Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

He really is that stupid.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

Let there be snark.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

You cannot shame the shameless.

It took longer than I thought it would to materialize, but here is Gregory Hlatky’s response to Jonah’s dog column yesterday.

Behaving like the greedy thieves

Behaving like the greedy thieves that they are, the House of Representatives, the body with a REPUBLICAN majority, under the cover of darkness, pickpocketed each and every one of us and stole a little bit of our constitutionally protected rights. Shays-Meehan aka the Incumbent Protection Act of 2002 aka The Large Media Monopoly Empowerment act passed the house, by a margin of 240-189. 46 Republicans voted for this, including Shelly Moore-Capito, a representative from my home state. She is the daughter of the convicted crook and former Governor of WV, Arch Moore, so I should have expected this. Shelly, if you are reading this, I am taking back the congratulatory note I wrote you last year.

Two special notes:

1.) Voters of S.C.- Lindsey Graham said: “I’m willing to pay a price in having my friends mad at me.” With special interests giving millions of dollars to the political parties, he said, “you’ll never convince me it doesn’t affect legislation.”

He wants to be your Senator.

2.) I am not voting for a Republican again in a long while. I don’t give two hoots in hell if I am one of 8 votes for Harry Browne or whoever the libertarian candidate is. One of those 8 votes will be mine.

Now it is time to watch the disgusting bastards pass this enormous budget. After all, they are ‘fiscal conservatives.’

Our only hope lies with Mitch McConnell and his band of renegade Constitutionalists in the Senate. Bring on the filibuster.

This may be the most disturbing (and filthy) thing I have ever seen on the web. It is called the Pornolizer. I just love it.

Found this link on Richard Bennett’s Omphalos, a website I found from the Vodkapundit.

Dad- Do not show mom this.

In one of the most triumphant displays of rhetorical excess in recent memory, Tom Turnipseed (I am not making the name up) has managed to meld every hackneyed leftist ideal into one semi-incoherent smorgasbord of self-loathing and blame-shifting. In an article titled The Bush Administration’s Folly: Arrogance of Arms Abroad and Access to Avarice at Home, Mr. Turnipseed needs only 8 paragraphs to cook up and serve a paranoid stew that discusses:

1.) Chris Patten’s distaste for the phrase ‘axis of evil’
2.) Eu distaste in our not engaging North Korea
3.) Patten’s hatred of our ending terrorism but not attacking ‘root causes’
4.) American triumphalism
5.) Vladmir Putin’s insistence we not topple Saddam Hussein
6.) Kurdish (these are the people Hussein gassed) opposition to American interference in Iraq (he gets bonus points here, because he in one stroke claims our foreign policy is hand crafter by the Turks and mentions that they dislike us because we abandoned them in 1991)
7.) The London Observer and Paul Kennedy’s criticism of our defense budget
8.) Enron
9.) Shays-Meehan and Campaign Finance Reform
10.) Iranian anti-American protests

I am dizzy.

I have long said that

I have long said that Ice Skating is not a sport. I have said it here several times this week. It may still be an athletic event, but who the hell cares, especially since it is rigged. The only reason this bothers me is because I know there are a lot of people who really enjoy watching ice skating. Just another file in my I Hate France dossier.
