Heading out to the airport- some quick things.
1.) Solar flares are making the northern lights visible tonight. Anyone in the region want to snap some pics and mail them to me? I think they are beautiful.
2.) My friend slipped me this album by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and it is right up my alley. Here’s a sample:
That’s some pretty raunchy brass. Love it.
3.) Happy to have E. D. Kain aboard. Welcome, Erik!
4.) Going to miss the piglets while I am gone. Not sure if I will be able to sleep without the three lumps around me.
Take care!

have a safe trip! we’ll miss you!

Travel safely, have fun, and believe me…it’ll feel weird sleeping alone for the first night, and then you’ll relish having the entire bed to yourself.

@John: Safe travels and have fun!
@RedKitten: How’s the throat? Feeling better?
matoko_chan
/sigh
you do realize that Kain is a “ABORTION IS TEH FETUS-SLAVERY” brand of retard don’t you?
why do you hate us?
RedKitten
@SiubhanDuinne: Yes, it finally started feeling better on Sunday. It was hellish for awhile, though. I had to go five entire days without coffee, because drinking it was too painful.
@makoto_chan: nothing wrong with having a pro-lifer on here. Diversity of thought is a good thing, as long as everybody can respect everybody else’s right to have a point of view.
Violet
Safe trip, John. RedKitten is right, after the first night you’ll love having all that space in the bed.

@matoko_chan: I thought slavery was good for modern Republicans?

Safe trip, Cole. What’s the probability you’ll drive your house sitter crazy with calling? “Are they okay? Do they miss me? Hold the phone up to Lily so I can tell her good night.”

Now, to the most important question of all…
WHO THE HELL IS CRITTER SITTING??? THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION! WE MUST KNOW AND APPROVE! HOW COULD YOU NOT RUN THIS BY US FIRST?
Now that I have that off my chest, have a good time and safe travels, Cole.
Morbo
Well, one piece of good news came out of last night: no matter what happens in November we won’t be saddled with Governor Hoekstra.
R-Jud
Woo-hoo, the solar burp! I was hoping to get shots of the northern lights last night, but, as usual, cloud cover set in right around sunset. It’s starting to clear up now; hopefully it will stay clearish tonight.
If the weather cooperates, I’ll head up to our local lookout and take a few pictures.
matoko_chan
@RedKitten:
i don’t object to pro-lifers with non-cretinous arguments..there don’t seem to be any…. The fetus=black slave argument is the apocalypse of conservative retardism and should mortally offend any sapient….especially coming from the party of intransigent unrepentant racists.
Kain is simply woefully undergeared to post here. His intellectual armor is composed entirely of welfare epics and auction house greens.
roshan from the other thread.
btw, eemom—–you owe Assange an apolo.
he did keep back 15k docs to be redacted.

Have a fun and safe trip, Cole! And, don’t worry, I’m sure the board will take gooooood care of Kain.

Dirty dozen brass band is great, they are playing a few shows here in montana next week, I am excited to see them

And, it looks like the hooligan(ette)s are already out.
John
Just saw the Dirty Dozen Brass Band a couple weeks ago. Very fun concert.

@Morbo:
Well, that didn’t make the Today Show, so it’s not important.
What really IS important, however, is the fact that…OH, NOES!…the Johnston/Palin nuptuals are apparently called off…again.

Safe and fun travels, John! It’s always hard for me to leave my kitties even though we have a reputable house sitter who takes good care of them. And I always miss being awakened at all hours of the morning by cats who want breakfast extra early.
@Morbo:
Amen to that. Don’t know much about Hire Rick, the CEO guy the Repubs nominated. Probably just another business guy that thinks he can run a state government by virtue of his business experience. Hah!
Edit: Happy 49th birthday, Mr. President!

Happy trails JC. Good luck with the strange bed and lack of furballs. Don’t count on the commmentariat behaving tho.

Have fun at [undisclosed location], John!
If you’re missing the experience of sleeping with your piglets, I recommend:
1) Place pillows strategically around you in the bed. Weight them with shoes, books or anything else heavy or lumpy so they force you into an uncomfortable sleeping position.
2) Before you get into bed, call room service and ask for a bowl of fresh, hot oatmeal. When it arrives, blindfold yourself, turn around until you get dizzy, then dump the oatmeal on the carpet in a random location.
3) Drink several glasses of water before getting into bed with your weighted pillows. When you get up at 2 AM to pee like a racehorse, see if you manage to step in the oatmeal. If you don’t, order two bowls the next night.
Have fun!

Did anyone get to see auroras last night? Here in the Catskills/Hudson River Valley it was too cloudy.

I’m sure that the Global Warming Scientists can fabricate enough facts to attribute the more frequent & much larger solar flares to Global Warming.

1. Have fun Cole. Maybe the pets will take over blogging duties while you’re gone.
2. How far south is the display supposed to be visible? I’m outside of D.C. and know they’ve been visible in southern Indiana at roughly the same latitude.
3. I assume Palin sees polar lights from her yard all of the time, so we can expect her expert explanation of how solar flares interact with the earth’s atmosphere to create this phenomenon. (“It’s a gosh darn sign from God, you betcha!”)

@geg6: This is exactly what I stopped by this a.m. to say. Do we have references. Who vetted this person.
BTW, Yutsanto has 2 nice recipes up on my blog. /blog whore
Oh, and have a good trip Mr. Cole. Though since you refuse to tell us where, why would we care?
Jinx
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Widespread Panic did a mean version of Walk on Gilded Splinters that is well worth a listen. I’m not sure which band is credited and which is featured but I highly recommend it.
Safe travels.

Don’t know if you’re traveling for business or pleasure (maybe both) but have a good time and a safe journey.

Been a fan of the Dirty Dozen since the 80’s…they are great. I got into them back when they were still using a separate bass drum and snare instead of a drum kit (those were the days). Go see them live if you can as they are bunches of fun in concert. If you want a really rocking CD, get “Live: Mardi Gras in Montreux.”

Hey, glad you liked the song. I made and posted that video on YouTube as part of a series of blog posts I’m doing on how New Orleans musicians are expressing themselves and their experiences in Hurricane Katrina. In just a few days it will be the 5th anniversary of that catastrophe, so I thought a study of local music would help me and others prepare. I posted videos of several New Orleans bands, but if you like brass bands, check out the post about Bonerama and their song, “Mr. Go.”
Peace,
