Via Kos, it looks like the 2006 Clinton/Pirro senate race is starting to look like the 2004 Obama/Keyes race. In other words, an outright debacle for the Republicans:
JEANINE PIRRO’S gaffe- marred announcement and her emphasis on liberal social positions has led to new unrest in some quarters of the state GOP, party insiders said yesterday.
“A lot of people were unhappy with her boatload of mistakes, and they’re starting to take another look at Ed Cox as a result,” said a prominent Republican lawmaker, referring to the son-in-law of former President Richard Nixon who hopes to challenge Pirro in the GOP primary for the right to run against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
It looks like the Clinton strategy for handling this ‘law and order’ Republican is to give her enough rope to hang herself.
Talk Left also notes this cheap shot by the NY Post. Cna we just leave families out of this stuff?

OK, it’s time to dump Pirro and bring in a wing, er, ringer. Grogan v. Hillary 2006.
Steve
The NY Post is a Murdoch publication, of course, so it’s not that they’re pro-Hillary. It’s just that they can’t resist a chance to run some tabloid trash.
The NY GOP is a disaster. Hillary is obviously not going to lose, and they would do well to run a solid conservative like Ed Cox rather than try to out-liberal Hillary on abortion and such.
Demdude
Did they really think she (Pirro) would win or is it an attempt to:
Damage Hilary in some way?
Fund raising? (It’s like a red shirt in front of a Bull when either Clinton is mentioned in Republican Circles!)
(Not to snark, just wondering about strategy.)

Between this and the Incredible Shrinking Gropinator, it appears that the Republican party will shortly resemble the human appendix in both NY and California: small, vestigial, ugly and useless.

Tom, it won’t be Obama vs. Keyes unless the Republicans bring in a carpetbagger who ran for office or even held office in another state.
Oh, wait . . .

That last one was addressed to John, of course . . .

Source: Weld wants to run for New York gov

ALBANY, N.Y. — Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld wants to run for governor of his native New York next year and expects to make a final decision about that this fall, a Republican familiar with his thinking said Monday.
The Republican spoke only on condition of anonymity because of Weld’s concern that any definitive public statement at this point could make it more difficult for the former governor to wrap up his business dealings.
The source told The Associated Press that Weld expected he would have his business obligations as a private equity investment adviser settled sometime in September or October and would then be willing to discuss the GOP nomination for governor of New York. The source said Weld currently sees no political obstacle to running.

Uh…NY ain’t Texas. No anti-choice conservative is going to beat a Democrat here unless all kinds of planets alligned. There’s some millionaire named Golisano who’s tried on a few occasions to run for office in NY. He’s one of those anti-choice hard right-wingers. He can’t win a primary let alone an election. Nope, not gonna happen here. The statewide Repugs here pretty much have to be pro-choice.

Hmm…I’m sure you’ve all heard about 32 second “not a fucking clue what to do without the script” moment the other day during her announcement. Just for shits and giggles, I’m going to hold down the H button (for Hillary) on my computer for 32 seconds just to give time some physical dimension.
Okay, here we go…

Mr. Cole,
As long as you have posters of the caliber above commenting on your blog, you may have a tough ride (re-)negotiating your advertising rates.

C’mon John: given the current state of the NY State GOP, Jeanine Pirro may very well BE the best Republican candidate for them to run and Hillary Clinton in ’06: and THAT, in and of itself, should say a lot about the GOP’s reckoning of their chances in the race.
Jeanine Pirro has a good local rep downstate as a kick-ass local DA: but that’s about it: given that the incumbent has both statewide and national name-recognition second to almost-none, and (more importantly) that Jeanine! has basically broadcast her whole campaign strategy in her announcement speech, I wouldn’t think Hillary! should be looking for movers just yet.
Sad (for Republicans, anyway, big boohoo) – but Rudy Giuliani is the ONLY viable Repub candidate for the Senate seat in ’06 and he (by all accounts) ain’t going anywhere.
That said, I agree: the NY Post was scraping the bottom of sleaze with that linked article: but then, it’s the Post, whaddya expect?

Pirro will crush Hillary.

It is not a corndog eating contest
Pirro won’t make it out of the primary

And even if it is, Pirro will likely f**k up and give a Hillary a 30 second head start.
ckrisz
New York is very socially liberal, and generally speaking the parts that aren’t don’t make it the crusade it is in other parts of the country. If Pirro came out as prolife it would sink her candidacy pretty thoroughly.
The best evidence of this is Hilary’s numbers upstate in the last election. No reason to think she can’t do it again at this point.

This is a match up like between the wicked witch of the west(hillary)and the good witch of the north(pirro)and look out for the flying monkeys

I don’t understand why that republican has the right to do those things.
