Well, I guess I can be happy that the Giants aren’t the biggest disappointment in the NFL this season.
I’m about 3 hours away from selling my ticket to next weeks Giants game to an Eagles fan friend of mine. Who wants to sit in the cold (and maybe rain or snow) to watch a meaningless game?

It’s very sweet for the Raiders fans.
I updated my facebook profile with the Raiders logo. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Look on the bright side: you’re not a Browns/Rams/Bucs fan.
Or a Gators fan.
Or a South Florida Bulls fan.

FUCK YES!!!!! RAIDERS BABY!!!!

I actually want the Browns and the Rams to play better. If only because I want the Bucs to have next April’s top draft pick. Oy.

I’m a Raider fan. The team hasn’t won more than 5 games in a season since before the (second) Iraq war. About all we have are games like this where the Raiders can at least make an impact on the season by beating a team that’s playing for something.
If I were a Steeler fan I’d be disgusted today too.

I think Peyton has a better ring to it.

Just because John is a little testy, he has to dis other teams.
The way this season is going though, I might not have to worry about game day snacks during the play offs. UGH

I currently have on the GA/GA Tech women’s basket ball game. That’s how much I don’t care about Giants v. Cowboys. And I grew up a Cowboys fan.

As much as I sympathize, I’m currently too riled up at Fox for yanking the NO/Washington game just as the Saints started their game-tying drive to put on SF at Seattle. I don’t care that I live in NorCal, this is Heidi-level crap. And at least Heidi had pigtails.
She could probably out-throw Alex Smith, too.

I put aside my recently adopted snotty attitude about American Football sporting contests (which was really just sour grapes wrt SF Bay Area football) to watch this one. Raider-Stillers game, can’t miss that.
My sincere condolence to Stillers fans everywhere.
But until the fourth quarter, I was getting ready to rave like an Al Davis madman about the NFL conspiracy against the Raiders. Purely on principle. But during the fourth quarter I regressed to the age of about, oh, eight, relieving the glory days of the rivalry.

Sadly, Dallas drew first blood. Let’s see wheter we get on the board before halftime.

AhabTRuler
@smiley: Opinions may very, but I thought the replay footage was inconclusive at best. But in the NFL, the standard for overturning a play moves about as much as the strike zone does in baseball.
I don’t think it’s any sort of conspiracy, I just think that NFL officiating is lax in some areas. I don’t object to replay, I just think that they should adopt professional referees as well.
Corner Stone

Hooray – a kindred spirit! I watched Duke – USC on my computer earlier today. A nice comeback win after the Women of Troy shot unconsciously from three in the first half.

Meanwhile, Tony Romo is very quietly having a nice game in December at New Giants Stadium.
23/30, 205 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs.
All he needs is another touchdown to really put some shine on it. And keep my fantasy team in the playoff hunt.
Bubba Dave
@Midnight Marauder: You asked, he delivered….
Go Cowboys!
Midnight Marauder
@Bubba Dave:
That’s what I’m talking about! Romo really is just starting to hit his stride this season, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the Giants’ secondary has been hurting recently.
Deep Thought: How do you ever justify hiring Eric Mangini to coach a football team, in any capacity, at any level ever again, let alone in the NFL?
Edit: Well hot damn. We got a ballgame in New York. Where has that Brandon Jacobs been all season?

21-17 Gmen. Here’s hoping the Giants can keep themselves together long enough to win.
D-Chance.
Keep doing something successful until your opponent can prove they can stop you.
The ‘Boys had a good formula when they had Julius Jones as their 1st half running back, then brought in Marion Barber in the middle of the 3rd to slash away at a then-tired defense.
They trade away Jones, draft another speedster in Felix Jones; but, have never returned to the formula of using their speed to tire the defense before sending in their “closer” in Barber to finish off games. Barber has never impressed me as a starter.
Tim
Jeebus. When the hell did the Steelers’ D have neuticles implanted? Who would think that we’d complain about the defense letting down the offense? Hmph.
dan robinson
Fer chrissakes, it is all about mind over matter.
It don’t fucking matter, and I don’t mind.
Bubba Dave
@D-Chance.: Barber is a pretty good back that Jerry paid like he was Emmitt the Second. I’d be fine with Jones, Choice, and a high-dollar free agent OL instead of Jones/Choice/Barber.
Ben Richards
@Midnight Marauder: Jacobs was my #1 pick this year. Needless to say, I am not in the playoffs this year…
Ben Richards
@Ben Richards: Oh yeah and Romo sucks. Also.
Giants all the way…

Hixon!
Midnight Marauder
Wow. Just…wow. What a fucking punt return by Dominic Hixon. What an incredible display of fundamentally poor tackling by the Cowboys. 79 yards. Amazing.
Lisa K.
I have no sympathy. The Pats are probably going to win the division and get squashed by Denver in the first round.
Ugh.
Tim
That punt return was sick. Just amazing.
D-Chance.
The Romoboys are on their way to a 5-11 record in December. Maybe the NFL can move the season up so that it runs from July through November?
D-Chance.
So… BCS predictions?
Alabama-Texas for the championship. Does the BCS committee match up Cincy, TCU, and Boise against each other, or do they set up 3 games featuring small undefeateds vs one-loss big schools?
I was actually hoping for Texas to lose last night so we could have a Alabama-Cincy championship, with Texas-TCU and Florida-Boise as lead-ins.
I still like Florida-Boise, although these big schools that don’t make the title games will often phone it in against what they consider to be “lesser” schools.

Fuckin’ A, man, where was this team the last 2 months?
I’d forgotten what it was like to jump out of my chair and pump my fist in the air over the Giants kicking ass.
parksideq
@D-Chance.: No way; football season conflicts enough with baseball season as is.
Next game, I would like to see the Giants get some more points out of their offense. The special teams are doing a helluva job tonight.
Ben Richards
@D-Chance.: The bowls make the picks. Alabama vs. Texas is likely according to the experts’ projections. Georgia Tech is in Orange and Florida is in the Sugar. Those are locked in. Rose is already set.
I think the Fiesta gets the first two picks. I read on CNNSI today that they have the ability to select two of the undefeated teams to set up their own battle of unbeatens.
I love the historical parallel of Texas going back to Pasadena as an underdog in the title game. No Vince this time though…

@D-Chance.:
I don’t think you get any kind of “BCS Buster Showdown” type matchup, and instead, you get the scenario you’re describing with the spoiler teams scattered throughout the landscape.
Rose Bowl (It’s locked it, but whatever.): Ohio State vs. Oregon
Sugar Bowl: Florida vs. Cincinnati
Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs. Iowa
Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. TCU (delicious.)
BCS National Championship: Alabama vs. Texas
Andy K
@D-Chance.:
After last night’s game against Nebraska, Texas deserves to drop in the polls. In what was basically a home game, in a climate-controlled stadium, the Longhorns needed a last second field goal? Meh.
I’d like to see Alabama-Cincy. I’ve been a big fan of Brian Kelly’s offensive schemes since he was at Grand Valley State (who, btw, is going to the D II Championship game again).

@Corner Stone:
I get that urge sometimes. Don’t have one in the area, but sometimes I get to jonesin’ specifically for an Arby’s sandwich.
Same thing with Whataburger (a Southern chain). Haven’t been to one in years, but I liked their mustard-oriented approach to burgers, as opposed to the usual mayonnaise/ketchup bias. I associate Whataburger with beach trips in Florida. Haven’t had one of those in years either. Sigh.
Ben Richards
@Andy K: Gotta look at the body of work. If Alabama Tennessee had been this weekend instead of 7 weeks ago, you would have to say the same thing.

Orange Bowl is going to be awesome, and Alabama is going to kick ass.
I thought Philip Rivers’ 135.3 rating last week was pretty good; this week it was 140.8. But Chargers still beat Cleveland by only 7 points. Oh oh.
AhabTRuler
@Steeplejack: I don’t disagree at all, but the replay call still was an example of the way the interpretation of “incontrovertible evidence” varies from game to game.

Relatively okay. Constantly (low-grade) pissed off at work, between the demanding, self-absorbed customers and the idiot manager from hell. Trying to focus on the positive, which is that the universe is clearly telling me I need to get the software/editorial side of the career ramped up again and just get out of the retail gig. For some reason that is much clearer and more urgent to me now than it has been over the last year. New Year’s resolution, etc. . . .

Well, it’s all set.
Cincy-Florida could be fun. The Bearcats have an offense that can keep up with the Gators. Georgia Tech and Iowa could be awesome. The only downside in the TCU-Boise matchup is the stigma that many fans will still attach to the winner (yeah, undefeated, but what BIG NAME schools did they beat?).
Now, the fun begins. Army-Navy next week. Fist bowl game the week before Christmas, then a frenzy over the next 3-4 weeks.
Andy K
@asiangrrlMN:
I’ve got mixed feelings about those Dolphins. The ’72 team played an unbelievably weak schedule (the combined record of their regular season opponents was 51-86-3, and only two of those posted 8 wins in a 14-game schedule), BUT they played a large chunk of the season with their second-string QB (Muskegon High’s Earl Morall), and despite their superior record, they played the AFC Championship game at Pittsburgh.
Oh, and with very few changes, the 12win-2loss ’73 Dolphins were probably a better team.
Bucky
@debit As a Vikings fan. . .I’m sorry. . .but I don’t take any pity on Steelers fans saying they can’t “put up with this shit” as if they’ve ever had to put up with anything.

“the Patriots also lost and the Cardinals probably will.”
After the shameful choke to the Fins (and if Belichick just TAKES the field goal instead of trying AGAIN on 4th down, the Pats win-this team could easily be 9-3 right now) the only redeeming feature of yesterday was watching Brett Favre’s ancient, narcissistic ass get kicked in the game of the week.
