Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

All your base are belong to Tunch.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

This blog will pay for itself.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

I wonder if the glibertarians at Reason, who got very excited over drawing cartoons of Mohammed, will embrace this:

On September 11, 2010, the extremist evangelical Dove World Church — whose pastor, Terry Jones, has written a book called “Islam Is Of The Devil” — plans to host “International Burn A Quran Day,” when it will burn Muslims’ sacred text and encourage others across the world to do so as well. Churchmember Wayne Sapp has even posted an instructional video that explains how and why to burn the Islamic text.

Why not! I mean, it’s just a book, right, glibertarians?

This Quran burning/Everyone Draw Mohammed nonsense is the same kind of idiotic warblogger bullshit that I succumbed to for so long. “Hey, let’s really protest and show them who is boss- we’ll burn their holy books! What that you say? Enlist? Volunteer army bitches! Plus, I wear a lapel pin.”

Out here in the west we have a whole class of citizens that we call snakepokers.
They come in to urgent care with a snakebite and their story is always the same….they were jogging or cycling, just exercising their peaceful constitutional right to freedom of exercise, and the snake jumped out and bit them!
….but….the snake bite is always on their hand or wrist.
so obviously these peaceful free exercise advocates had picked up a stick and were snakepoking.

The guy is just a huckster. A while back I posted something here about this church having kids wear ‘Islam is from the devil’ t-shirts to school. I heard from someone at the Muslim Students Council that Jones was trying to raise money because the banks denied him a mortgage or something and he was pulling all kinds of stunts – one was calling the mayer a ‘homo’ or something. Redstate will set up a paypal account for him when they find out; donations will pour in.

More insidious bigotry is much more sophisticated, like the ADL’s coming out against the mosque near ground zero.

I think you misread my comment, or I possibly was not very clear.
I’m not attempting to define Islam the religion. As I used the phrase IMO twice it should be clear I am objecting to the description offered of “Because an oppressive, intolerant religion”.
Whatever Islam means to people is of course personal in nature. I happen to object to Islam being described the way it was, and mildly suggested it was not a great way to discuss it.
So, I may not know what Islam is, but IMO I feel this is not it.

Of course, these bigoted assholes have the right to express their bigotted assholeness in this way, foolish and provocative bullshit that it is.

First Amendment and all that. Just as those of us who recognize it for the foolish and unhelpful bullshit that it is have the right to call them out on it and condemn them for being bigotted assholes.

And that’s the point where the rightwing nimrods like Palin get it all wrong and accuse those of us responding to their nonsense (on whatever topic) as somehow interfering with their First Amendment rights.

Criticism of them equals abrogation of their free speech rights. No doubt a number of the more clever among them (Limbaugh) making this ridiculous argument know it is bullshit, but others (Palin) truly are dimwitted and/or pig-ignorant enough to actually believe that. Here in SB1070 land I work with both types.

Again, glad that John had his road to Damascus conversion from darkness to the light, even if it was a gradual awakening and not a lightning strike epiphany-thing.

The very Reverend Terry Jones clarifies: this Koran burning is a kind of religious welcome wagon for Muslims.

    Neat!

These silly liberals always get excited over nothing.

‘ In a recent interview with CNN’s Rick “The List” Sanchez, Jones said that the book burning was all part of his plan to welcome Muslims to American while simultaneously reminding them that their faith is an evil thing that must be destroyed at all costs (or, saving that, desecrated publicly in the name of Jesus.)

“We have nothing against Muslims,” Jones told Sanchez. “They are welcome in our country.” ‘

Prescience from Eric Hoffer in 1951:

“The Americans are poor haters in international affairs because of their innate feeling of superiority over all foreigners. An American’s hatred for a fellow American (for Hoover or Roosevelt) is far more virulent than any antipathy he can work up against foreigners. It is of interest that the backward South shows more xenophobia than the rest of the country. Should Americans begin to hate foreigners wholeheartedly, it will be an indication that they have lost confidence in their own way of life.”

    And from Hoffer also:

A friend of mine used to keep around a New Testament he was handed once, and every time he needed a bookmark for a real book, he’d tear a page out and use it, then throw it away.

    @Morbo:

OK, time to listen to some Tyr.

TYR — Faroe Islands Viking Metal band (I take it you don’t mean the Ozzy-less Black Sabbath album of that name).

Heard them at the Paganfest here in Sheriff Joe Arpaio land last year. They look the part (while I, sadly, don’t). Hope to see them again someday.

TYR — along with Amon Amarth from Sweden — are my usual gym IPod-fare (iron-pumping sessions, of course). Seems to help, what with the aging and attendant loss of testosterone and all.

“When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a bible”

I am reminded of my trip to Egypt years ago. We visited a particular temple where the faces of all of the stone reliefs of the gods were chipped away. I asked our tour guide why this was and she stated that early Christians believed it was a sign of devotion to vandalize the “pagan” symbols, thereby destroying historical artifacts in the their pathetic attempt to show devotion to “thier” god. It is akin to the demolition of those iconic statues in Afghanistan by the Taliban. Religion is nothing more than gang warfare, with the latest gang painting over the symbols of the gang that owned the territory previously. It is utterly pathetic and shows the very worse of the human condition.

Again, gotta love Google. Tried to be garden-variety nut and entered “Islam sucks.”

791,000 hits, including Facebook which hosts an Islam Sucks page.

I’m taking a very long bubble bath now courtesy of Lush.

Sorry. I just don’t see any equivalence to the Draw a Picture of the Prophet kerfluffle.

Nor do I think that the morans at Reason have any particular need to respond to this. This kind of stupidity is everybody’s responsibility.

Where is this thing being held? I would gladly be willing to throw in for a stack of Bibles to be thrown on a pyre next to the other burning holy books. I’ll also add a couple of crosses and an American flag.

Oh the sweet stench smell of American fascism.
