I wonder when will wingnuts will figure out the thematic parallels between Daniel Craig’s new film Defiance and the Greatest Moving Picture Ever Recorded By Man (TM), Red Dawn. When they inevitably do, who will be the first wingnut blogger to paint himself as a Jewish partisan fighting the Nazis? Whoever guesses Ace of Spades, if correct, only gets half credit.

Some would ask the question, "How could you possibly conflate American peacenik liberals with the German Nazi war machine?" I would ask the question, "How can you not?"

What’s Yiddish for "wolverines"?
Bootlegger
I’m waiting for the Hollywood East production of the Gazan’s stout defense of The Strip against impossible odds. Hey, that’s a great working title: The Strip.
Bootlegger
@Zifnab: Damned straight! Them peacnik liberals are more heavily armed than Hitler’s Panzer divisions.
Comrade Dread
I think you overlook the obvious choice of those brave, persecuted souls, that band of brothers known as the Red State Strike Force.
The Other Steve
Damn, I thought this was going to be one of John Cole’s questions about why his Mac sucks.
WOLVERINES!
MikeJ
I don’t know that one. How about, "cute little puppy"?

I’m going with "Oy veh".
Comrade Stuck
Can you really picture Jonah Doughy Pantload roughing it in the forest with no Cheeseburgers or Baby Powder? I think not.
Bootlegger
@cleek: Wow, no one tackles the straw man like J. Goldberg. I hope he wears his helmet.
flounder
How about the thematic parallels between Red Dawn and Milk?
Anton Sirius
I love the Defiance ad with the voice-over saying "One man stood up to tyranny", with the heroically scruffy Daniel Craig on screen. It’s like they’re directly aiming for the RSSF demo, all of them fighting the good, lonely fight in front of their monitors.
Of course Daniel Craig isn’t as ruggedly handsome as, say, Hugh Hewitt, but who could be?
Bootlegger
@flounder: Is J. Goldgerg Harvey Milk?
canuckistani
Given that the state of Israel didn’t exist at the time the movie is set, wouldn’t the, er, ethnic nature of the partisans make them less sympathetic in the eyes of the RSSF?
And has anyone else noticed how easy it is to type Himmler’s title – RFSS (Reichsfuhrer SS) – when referring to the Red State clowns? Anyone wonder if the choice of letters was subconciously influenced?
The Moar You Know
@cleek: Goddamn you for posting that. I read it and have lost some IQ points as a result.
Jesus Fucking Christ, Doughy is one stupid human being.
Comrade Kevin
Jonah Goldberg is the Doughy Pantload of Liberal Fascism.

Willard: I don’t see any muscle tone at all, sir.

i don’t want to imagine that.
oops, too late.
Deliverance.

Why is it that the people who are given to swooning over Red Dawn are the same people who write that beating up on the Palestinians in Gaza or the Shiites in Hezballebanon is going get them to give up the fight?
Davis X. Machina
Game over.
Time for a new thread and a new keyboard.
Delia
The film Doughy’s looking for, glorifying white people in America, already exists.
Gus
My sentiments exactly.

I’ve been pretty far left for a good long time, and I love Red Dawn. Die Hard, too (but not the sequels). Watch ’em as often as I can.
(looks around furtively… ducks out quickly)
Comrade E.B. Misfit
Other than the small point that "Defiance" is based on real events and "Red Dawn" was the wet-dream of John Milius, you mean?
