Did anyone notice that Ron Paul actually won the Iowa caucuses.
Rick Santorum narrowly won January’s Iowa caucuses, and future Republican nominee Mitt Romney finished a close second. But when the state’s delegates head to the Republican National Convention in August, most of them will be loyal backers of third-place finisher Ron Paul.
@shortstop: By demonstrating his complete lack of principles. Tony, u r doing it rong.
22.
shortstop
@Mark S.: And there are plenty more who will insist that he’s still a principled originalist. But it’s getting harder and harder to defend against the charge that he’s now motivated in large degree by politics and spite.
@Yutsano: I think he thinks that getting this out a few days ahead of the ACA decision is covering his ass. I think he thinks wrong.

@shortstop: I wonder if anybody will ask Fat Tony if he now thinks Gonzales v. Raich was improperly decided, based on his new thinking.
Sadly, I don’t think the press are smart enough to formulate the question.
So that means that, the next time a medical marijuana case comes up, Scalia will say that, since Rickard was wrongly decided, it’s A-OK for someone to grow marijuana in their backyard for their own consumption?
So the fucker now says even his own precedent can go fuck itself?
I do not care for that man, not one bit.

Here’s what I think is the money quote:
Indeed, in his book, Scalia leaves some wiggle room to change his mind back in the future.
…
Per the Times, Scalia writes that he “does not swear that the opinions that he joins or writes in the future will comply with what is written here,” in part because “a judge must remain open to persuasion by counsel.”
Shorter Tony: I needed Wickard to make a Republican argument with a Republican president. I’m needing to reverse that now, since a Democrat is in office. I’ll probably need to re-reverse myself in the future when a Republican re-takes the presidency.
Honestly, isnt that exactly what he’s telegraphing?

Max is looking how I felt after seeing “Prometheus.”Lovely visuals, but a tv movie level plot that oscillated between stupid and incomprehensible, and largely interchangeable cardboard characters who had little to do aside from being set up for their inevitable fate. I liked the leads, especially Michael Fassender and Noomi Rapace, but they were ultimately failed to lift the movie above being merely tolerable. The summer movie season started well, and I had looked forward to seeing a number of these films, but except for “The Hunger Games” and “The Avengers,” it’s been pretty wan stuff.

@Jebediah: The NPR report was weird to me. He was found drowned in his pool, but then they took a long time to point out that he was a very good swimmer, and a short time to say that no foul play was suspected.
I guess it must have been clear he had a heart attack/stroke and then drowned. But maybe they could say that.
That’s because the Iowa Caucuses in January decide NOTHING but are great horse race fodder for the morons of the MSM.
The actual delegates who have a say in the nomination process are selected independently of the moronic caucuses, which really are nothing but a straw poll.
@asiangrrlMN: I don’t think he looks sad. Just . . . focused, as though he is starring in a movie in his mind. Doggy Avengers, maybe. Max obviously is the hero.
Sounds like I liked the movie more than you did, but I completely agree about the plot.
You had characters saying “I’m a geologist” or “I’m a biologist,” and yet this was utterly irrelevant to anything that happened in the movie and seemed like nothing more than cinematic name tags. I want to blame the screenwriters for such an empty script, but I don’t know what director Ridley Scott was thinking either.
But I didn’t hate the movie. Individual scenes were interesting, but as a whole it was disjointed and just not satisfying.
Tim, as someone that is just starting to get into taking pictures (I can’t call it “photography” yet), can you post your shooting information with your pics (lens type, f-stop, ISO, flash, etc)? I know I would really appreciate it.
Was that picture taken with a zoom or fixed focal lens?

Never mind…went back through the archives and found the link to your flickr page.
If you like animation, G and I got to see a preview of Brave this weekend, and it was really good. The trailer doesn’t give much away, so there are quite a few surprises but, as G said, it’s pretty cool that they were able to make a movie with lots of action scenes that’s still firmly centered on the relationship between a mother and a daughter.
ETA: Full disclosure for those who don’t remember, my paycheck is signed by the same rodent that owns Pixar. But despite my bias, Brave is still a terrific film, which is not something I was willing to say about Cars 2.

Now that’s a cute dog photo! It Gets Better, Max. Hang in there.
@RareSanity: Clicking the picture will also take you straight to my Flickr page. The lens here is Panasonic’s excellent 20mm f/1.7 for micro four thirds cameras.
My wife and son gave me a Canon 600D (Rebel T3i), what I think is a really good entry-level DSLR, for Father’s Day. The “bundle” came with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and a 55-250mm f/4-5.6. Just ordered a 50mm f/1.8 and can’t wait till it gets here. I’m also thinking about buying an inexpensive, third party E-TTL Speedlite…just to complete my Photography 101 bag.
I’ll send you some links along the way so you can tell me how you think I’m progressing…

I am looking forward to seeing Brave. I am trying to avoid spoilers, but have seen hints that some of the early reviews are not as glowing as those of some of the better previous Pixar films.
And I’m still a bit peeved that Emma Thompson is one of the few non Scots voices among the film’s leads. Yeah, she is a great actress and all, but still. Shoulda been All Scotland.
