in the “miscellaneous expenses” category for a Republican. And Republican scandals are about undermining the workings of our democracy.

This is what they believe. Remember when Glenn Beck was saying the President was building FEMA detention camps to inter teabaggers. Evangelicals and fundies have a persecution complex (ie the war on Christmas) and they’re suckers for conspiracy theories (ie Obama killed Breitbart). So their mind set, egged on by Hate Radio, loonie toon clergy (Catholic Bishops), and people like Palin and Noot, believes Obama will put hard working whites in interment camps run by Commandant Al Gore.

@MikeJ: With no Monica then the Big Dog would have been campaigning at Gore’s side rather than at arm’s length. There would have been no impeachment. So yes, I think it would have made enough of a difference to push .001% of Florida’s votes to Gore and the SCOTUS would not have been in a position to steal it.
The question is would Gore have survived the collapse of the tech bubble and (maybe) 9/11.

@Litlebritdifrnt: Under the barter system, RushCo (or Clear Channel, or whatever) gets nothing for local ads because he has the right to air ones nationally in some slots. But the syndicator is probably trying to switch the arrangements with local stations to the cash system, where a station pays for the right to air the show but also keeps the rights to more or all ad slots. Blimpbaugh can likely survive for a while longer in an all-cash system, if he wants to, because it’s a lot more time consuming to pressure thousands of local advertisers. But an all-cash system will likely make a few stations drop him entirely because it’s riskier and less efficient.

@Redshift:
I agree, to some extent. But I think the nature of the “tee-hee nawty sexy time LOL!” scandal and the timing of it are both really important. Starr was originally investigating whitewater right? I mean, no one gave a shit about that at all. You had people shooting watermelons in their back yards, they were scrambling. Then, suddenly, something comes a long that gives idiots a chance to almost say penis on tv and then giggle all night with their friends. Meanwhile, Fox News and MSNBC had launched only 18 months later and need to fill time, and what’s better to fill “news” time than semen stains and breathless discussions about the exact nature of “sexual relations.”
How much of the media’s Gore bashing was them being mad that nobody dinged him for being Clinton’s vice president when “everyone knew” that would bother voters?
The answer is “who knows” of course, but it seems strange to assume that impeaching a president had only a negligable effect on the country.
Brachiator
@Mnemosyne:
But she is not trying to make sense. She is echoing the Breitbart Remnants nonsense that the Civil Rights movement, except maybe for MLK, was actually a super radical black power Get Whitey movement. And Obama proved that he is the Revolutionary in Chief when he hugged Derrick Bell.
This ain’t dog whistling, as some Balloon Juicers like to think. This is a continuation of the slur that “liberal” blacks are the “real racists,” and that Real White American Patriot Christian Republicans(tm) all became as pure as the driven snow with respect to race either after Lincoln freed the slaves or six days after MLK’s I Have A Dream speech.

Best I could come up with is President Gore would probably have been impeached (maybe even convicted and removed from office) because of 9/11.

@Fanshawe:
I agree with you. Gore would have been in office, ergo no 9/11, no Iraq war, etc., etc. etc. We’d be in a much better place, but we wouldn’t know that, so they probably would elect some horrible Republican after Gore anyway.
I’m depressed by the front-page story in the NYTimes about how Obama’s approval numbers are down again. what is wrong with this country?

@MikeJ:
It contributed to Bush v. Gore because Gore DIDN’T want Clinton to campaign for him. Gore should’ve made the campaign about continuing the 8 years of great economic growth. Instead it came down to a Republican lieing about his moderation & a Democrat who wanted to sound like a nice Republican. Democratic campaigners spend too much time sucking the same stale air as all the center-right & right-wing pundits and believe everything they are told by those idiots. Even Obama’s team seems to listen to the stupidest people on earth much more than they should.
