Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Let there be snark.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

People are complicated. Love is not.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

“woke” is the new caravan.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Upon what teevee channel is this game?

    It’s on Vs.

I don’t want a long series and I don’t want a good series. I just want the Wings to put the dagger in now.

While it would be nice to see a series last longer than 4 games (only the Whale has managed to beat the Red Wings in the finals even once in the past 13 years), sometimes it just doesn’t seem necessary to delay the inevitable.

6 men on the ice ignored. But we all know how much the Wings subtly interfere and get away with it, so that’s A-OK.

Alright, so they probably didn’t see it, no reason to chalk up to malice what one can chalk up to incompetence.

Ok. A power play goal to tie it up. Go Pens! Oh, and OT…John, I was busy all day and just read your earlier rant. That is exactly why this is my favorite blog, bar none. Thank you for giving us this place. Keeps me sane. Seriously.

Here’s how observant I am: I didn’t realize the Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates all shared the same color scheme until I read it yesterday. I think that’s a cool idea.

I agree. This blog has a reader for life. No comment last year captured the tenor of any part of the election campaign as well as “I can no longer rationally discuss the Clinton campaign”.

    (go wings)

A good game so far – way too much hockey that’s over by the third period these days. Having said that, I’m going to jinx it, of course.

    June 2, 2009 at 9:44 pm

Was there a rule change in between periods? Are we just not allowed on their side of the ice in the second period?

  24. 24.

    [email protected]

    June 2, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Good period for the Wings even though they didn’t score.

  25. 25.

    June 2, 2009 at 9:51 pm

This next period should be really interesting. The Pens have to go all out or they are in danger of falling behind 3-0. I really don’t want to see this series end too soon. I sure hope I don’t end up getting nailed by the old “be careful what you wish for” jinx.

OT – I’ve been a lurker around here for quite awhile. I usually post on the Motley Moose, which is a progressive blog started by a bunch of people that got tired of the BS on MYDD back during the primaries. The blog roll over there has Balloon Juice at the top so I came over here to see what it was like. I’ve been a fan ever since. Nice blog with good writing and lots of good commenters.

Normally, I ignore these sport threads. But at this point, I have to ask, just how frickin’ often do these teams play each other anyway?

Jeeezwhiz-you’d think it was Man U v. Barcelona or something. :-)

    @recusancy:

No, not really. For some reason the lighting at Pittsburgh always makes the rink look a little bilious to me, and Dish Network’s Vs. feed isn’t quite as high-bandwidth as the local broadcast NBC, but the image seems okay.

Gotta say the Penguins seem to have figured out how to suppress the Detroit passing game. I don’t remember the Wings needing to dump nearly as often in the first two. Which makes this a pretty even game.

Here we go again. One of my least favorite things about the month of June is watching fucking Real Madrid tamper with every decent player who is under contract to somebody else. Last year it was Cristiano Ronaldo, this year it seems to be Kaka. At least today it seems to be Kaka – who knows who it will be tomorrow.

    Assholes.

Man, I bonked hard at the gym today. I made sure to drink a quart of diet PowerAde before I worked out so I’d have enough fluids in my system and I had my kick-ass “Butt Rock” playlist on the iPod and despite the warmth was rocking out on the elliptical trainer, but at 60 minutes “It’s a Long Way to the Top If Ya Wanna Rock and Roll” came on my iPod and I hit the wall. Now you may be wondering why, I mean this song has the greatest (and probably only) bagpipe solo of any rock song ever written. But unfortunately it wasn’t the AC/DC version, which would have been good for another few minutes on the trainer. No, it was the version Pat Boone did on the In a Metal Mood album.

Talk about hitting the wall. I tried skipping to the next track but the damage had been done and I stopped working out at 61 minutes. I’ve got to fix that playlist.

@Wile E. Quixote: At least it wasn’t Celine Dion doing AC/DC. I think you might have done more than hit the wall (literally).
