Eers v. ECU open thread.
*** Update ***
Worst officiated game ever so far.
That was not a fumble.
That was not pass interference.
That was a hideous spot on 4th and 1. He made no forward progress.
There should have been offsetting penalties for the personal foul.
This is just terribad officiating.
*** Update #2 ***
Well, you can blame the flat start on the refs, but we just got our heads kicked in today, and were terrible in every aspect of the game. Our suspect secondary is no longer suspect, and is just bad. We can not tackle. Our offensive line was blown off the ball the entire game. We put no pressure and our defensive line might as well have been drinking margaritas on a beach somewhere.
This is not to say that this was all WVU being bad. As bad as we were, ECU was good. They played a solid, physical game, and are clearly a team on the rise and one worth watching. If WVU is in the top 25, the voters are on crack.
As a side note, I am now officially a beer snob. Drank a couple local brewed nut brown pale ale’s, which had a decent taste but a finish that evaporated like seltzer water. Then had a Sam Adams, which is swill. Then tried a Bass, and hated it (and yes, I have had it before). I am going to go out on the town and try to find a decent drink after I shower.

Ahem. USF. We’re so good we took Jenn Stenger away from Florida State! >:)
Incertus
Good luck with this one. ECU is looking tough right now.

Well into the 3rd quarter, my beloved alma mater, Ohio University, was beating Ohio State 14-6.
Ah, well. Still… GO BUCKEYES! And I’m actually glad my alma mater didn’t end up as this year’s Appalachian State. :-)
PaulW
I mean Jenn Sterger. We also got her third cousin from Colorado Jenn Stenger too. >:)
Kmoney
ECU scores first, dammit. Oh well, it’s early.
Bob In Pacifica
So Palin called Obama “Sambo”. She calls the Native People up in Alaska “Artic Arabs”. You wonder what she calls McCain behind his back.
Incertus
What a freaky play that was. That ball didn’t move once it hit the ground. You could certainly argue that his hand hit the ground out of bounds at the same time and that should have killed the play, I think, but what an odd play all the way around.
jake
Christ John, when are you moving? The PJTV ads are fuckin’ awful.

People, people, people…
Lets not get distracted by unimportant issues. The UM vs. UF game tonight will pretty much define the football day. I think we will finally have the answer to just how ‘badassss’ the young Canes are gonna be this season.
The distilled !WIN! in this team is deadly!!!1!

Semi-related: Whoever came up with the idea of local TV blackouts of games needs to be subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques…
JGabriel
I don’t get it. What’s this post and thread about?
Is this, like, sports or something?
.

Yeah, sure. The important thing is that Note Dame loses to San Diego State (currently tied 7-7) in the 3rd.

Re: Notre Dame
Do they still have their contract with NBC?
I never quite understood what a sweeeet-ass deal that was. Is that equivalent of a rim-job, or is that worth a Dirty-Sanchez in today’s dollars?
Kevin
Yes, they’re on right now, losing to San Diego State.
ploeg
Yes, in fact they extended the contract through 2015.

Everybody wants to see Notre Dame get beat!
gbear
I blame Obama.

Sometimes the guys who get paid, well, to dispense with football nuggets of ‘Hmmmmm’ stumble on to something interesting.
Who would have thought 5 years ago that Wake would be the dominant force in a super conference like the ACC, and would be losing to an Ole Miss, who is under-appreciated at best in the SEC?
GO CANES!

john, this Seahawks fan doesn’t want to hear any complaining about officals from you. Me? Still bitter?
LiberalTarian
lol. you mean, the MSM is doing the officiating???

I am +2 with North Coast Brewing Company’s Scrimshaw pilsner. GREAT STUFF. Very hoppy, low sugar, the way I like it. Go get yourself some awesome beer John. You deserve it.
Also, last week at BevMo I saw a $30 bottle of beer. Someday I’m gonna have to taste that beer, from Germany, but too rich for my pocketbook this month. Better be the best damn beer I ever tasted, s’all I’m sayin’.

Cal is up in the Palouse this afternoon, creaming the Cougars. 28-3 in the second quarter. If their punter didn’t keep putting the ball inside the five I would’ve switched channels.

OT: Did Fred replace his wife, Jeri Thompson with another woman named Jeri?
That woman in the PJTV ad looks nothing like the blonde who was in the news when he was in the primaries.

Our defense suuuuucccckkkksss.
Goddamn, we look like Louisville did last year. Embarrassing.
Svlad Jelly
And those officials were fucking bribed, man.

Glad to see that latest update. Was beginning to wonder if good ol’ Phil Gramm wasn’t right.
Micro brews are the only thing I drink these days. It makes beer worth drinking again. Now that I’ve move the National Political Desk to a hill farm in New England I’ve tried a few local breweries out and they are pretty good. I’ll have a report soon.
mellowjohn
i think sierra nevada pale ale is about the best “mass marketed micro brew” i’ve found in chicago. had an ipa called red tail ale out on the west coast several years ago that was really good.
the truly wonderful thing about becoming a beer snob is you have to keep trying… and trying… and trying… to find the really, really good ones!
mellowjohn
p.s. i can’t believe anyone pays any attention to college football.
of course, it helps to have gone to a college where the football team sucked.

I hate football almost as much as I hate hockey.
Violent sports only feed aggressiveness.
Its popularity (and sponsors) speak to the needs of our society.
Remember how many times Johnnie McPOW said “fight” in his acceptance speech? Did you hear the applause?
Listen to the cheerleaders at a football game, you’ll hear the exact same fuckin’ words.
War indoctrination for adolescent minds.
bwaage
To paraphrase the fark headline, WVU got beat by East Carolina, which isn’t even a state.
Meanwhile, Cal absolutely dismantled Washington state and I didn’t get to see any of it because i don’t have comcast sportsnet.

You take that back or I’ll smack you in the mouth.

I think video games are much, much worse on that score. And that ridiculous ultimate fighting crap.
And I’ll have you know that I haven’t gotten in a fight since I started watching football.
Course, I stopped binge drinking at about the same time, so…
Kathy
John, any chance you guys could take Rich Rod back? Please …..

oh come on, boxing, video games…same stuff.
It’s “PRGRAMMING”,
What’s the difference between 22 mostly black men beating the shit out of each other on a football field or two (most often black men) beating the shit out of each other inside a ring?
Next time there’s an NFL game, watch the commercials.
Count how many times an Army (especially) or a Marine one comes up.
Who exactly do you think those commercials are aimed at?
After doing so, have a look at the demographics of the military. Un-college bound white kids, unemployed black kids, and Hispanics looking to prove loyalty to ‘Merica.
Where do you think the “volunteers” come from?
no, no…not from those that are ALREADY predisposed to support aggressive behavior?
w vincentz
I meant to also state, that the violent behavior displayed by our black atheletes is largely supported by a white audience. They sit on the sidelines, chugging their brewskies and chant, “FIGHT!”, “Kill’EM!”
Sick society that thar!
Matt
I’m really glad that I skipped out on going to Kegler’s today. I’m nursing a six pack of Dead Guy Ale and listening to an eerily quiet Morgantown.

Tough day. The only saving grace is that it’s a down year for the Big East, so WV still has a shot at the BCS. I think it’s South Florida’s year, but I’m holding out hope my Rutgers Scarlet Knights can also be a factor after a lackluster opening. Anyone but UConn.
Gus
You can now get Bell’s in Chicago. I’m partial to their Third Coast ale. Their Two Hearted ale is a bit too floral for me. YMMV
D0n Camillo
I think you got unlucky with that Sam Adams you drank. Sam Adams Lager is pretty wicked yummy, but I’ve had some bad experiences in bars where it hasn’t been stored properly and it has tasted pretty awful. You might want to give it another chance.
SteveinSC
Go Pirates! ECTC rules.
PaulW
A down year for the Big East? What does that make it for the ACC conference, Ragnorok?!?!
>:-)
USF’s a good program, Grothe’s a decent QB, we got running backs out the ying yang, Taurus (approps) Johnson the deep WR threat. We got a defense that impresses (but dammit work on your tackling you damn safeties!). The weakest link is the damn coach, who thinks our FG kicker can make 44-yarders at a sharp angle. ARRRRRRGHHHHHH!!
Jeffro
OUCH!
As an ‘Eers fan who traveled down to Greenville this past weekend, let me just say that
a) those NC folks are some of the nicest folks you’d ever want to meet (and does their bbq ever rock) and
b) their tailgating, bars, and shenanigans in general don’t hold a candle to Morgantown!!
#25!! Hanging in there!! =)
Oh PS: ECU’s lines just dominated. That’s where it all went down (so to speak)
