Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

T R E 4 5 O N

Their shamelessness is their super power.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

The Fordham Follies

Below I suggested (via Hilzoy) that Mark Foley Chief of Staff turned Tom Reynolds Chief of Staff turned Mark Foley Harvey Keitel figure Kirk Fordham must have gotten permission from his current employer before freelancing on behalf of his former employer. The NRCC chair’s chief of staff went scandalously AWOL in the middle of a fierce battle for his majority’s survival? Come on.

Via Aravosis and hot off one of the most embarrassing press conferences in modern history, Reynolds claims (video link) that Fordham went AWOL.

So now the buck is in Fordham’s lap. What do you think will be his story?

I think I’m going to enjoy watching all of this on The Daily Show tonight… why waste time coming up with gags when you can just run video of Congressmen self-destructing…

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m thrilled the Republicans brought an ethos of personal responsibility to Washington.

That media accounts of the whole affair are hasty, biased, and inaccurate; that he had no idea of what was happening since it was not his job, anyway; that these things should not take up the peoples’ time when issues of national security are at stake, and that, in any case he was home with his family when all this was happening; and that what Bill Clinton did was worse, so why are all these biased reporters picking on him?

    Or words to that effect.

“Let’s concentrate on the REAL issue – how did you find out about this buck in my lap? What did Sloan/Soros/ABC know, and when did they know it? Barney Frank is gay. No more questions, please.”

Hmmmm…again someone’s trying to minimize the extent of the situation. It was a “twenty dollar bill” and it wasn’t put in his lap! They can attempt to spin it any way they want…it’ll only get WORSE.

Throughout all this, I keep hearing background music…”Pop goes the Weasel”…fits so many aspects of and so many people in this entire mess.
