Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

All hail the time of the bunny!

American history and black history cannot be separated.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Accountability, motherfuckers.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Republicans do not trust women.

Fight them, without becoming them!

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

There’s a link to Balloon Juice’s very own ActBlue page over there on the right-hand column —->, and we’re making good progress towards what Cole labelled “a very ambitious goal”. As a jumpstart, here’s an ad from one of the candidates we’re targetting, Scott McAdams:

Thanks to commentor Linda Featheringill for the link. I admit to a bias in favor here, because my mother-in-law is Norwegian-born. In the thirty-plus years we’ve been acquainted, she has never actually cursed me out, because she doesn’t need profanity to obtain compliance. But I will attest that the experience builds character.

What restrictions are there on foreign donations? I’m from the UK and would like to hand over the bucks, but not sure if I’m allowed to. Are there different rules for individual candidates as opposed to the DCCC? cheers

I love this ad. I think it highlights one of McAdams’ biggest strengths, which is that he’s a native Alaskan and has personal experience in a real, and tough, Alaskan industry, the fishing industry. It’s funny and folksy and I hope a lot of Alaskans will feel like they know people like him and will as a result feel comfortable with him.

It contrasts really well with Miller’s out of state background and high-falutin’ Yale law degree.

I still haven’t donated to the Act Blue page, but will do it before month’s end (today or tomorrow) and am happily surprised to see how well it’s doing. Go Balloon-Juice!

Does anyone know if an individual contribution is always reported to the FEC regardless of the amount donated? For work reasons, I would like to keep my name anonymous.

    thanks

    Good ad. I like him.

Will be donating again tomorrow. It’s pay day, which every two years means donate to Act Blue Day.

Scott has some good photos to go along with the ad.

I don’t know about polling in Alaska. I have read that it is a difficult territory to accurately poll.

Rasmussen has rushed in where angels fear to tread but I have a problem with the results. According to their polls, Lisa’s write-in vote will take a chunk out of Scott’s votes and leave Miller’s alone. Not sure I can believe that.

Anyway, all senate seats are gratefully accepted. Here’s hoping.

It’s a great ad; also, Alaska has a very high bang-for-buck ratio. Definitely worth giving some to McAdams.

OT, but Breitbart’s protege is too stupid for words:

This is a goodie. Miller is weak on a lot of things, like Social Security.

Speaking of Social Security, how about a little love for that ad Rachel Maddow talked about last night? Or did I miss that post? If I did, I withdraw my comment.

    @bluehill:
I think they have to report anything over $200, but that’s cumulative. So, $20 here and $10 there, if it adds up to $200, then it gets reported. I’m not sure if this is true for all candidates or what, but that’s what I remember.

    I found this:

If you contribute more than $200 to a committee, the committee is required to use its best efforts to collect and publicly disclose on a financial report your name, address, occupation and employer, as well as the date and amount of your contribution. Committees sometimes request this information even for smaller contributions, since the $200 reporting threshold applies to your total contributions to one committee during a calendar year. For example, you may make several small contributions to a committee during a year. Once these contributions add up to over $200, the committee must report the contributor information.

My problem with this is the collection they put together for “seduction”. Dildos, condoms etc to seduce people to show she’s an airhead? Wow. What a seriously creepy guy. When will he get sued?

Great ad huh? Thank god Act Blue stepped up to the plate because as far as I know the National Demo Senate Committee although begged for support hasnt contributed any money at all! That and the tea party is suppose to ride into town Monday to save the day for their candidate Miller. Scott is a dream candidate that actually knows the issues, works hard and knows he can win! Balloon Juice has it right again. Lets hope the national demo committee is saddling up too.

@geg6: I read that earlier this morning. Certainly one seriously screwed up individual, and you get the sense that if he put his “seduction” plan into effect, the most likely result would be him getting a couple of good squirts of pepper spray into the eyes.

Granted, I’d like to see the video of that.

I don’t want to lead the race to the bottom here, but wouldn’t O’Keefe have to be at least a tiny bit, you know, attractive to have a shot at pulling something like that off? I’m a straight male, so maybe whatever he’s got going on doesn’t work on me, but my wife thinks he looks like something Skeletor’s dog puked up.

I’d love to give, but I can’t. Eddie’s going back to the hospital to have parts of two toes amputated, due to infection. It just never ends for the poor guy.
