I simply do not get it- how the hell is Big Tent Democrat claiming this is a sexist attack:
He even truncates the remark to remove the second part of the quote, where Obama decries that “sort of gamesmanship.” Look, I believe there has been a good bit of sexism launched at Hillary this campaign, and have said as much. I haven’t seen any of it, however, from Obama and his campaign.
Pretending this is a sexist attack is as stupid as pretending that when Clinton called Obama a “kid” means he was calling him a “boy,” which of course means Clinton was actually calling Obama the n-bomb. That was stupid. This assertion is stupid. Not to mention, we know that the Hillary campaign, as a strategy, has decided to go negative and challenge Obama to debates in order to… boost Hillary’s appeal.
If this is sexist, then we are all sexists now. And the Clinton supporters really are getting pathetic, clutching at straws with a zeal Captain Ed could admire.
*** Update ***
Via the comments, I see that the freak-out is over the use of the word “periodically.” Give me a fucking break.
Here is Obama launching a exist attack on his smoking history: “”I’ve never been a heavy smoker,” Obama said. “I’ve quit periodically over the last several years. I’ve got an ironclad demand from my wife that in the stresses of the campaign I don’t succumb. I’ve been chewing Nicorette strenuously.”
Here is Mandolin, from Alas, A Blog, featured at the Feministblogs collaborative, launching a sexist attack on a homeless woman:
I have a friend who used to live as a homeless heroin addict on the streets of San Francisco when she was a teenager. Periodically, she writes about her experiences. People in workshops tend to respond by telling her that the experiences aren’t “realistic.”
I am sympathetic to many of the causes and concerns of feminists, but this sort of shit is ridiculous.
*** Update #2 ***
From the comments:
Obama wrote “The Audacity of Hope.” Emily Dickenson called hope “The thing with feathers.” Birds are things with feathers, and they have wings. What else has wings? Political parties… and Tampax!
There. I finally came up with a thought process dumber than the one behind BTD’s post.
