The Cole household menagerie is going to finally succeed in tripping Cole down the stairs in the dark. Tunch will eat Cole, Rosie will bury the bones in the yard, and Lily will drive the getaway car.

Cole will put down this coup. He controls the food distribution and entry/exit apparatus. Of course, if Cole is already dead it becomes a power struggle between Tunch and Rosie and how to proceed now that the coup has succeeded. And what to do with Lily, clueless to the plot.

All my ancesters were European peasants. They wandered over here to the New Country between 1700 and sometime in the 1850s. Had damned lies exagurations tall tales treasured family lore told to me as an innocent child about fancy pants people in Scotland don’t you know.

But, later on, the truth sunk it. Yeah we was related, but my people were peasants all the way down.

The Civil War heroes turned out to be three month enlistees that popped in and out of the records, sometimes serving after the first payday, sometimes not. One was last heard of heading off to a Confederate prisoner of war camp, so I don’t want to make too much fun.

Did have some minor Revolutionary War officers in the family, though. So, ha! Apparently that is for real, at least my relatives who are willing to dive into this stuff tell me so.

If I were a voter, though, I would have to ask her what she would have done on the Icesave legislation.

Grimsson saved Iceland from being another Ireland. I would want the president to be ‘politcal’ in that situation. Story doesn’t say he did anything improper, just exercised some rarely used powers of the presidency.

I’ve been discussing Obamacare with a friend and I have a question. Google has proven to be insufficient; the results are too messy and mostly pertain to the debate over the bill. ETA- I’ve also glanced at the actual PPACA bill, but didn’t find what I’m looking for.

Simply put, how do the enforcement mechanisms work against the insurers? Take rescission. I’ve been healthy and paid on time for years, but suddenly I’m diagnosed with bone-itis (Props to anyone that gets the reference.), which will cost $10M to treat. My insurer decides to drop me based on a mistake on my initial application, even though they’re no longer allowed to do so. What happens to them?

I assume they’re fined, but my friend says he heard (but doesn’t know) that the fines are paltry, in the low five digit range. If they’re fined $10k for dropping me, but I would cost them $10M, what’s to stop them? Are the fines larger, are there other punishments, or what?

  72. 72.

    Raven

    June 30, 2012 at 6:01 am

    @MeDrewNotYou: Here’s the IRS statement.

    Rescissions are in part C.

  73. 73.

    MeDrewNotYou

    June 30, 2012 at 6:28 am

@Raven: That was informative, but not what I’m looking for. I want to know what the punishment for the insurer is when they decide to break the rules in that document.

I bookmarked that page, though, since it gives a great explanation of the effects of the bill. Most descriptions are pretty general, but that had some useful specifics.

@Raven: Thanks for trying. And it isn’t like that link was useless. It has the best description of the provisions I’ve seen and should prove useful to wonkish friends wanting specifics.

I think the problem is that I’m looking for the details of what most people take for granted. Congress passes a law saying you can’t hunt humans for sport and that’s that. People know that its now illegal and don’t ask for details. You rarely see a discussion about what’s preventing me from that hunting and what happens if I do take down a few Homo sapiens. Getting detail is tough, especially with a complex law like Obamacare that’s full of incentives and disincentives and is mostly a regulatory thing.
