Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

How You Gonna Go?

This post is in: Music, Open Threads, Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated?

AWOL describes me to a T.  Nothing like a crappy week at work (but no complaints — for real; I got work) + a break for some enforced remembrance to kill the blogging impetus.

Not to mention that the cycle of dangerous mood swings brought on by living within a class war is making it hard to focus on writing sweet reason. It’s plain tiring to watch the neo-feudalists as they advance their attempt to envassal and enserf* us all.

So it was that this very new version of an old song heard while driving this a.m. seemed terribly threatening:  if this becomes the soundtrack of our day, as it was of a London I lived in all those years ago, hard times are going to get  harder.  Can’t say it won’t though.  Listen:

<div align=”center” ><iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/RjZAsObkkdI” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

__

And how about a bonus track — the Clash original:

__

<div align=”center”><iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/hiQoq-wqZxg” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

That about captures my mood today.  You?  As per usual, I suspect you may consider this an open thread.

*F’w’at we blog if not to coin neologisms.[Or not. See Arrik’s correction.]

I for one am fine with the front pagers here taking time off from blogging. You deserve a life and we are still getting our money’s worth.

Besides, there’s always The Daily Dish.

My frequent campaign work theme song since ’04 has been “Clampdown.” Helps keep the nutjobs from getting me down.

If the Occupy WallStreet folks have evolved a heads down style of leadership, it makes it harder for the police to know whose door to kick in, doesnt’ it?

I’m trying to think of a song that describes the mood of Red Sox Nation, and frankly I’m drawing a blank. It would combine death metal and Morrissey lyrics, with punk stylings and lots and lots of painful piercings inflicted on management. Jeesh, it’s been kind of fun to watch the sharp knives come out, and I’m a huge Sox fan. I’m rooting for Tampa to go all the way now. The baseball gods have smited Boston and smiled upon the Rays, even though their fans suck and don’t deserve them.

When the Revolution comes, I will support the appointment of Tom Levenson as Arts & Sciences minister of the provisional government.

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my Russian great-grandfather, a quiet, gentle man who liked to play chess and talk of revolution. I always regretted that I never knew him as he was a legendary figure in my family.

The song on my mind today is Fleet Foxes’ Helplessness Blues: “What good is it to sing helplessness blues, why should I wait for anyone else?” And how apt is this part: “I don’t need to be kind to the armies of man that would do such injustice to you. Or sit down and be grateful and say, ‘Sure, take all that you see,’ to the men who walk only in dimly lit halls and determine my future for me.”

Cold and rainy in the Buckeye today, if the trees weren’t still mostly green I’d be gassing up the snowblower, ’cause the lake effect kicked in heavy this morning. Good day/night to stay inside, cuddle with comfort (food, spouse, whiskey) and run the quarterly reports.

    @ Tom:

Yeah, they just sounded too legit to be true neologisms. My favorite in this category is beclown, which the rightbloggers were pushing a few years back. It strikes me as a great word, genuinely useful in certain situations, though I worry it is permanently tainted by its recent champions.

No one goes to see them play – when the Sox play there, if you’re not watching but just listening, there’s as many Sox fans as Rays fans. As if there weren’t enough reasons to despise Florida.

@Fucen Pneumatic Fuck Wrench Tarmal: I dunno. I kinda like it, because I admire anything that gets a lefty viewpoint out into the mass consciousness. And I’m not that worried about uniformity or coherence of message. But I’m slightly worried that some infiltrator will push it over into something violent.

@FlipYrWhig: “We got sold out, they got bailed out” is the predominant chant at the march. Pretty simple message, IMO. Who knows what will happen except that we now know it is incorrect to say “Americans will never get out on the streets”.

Any real attempts to dismantle Social Security may meet with more resistance than the Beltway crowd imagined.

It was once reported (a year or two ago, maybe longer) that Obama had gathered the heads of the major banks and told them, point-blank, that he was the only thing standing between them and the pitchforks.

    They snickered.

i’d like to see them take the often written advice to dress like its friday at the office, it shouldn’t matter, but it does, as far as getting the message into the media machine.

    October 1, 2011 at 4:06 pm

@FlipYrWhig: I’m less worried about the violence at this point, but I’m concerned that some idiot will decide to build on this protest and try to emulate the 1968 Democratic convention fiasco, or something like that. But we’ll see. I don’t like negative speculation, so I’m going to remain optimistic.

@Fucen Pneumatic Fuck Wrench Tarmal: Down in the Max in Fog thread, Singfoom posted a manifesto from the Occupy Wallstreet folks. You might take a gander, it seems pretty solid to me. And nicely lefty. Clash is a great band for a revolution.

@kdaug: That’s great! I was thinking something similar the other day.

Dunno about a song, but this game was sweet revenge for this Orioles fan who is sick of Red Sox and Yankees fans coming into my stadium and rooting for the other team. I wish I had been there to watch the O’s nail their collapse to the wall.

Crawl back to Boston and stay there.
