Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

When we show up, we win.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

We are aware of all internet traditions.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Let there be snark.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Had to leave the BBQ in a rush because my brother is at Steeler’s Fantasy Camp and was chatting with Tunch Ilkin, and my brother mentioned that Tunch was named after him and wanted to see a pic, so I had to race home and take a picture of Tunch (the cat) in his native environment for Tunch (the lineman):

I told Seth to get his address so we could send him a Tunch “FEED” apron from the Balloon Juice store.

Bill Clinton has sold out! He’s worse than Bush!

Clinton went to Wisconsin today and he didn’t criticize Scott Walker once. not once! He didn’t even mention Walker by name!

And to make things worse, he said

““Cooperation works,” said, in a frequently repeated refrain. “Constant conflict is a dead bang loser. And you need to get rid of it.”

    Cooperation? ! Cooperation? ! Cooperation? !

    Conflict is for losers? !

OMG! He doesn’t get it! It’s bipartisanship that got us in this mess in the first place!

    We have to fight!

This is why we can’t vote for Tom Barrett. They just don’t get it. And they never will, unless we teach them a lesson. Vote Green, Wisconsin! Show the Democrats we won’t stand for sell out bipartisan “cooperation”.

Agree with you about Capp’s misanthropy, and I seem to recall (could be wrong here) that he became a real wingnut — or do I repeat myself? Regardless, one helluva talented comic strip artist and satirist.

I had to rush away from a BBQ on Tuesday, ‘cuz my daughter called me from Balboa Park to tell me she and her boyfriend had found (well, *captured*, with charging up and down hills and through bushes) a bunny which is clearly an abandoned pet. It must have been just that day, because a tame, pure white rabbit would not last long in that park. If a coyote, hawk or owl didn’t get him, a homeless person would.

So I ran to PetCo, got bedding, food, and a water bottle, and set up a holding pen in cage-like carrier we have for my monster cat. (You think Tunch is big? Ha!) Kids got there with the rabbit (now named Lucky), and I went back to my beer and bratwurst.

    @efgoldman:

Okay, you know what? Every now and then, the Universe just laughs its ass off. I was following this thread, and kind of mildly thinking how much the musical “Li’l Abner” sucks, despite the fact I hadn’t heard it or even thought of it in many decades — walk to the car, get in, radio tuned to NPR station, airing the weekly program on Broadway musicals “A Night on the Town” and you guessed it, at that very instant they were playing “Dogpatch U.S.A.” Couldn’t believe it, still can’t.

I just had to sit there in the car and weep with mirth.

Oh man, talk about free publicity. :-)

And to those talking about Bill Clinton’s comments today…

I know we are much better at allowing free speech and contrary opinions over the maniacs in the GOP and allies – big tent and all that.

But for the love of God, why the hell do we keep giving free attack ads to them? Can’t we try and stay focused through at least November for Christ’s sake?

    It’s exasperating to this DFH.

@David Koch: Don’t know if there is a Green Party candidate in the mix and I didn’t hear Clinton’s speech. Still, my guess is that he was trying to show Walker as an extremist who is a destructive force and that the bipartisan approach is better for WI, etc. Yeah, we live in a starkly partisan environment due mainly to the extremism of the Goopers but the average voter on the right probably doesn’t understand any of this (death panels etc) so I am assuming the Big Dog was trying bring a different meme into play. Probably won’t work but better than nothing maybe or maybe not.

Yes, remember Li’l Abner well. Favorite character was always Joe Btfsplk.

And yes, too, Capp became a rabid, ornery, even bizarre reactionary as he aged, including being mentioned on the Nixon tapes, wherein Charles Colson bragged about trying to “fix” sex charges made against Capp, while they were scheming to have Capp run against Ted Kennedy.
