Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

In my day, never was longer.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Giving up is unforgivable.

Another couple of hours and then beer.

For you Jewish commenters, the ninth day of Tishrei ends at sunset. That means that today’s the day to make amends! If any of you think that you’re pure as driven snow then you can start by apologizing for that.

I might as well lead off. It sucks that my blogging tapered way off in the last year or two. I can’t promise that I will do a lot better – work. life. yadda. – but I will try to write stuff more substantial than pics of my dog once in a while.

Speaking of which.

Ten days of awe are hardly enough to handle my reflection and atonement needs. Therefore, I start off atoning for all that which I failed to atone for.

Oh, and from tomorrow’s haftorah: Isiah 58 v. 6-7. I strive for same; rarely achieve it with whole mind, and take atonement for that lapse as the challenge to improve on my performance over the next year.

My mother informed me the other day that their Vet’s (a doberman fanatic) doberman is having a litter in a month. She was wondering if I would be interested in a puppy. I am in all states of indecision. A Doberman, A German Shepherd Dog, and a Siamese Cat would make quite an entourage.

If I remember correctly, DoughJ has to step in and do a thoughtful post. You need to keep the blog balance. This is how I see the bloggers here: (Tim F: sensible, thoughtful, and responsible for organizing when an issue is before the congress. DougJ (or whatever he’s called this week) is for trolling and doom and gloom scenarios with amusing titles. John: disappearance, drunk posts, GG imitation (meant to create the maximum flame wars) , pet porn with occasional thoughtful posts. Kay: local organizing and issues focused.

I’m torn. Tomorrow, I could go to the Gophers/St Cloud hockey game followed by a reception for the team (a lot less formal than it sounds) or go to the Second Annual Nerd Fest, thrown by Single Nerds at Heart. I’m steamed that they are at the same time.

The bees have won Round One.

The hive turns out to be inside a metal box embedded in the ground (probably an old irrigation control box that wasn’t removed when the neighborhood was developed in the 1960s). The best way to get it open is to remove a number of bolts that have a half century of rust on them. If that doesn’t work, it may be necessary to get in their with a power saw and cut off the top of the box.

The invaders have withdrawn behind their lines to plot strategy and to bring up their most formidable siege-works. For the moment, the indigenous population remains in its ancestral stronghold.

    Stay tuned.

And you’d think that Bud Selig, of all people, would be aware of Jewish holidays. But MLB has never tried especially hard to avoid Yom Kippur, which is why there are famous stories about Jewish players sitting it out. To wit:

Come Yom Kippur–holy fast day wide-world over to the Jew-
And Hank Greenberg to his teaching and the old tradition true
Spent the day among his people and he didn’t come to play.
Said Murphy to Mulrooney, “We shall lose the game today!

But he’s true to his religion–and I honor him for that!”

I think sweet, sweet mockery is the right way to go. Remember that WBC is basically a bunch of grifters who make money by provoking people into attacking them and then suing them for damages. Things that make them look evil help to provoke the attacks and thus help the grift. Mockery just makes them look stupid and pathetic, which is the exact opposite of their desired effect.
