Who knew (via Matt Yglesias)?
What Miley has that others don’t though, is a father who can get her through the Nashville gauntlet and into the club without paying any real dues. While it is nearly inevitable that she will one day take advantage of a country music plan B, the problem is that she could be a corrupting, left-leaning, influence on an industry that so many liberal elites want to see taken out of the “red state” column.
There is probably no conspiracy to use her in this way, and there is no Star Chamber that will teach her a secret handshake and give her marching orders. If she tries her hand at being a country star, an Alinski friendly media culture will simply reward her efforts, because she is one of them.
Probably no conspiracy, though. That’s a relief.
The Populist
My brain hurts…like there isn’t a conspiracy amongst these elitist right wingers to force their crappy ideals down all of our throats?

Leftist? Miley Cyrus? Never thought of her that way.
All I know is that, after spending 40 dollars on Hannah Montanna crap for my niece’s birthday last year, Miley Cyrus must really love capitalism.
MikeJ
Isn’t that in itself a bit of cart before the horse-ism? One of the points of Rules was dealing with and changing the culture you have, not the culture you wish you had. If the media is friendly to Alinski inspired actions he told people to be media friendly.

I do hope Breitbart spends all his resources running down important stories like this.

Fox news likes hotties in skimpy clothes, so maybe they will pick it up. And the US will be saved.

Haha, yet the most popular movie in America was produced by raging liberals (How To Train Your Dragon) and has a theme of kindness to those that are different from us.
The #2 film was a violent, children in danger superhero film in which one of the leads (who is 11) curses up a storm.
#3 – Date Night stars two of the most liberal comedians in Hollywood.
I can go on and on. When cons make movies nobody goes to see them. Mel Gibson’s anti-semitic Jesus film is the one exception EXCEPT he’s a democrat believe it or not.
The Populist
Oh….the right claim to succeed in publishing yet nobody ever admits that think tanks buy most of the copies to keep them on the best seller lists.
Television is owned by majority conservative companies yet the most popular shows involve violence, potty humor, etc. Seems weird that conservative tv station owners broadcast such supposedly “liberal” nonsense.
Really, Breitfart? People don’t want what you are peddling. If you think your revolution is so strong explain how the dems took control and a black democrat won the presidency over a maverick and your darling little con icon?

A taste of what might be pissing off Breitfart regarding Ms Cyrus:
Miley: I believe that EVERYONE deserves to be happy. That’s all I’m saying ;)
Perez: A lot of controversy over your answer, which is silly. I think you answered the question better than Miss California!
Miley: What was her answer??? Cause what I said is the truth. Everyone deserves to love and be loved and most importantly smile :)
Miley: thx! U know what I get crap for whatever I do but you asked me an honest question and I gave an honest answer! So whatevs!!! :)
Perez: I’m sad that people use God and religion as an excuse 2 hate, discriminate and deny gays & lesbians full equality under the law.

@The Populist: Exactly The left is losing the culture war only if you let the right define what culture is. Radio? Seriously…… Radio is past tense in terms of defining culture.
As you note, television, movies, theater, music– just about every medium that doesn’t depend upon ranting and screaming–seems to be dominated by liberals (and their values). I guess creativity, empathy and humor are simply incompatible with conservatism
Zifnab
@The Populist: Willie Nelson is a pothead first, last, and always. The Obama thing is incidental.
The Main Gauche of Mild Reason
I have a number of “serious conservative” friends, and amazingly this narrative is the thing that irks them and is the issue they’re most concerned about– the “social marginalization of conservative values”. Where, of course, “conservative values” are defined sufficiently vaguely to constitute basically ANYTHING.
It’s the weirdest kind of marginalization I’ve ever seen. They’re not politically disadvantaged, economically, employment-wise, electorally, etc–as far as I can tell, the extent of the marginalization is that someone, somewhere (not anyone near where they live, most likely hollywood or NYC or San Francisco) has a poor opinion of them and likes to make fun of them. It totally mystifies me, but it definitely makes Republicans batshit crazy for some reason.

And he was waiting to pay for a set of bright pink Hannah Montana brand roller skates for girls, ages 6-12.
If I had laughed out loud, I probably wouldn’t be alive today to post this comment. I hope his daughter or niece had a nice Xmas.

Pretty impressive… like, five separate Dixie Chick complaints, and two mentioning Natalie Maines by name! I like how he bitched about the Dixie Chicks winning Grammy awards for writing “anti-Bush ditties” (never mind that “Not Ready To Make Nice” was hardly anti-Bush; kind of more anti-death-threat-making-wingnut-assholes), and then pronounced them “a failure” in the very next sentence.

Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore
John Prine
While digesting Reader’s Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I’d tell her how good I feel.
Chorus:
But your flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven any more.
They’re already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don’t like killin’
No matter what the reason’s for,
And your flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven any more.
Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
“If you join the Christmas club
We’ll give you ten of them flags for free.”
Well, I didn’t mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife’s forehead.
Repeat Chorus:
Well, I got my window shield so filled
With flags I couldn’t see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead.
And I’ll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said…
“But your flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven any more.
We’re already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don’t like killin’
No matter what the reason’s for,
And your flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven any more.”

What about Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Toby Keith? The Dixie Chicks were far from an aberration, Sinclair and Clear Channel just made it seem that way.
The “Bluegrass Star” who endorsed Obama was Dr. Ralph Stanley, a 84 year old lifelong democrat. Stanley is Virginia native and the deeply religious dean of Bluegrass music, and when he and Andy Griffith endorsed Obama I knew it was all over.
Brietbart is showing how little he really knows about about rural culture when he assumes all country artists must be republicans.
