For a writer and a historian, Tom Spencer seems to be having a helluva time tracking down this recent historical timeline and is calling me to task for not sufficiently ‘condemning’ the 9/11 commission. For Mr. Spencer’s edification, here is a quick review of events.
– On Wednesday, 6 August, at 7:53 pm, Dwight Meredith posted a piece titled ‘Blue Ribbon Panel’ in which he discussed the various Saudi ties of six of the members.
– On Thursday, 7 August, at 1:21 AM, Mark Kleiman wrote a post titled ‘WHOSE SIDE ARE THEY ON, ANYWAY?,’ in which he asked the question:
How hard is it to figure out that the former Secretary of State of the United States shouldn’t be carrying water for the foreign power responsible for the largest massacre of Americans ever carried out?
– On Friday, 8 August, at 12:05 AM, Dwight Meredith responds to Mark’s question about Baker in a post titled ‘Gorelick Must Resign the 9/11 Commision.’ Dwight’s response:
The same can be asked of each of the

John:
Just out of curiosity, whose blog is this? I mean, are there really people out there taking you to task for not posting on what THEY think is important?
Yet another reason why, while I might read blogs, it’ll be a long time before I’d even consider having my own blog.

I recall when he was using his high ground to critique Jay & Jane and their site (which he somehow cricitized as not having many visitors, when his comments section was as vacant as Gray Davis’ fan club).
Jeez, I haven’t gone to town on this subject because I thought Dwight had done a great job & I said as much in his comments section.
I’m more worried about why you’d use your time to delve into discussion with the cesspool-commenters at atrios’ site instead of posting what Spencer declares should be present on your site. :)

There are circle jerks on both sides of the blogosphere, and you ran into one.
On the one hand, Dwight Meredith and others are well worth the time to read and debate, and then there are those who blogroll each other’s posts and stick together like it’s Grade Nine.

I still don’t understand how being on the commission and having some past connection to the Saudis is somehow even on the same level as being on the commission and being actively engaged in defending the Saudis against 9/11 victims. Maybe I’m just being a dunderhead, though.

Actually, in Tom’s words, you would be a partisan hypocrite. And that is if he is generous enough to honestly represent your position, a luxury I have not been afforded.

Once, I thought the Saudis were our friends, and felt kindly disposed toward them. I suppose that in the land of moral equivalence, that also disqualifies me as much as being an attorney defending my Saudi prince against 9/11 victims would.
Interesting, that land of moral equivalence. I don’t think I’d like to visit there any time soon, though.

Again, who cares what John Cole thinks–about anything.
Anybody who defends the notion Timothy McVeigh isn’t worse than Bill and Hillary Clinton simply has no credibility.

You.

Congrats John, the left-wing blogosphere has a smear contract out on you.
