I love ThinkProgress but I wish they wouldn’t go there:
During a press conference earlier today, House Republican leader John Boehner was asked about MSNBC host Joe Scarborough’s accusation that “every Republican I talk to says John Boehner, by 5 or 6 o’clock at night, you can see him at bars.” When asked if there was “any truth” to that allegation, Boehner dodged the question entirely and instead argued that he’s hard at work doing fundraisers for his colleagues:[…..]
Perhaps Boehner’s attempts to highlight his hard fundraising work for fellow Republicans is an effort to keep them from speaking out about their knowledge of Boehner’s personal habits.
This kind of thing is a zero sum game, at best. If Boehner takes heat for drinking, pretty soon Dana Milbank will do a “One Too Many Beer Summits For Brewack Obombeda?” piece and we will be facing a “teachable moment” about the evils of the demon rum. Nobody wants that.
