Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

In my day, never was longer.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Come on, man.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

The revolution will be supervised.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Consistently wrong since 2002

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

That was a moment of pure joy…

John wrote about Elizabeth Warren’s appearance on Morning Joe earlier. The video is must see teevee as is the You Tube clip that Anne posted in the early morning hours where Warren pushes back on the whole “Class War” bullshit .

My favorite part of the appearance on Morning Joe was her body language as she endured the high wankerism of George Carlin plagiarizer Mike Barnicle. “Mike” was going on and on about how it was only fair for heavily Democratic Massachusetts to have at least one Republican Senator for balance or some such crapola and that Warren running was going to upset Mike’s sense of order. The look on her face as this well-connected hack droned on and on and on was priceless:

Warren-endures-Barnicle

And then she took him apart in her answer. Awesome. All of it was awesome.

All this inspired me to contribute to her campaign. I went here to do it. So can you.

Cheers

Where can we get more Democratic candidates like this? (Realizing that she’s unique, and has spent years studying middle class economic issues.)

I think this clip from MJ is the first time I have watched her speak at any length, and certainly on general politics as a candidate for high office. I knew she was smart, but am blown away by her polished handling of the idiots on MJ, and seeming to enjoy it. As did I

Just an all around impressive lady, and the wonders I had about her making it as a politician in that ring of fire, have been profoundly answered. This lady has it all, and I agree with Mnem about the timeline for advancement of Mrs. Warren’s new career. And that big ass cup of coffee she took a snort from was all win.

This is what Obama, Dems, Sane Republicans, and the country are up against with the tea party.

The House on Wednesday voted to reject a Continuing Resolution that would keep the government funded after September 30, priming Washington yet again for the possibility of a government shutdown if Congress is unable to agree on terms.

The $1.043 trillion Continuing Resolution, which failed by a vote of 195-230, with 48 Republicans voting against it and six Democrats voting for it, would have kept the government running past the end of the fiscal year on September 30th through November 18th had it passed.

That’s 48 crazy motherfuckers that can bring on the Apocalypse if they want, or at least turn the US into a feudal wasteland.

The House is a fully majoritiarian body, and the fact that the GOP leadership cannot get the GOP votes to pass it’s own legislation, is very worrisome, and tripled so that it involves keeping the federal government running. 8:51 A convoy of troopers in at least 15 cars arrived to join their colleagues at the site. Meanwhile, officials from the Atlanta University Center and Savannah State University asked their students at the protest to return to their buses to return to their respective campuses. The departure of at least three busloads of students appeared to reduce the crowd by about a third or more…………….
8:38 As prison officials, family members, and other interested people awaited word from the U.S. Supreme Court on whether the execution of Davis should proceed tonight, more than a dozen Georgia state troopers in riot gear marched in military formation to place themselves between the protesters and other officers in paramilitary gear outside the prison. They were met by choruses of “Shame on you” from the protesters.

The Daily Beast reports that Mitt Romney, while head of the Republican Governor’s Association, was personally aware of a $1 million donation from a Texas homebuilder to Rick Perry’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign and that he discussed it with Perry’s campaign aides. The final installment was personally delivered to Perry by one of Romney’s top aides.

That donation was found to have violated Texas election-disclosure law. A Texas judge ruled last year the arrangement violated the law’s intent to “limit undue influence over elections and fully disclose information related to contributions and expenditures for elections in this state.”

Thomas is irrelevant. They need 5 votes to grant a stay and I seriously doubt that anybody expects Thomas to be the tie-breaker on the side of humanity.

They only need 4 votes to grant an appeal — which, of course, would be useless if there’s no stay.

This is one of those days I am so very proud to be an officer of the court.

@Baud (and also @General Stuck): I am still not sure why Boehner is speaker. Despite my initial skepticism based on, oh, all the history and evidence, it’s become clear that the Tea Party really isn’t just a marketing campaign of the Republican party. Its members are willing to run against and vote against Republicans, and as this vote (again) shows, Tea Partiers in the House won’t even vote for the Republican bills.

So, Boehner’s party doesn’t control a majority of the House. I don’t think he even has the plurality, if the Tea Party is treated as a third party.

Sure it was, until the lunatics took over the asylum. The problem in trying to co-opt crazy people as your cannon fodder is that, well, they’re crazy. Boehner’s a weak speaker dealing with a bunch of nutjobs who can’t be easily bought (guess those earmarks would’ve come in handy at this point?) and are too stupid, ideologically addled and wet behind the ears to negotiate with normally.

You know those people at work who you can’t deal with like normal people, they have to be “handled?” Try a roomful of them.

I don’t know if it gets mentioned often, but Barnicle is slimy in the extreme about his background, conveniently forgetting where he came from (Fitchburg, MA) so as to appear more urbane… except, of course, when it suits him in order to appear as a “tuff” workin’-class dude. He actually deigned to come back out to speak at an event a decade+ ago surrounding my high school graduation in Fitchburg (when specially invited) (Oh! I’ve got pix!), and ended his brief speech by letting the assembled crowd know that he had to run out early because he had tickets to see Pedro Martinez pitch against Roger Clemens at Fenway that night. Wotta guy.

Now I have an even greater incentive to get my finances under control so I can contribute to Warren’s Senate campaign.

She’s great, but I’m afraid that if she pisses them off or embarrasses them, they’re never going to let her on tv again. They are, actually, the gatekeepers. If they don’t want her on, she’s not getting on.

Maybe they’re not attentive enough of the person they’re (supposedly) interviewing to read her expression. Barnicle certainly looks pleased with himself, like he’s completely unaware that her expression indicates she thinks he’s a babbling hack who’s talking to hear his own voice.

I’ll just comfort myself with their complete and utter self-absorption, and hope that they don’t catch on.

THEY might not, but others will. She’s gonna be a phenomenon.

And since we’re on the subject, when did “not pissing off the wankers” become the first priority of Dem politicians?
