Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Be a wild strawberry.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Accountability, motherfuckers.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

The lights are all blinking red.

Gail Collins, Busybody

Gail Collins, like most Democrats, doesn’t like how you are spending your money. Apparently, if soft money was evil, ‘hard’ money from individuals is worse. And get this- Gail points out that some of the people donating money to Bush’s campaign may have benefitted from the tax cuts passed in the past few years. Imagine.

Note to Democrats- most conservatives think tax cuts benefit EVERYONE.

Good Read

This post is in: Republican Stupidity

On the whole, a very fair and well-written newsitorial in the NY Times:

In fact, a review of the president’s public statements found little that could lead to a conclusion that the president actually lied on either subject. But more pertinent than whether the president told the literal truth is what factors he stressed and which ones he played down.

Certainly, a strong argument can be made that he exaggerated the danger posed by banned Iraqi weapons when he was trying to convince the country and Congress of the need for a pre-emptive strike and that he overemphasized the benefits to people of modest means when he was trying to sell his tax cut.

Which is what I have been saying for months. He hasn’t lied- he may have exaggerated, and in the end, he and everyone else (including all the Democrat Senaotrs who once agreed Iraq had WMD) may have been wrong, but he hasn’t lied.

In the speech in March, on the eve of war, Mr. Bush declared, “Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised.”

There is no evidence the president did not believe what he was saying. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and other Democrats said last week that intelligence briefings they received justified Mr. Bush’s statements.

Democrats- calling him stupid had more traction than calling him a liar. You see where that got you.

Usually I Ignore These

This post is in: General Stupidity

Usually I ignore stories like this:

A United States senator doesn’t go unnoticed when he pulls rank in public. So when populist Democrat Tom Harkin jumped a snaking security line of less exalted passengers at Reagan National Airport on Friday to make his flight home to Iowa, it was only a matter of minutes before someone dropped a dime.

In this case, that someone was Jim Warren, deputy managing editor of the Chicago Tribune, who had just arrived around 10 a.m. when he spotted Harkin flashing his Senate ID at the Midwest Express counter and being escorted past some 200 long-suffering travelers who were waiting to go through security.

However, when you are confronted with your behavior, this seems to be the worst possible response (other than “F— Off, I’m a Senator”):

“He was supposed to be on the 10:30 a.m. Midwest Express direct flight to Des Moines, and he had a full schedule of events there,” Dobson said. “If he missed that flight, he would have had to cancel a full day of meetings with officials. There were a lot of people who would have been disappointed.”

Don’t…. You…. Get…. IT? EVERYONE in that long line had travel plans, every one had appointments and things to do, everyone had family members, friends, or business associates who would be disappointed if they missed the flight. Talk about obtuse.

The Kids Aren’t Alright

by John Cole|  June 21, 200312:22 pm| 4 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

I just saw the most annoying kid I have ever seen on television on MSNBC. He was the “O” in a set of four kids from Iowa, each with their own letter on their shirt. They were going to some sort of Democrat event or another, and they were asking the students why they were there (they were college age). They all gave their reasons, then this snot nosed brat said:

“I like John Kerry because of his military background and I want a President who will use the military to do something other than protect his oil interests.”

He then looked around for nodding approvals from his comrades, all while displaying a smug smile of sanctimony and utter pleasure in his actions, not unlike a toddler doing the business on the pot. I had the sudden urge to just rip his arms off and beat him with the bloody stumps.

Congrats, loony libs- another young mind who uses your insane talking points instead of thinking. I wish I had beaten more kids like this up when I was younger and could get away with it.

I hated it when they shat on the Bush twins, I didn’t care for them dragging Noelle Bush through the mud, and I don’t like the antics of Howard Dean’s 17 year old son being reported as if it was newsworthy. Irresponsible press.

Alternet- Your source for the ‘Truth’

Alternet describes their mission as such:

AlterNet.org is an online magazine and information resource where pressing issues are subject to examination and debate.

By providing quality journalism, dependable research, issue-focused public interest content and passionate advocacy, we believe our readers will be better equipped to make informed decisions about problems that affect us all.

Overall, we seek to engage our community of readers in problem solving, community action and awareness of current events in the United States and abroad.

They better get back to the drawing board, because Brian Carnell rips revisionist columnist Greg Palast a new one for his ridiculous piece titled “The Screwing of Cynthia McKinney.”

Some on the left just flat out makes shit up. It isn’t even funny anymore. Note to morons and bullshit peddlers- Ken Layne put you on notice a year anda half ago when he told you this: “It’s 2001, and we can Fact Check your ass.”
