Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans in disarray!

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

This fight is for everything.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

“They all knew.”

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Let me file that under fuck it.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

I Like the Night Life, I like to Boogie

Fell asleep in the La-Z-Boy again (have those guys received a Medal of Freedom yet from a POTUS?) and apparently was out so long that the dogs had already gone to bed. Turned everything off and was trudging to bed when I realized I had forgotten all about PSYCHONIGHTOWLKITTY who jumped out of her bedroom trilling to say “HOWDY!” We had some heavy petting and then went our own ways:

zsazsa

pantaloons

Is it just me or does she have kind of a Puss ‘n Boots look like she is wearing pantaloons?

I’ve never had a cat with one of those plumage-like tails. Very cool.

Yes, she looks like she’s wearing bloomers. My mom’s Snowshoe cat looks like that, too, only she looks more like Grumpy Cat.

Looking at your pictures of Zsa Zsa makes me want to adopt another kitteh. But I have peace on Earth and manageable litter boxes, so cooler heads must prevail.

@MoeLarryAndJesus: Medium hair cats are awesome. I love Dirk, my long hair, and Monster, my short hair, but Harry is the fabulous. He has that great plumage without getting the horrible mats and snarls that Dirk gets.

“I Like the Night Life” was on the soundtrack for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Holy cow, that was a good soundtrack. I have hilariously fond memories of my roommate at the time singing along to “I’ve Never Been to Me.” Without irony.

I have mentioned visiting and taking pictures of the California missions. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but I managed to visit another one a few weeks ago, Mission Santa Ines in, of all places, Solvang, and took some pictures.

John, you are quite right about the pants. Someone’s got to wear them in that family of yours.

We sometimes call Pasha, our Maine Coon mix, “Monsieur Pantaloons”. Especially when he briskly walks away.

Identical cat. No one’s quite sure of her age, but we’re guessing 9. We stripped the floors down to concrete a while ago (easier re: dog/cat hair & TX heat), but left the tan carpet in the bedroom and closets.

The carpet in my closet ain’t tan anymore – more a mottled black. Soft though, so fuck it.

At least she’s not poking me in the face with the wife’s house shoe in the middle of the night. (Looking at you, golden.)

Not ‘pantaloons’, you peasant — thigh-high musketeer boots! And a fluffy tail to flourish like the feather in a musketeer’s broad-brimmed hat! She is a descendent of the Marquis de Carabas!

(And now I am missing the late and irreplaceable Figaro, for whom Zsa Zsa is a look-alike. Cherish your good fortune, and your discerning mom, Mr. Cole.)

Your Zsa Zsa is beautiful, John Cole.

P.S. I hate it when all the threads die at night and I can’t sleep. So, listening to all the music from Thelma and Louise and waiting for the knockout drops to kick in. Crap.

    I love that soundtrack.

@Nicole: I also loved Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Abba in the context of the film was kinda cool.

@dance around in your bones: It’s such fun to watch it now and think, “General Zod, Elrond and Leonard Shelby all in drag.” At the time it was released I think Terence Stamp was the only actual name actor of the three. Still one of my favorite things Guy Pearce has ever done.

@MoeLarryAndJesus: I had one with a tail like that (recently put down), and they are really perfect for cats. Can’t say how Zsa Zsa is, but mine LOVED to flaunt the tail. All my cats have different tail action, but the one with the plumaged tail definitely had the most elaborate and noticeable movement. Really was a good way for him to get attention.

    @Keith:

Keaton has a floofy tail like that and can flop just the very tip back and forth when he’s in the mood. Annie is more of a traditional long-haired cat, but her tail is also quite floofy.

I think Charlotte is jealous of their tails sometimes, because she’s a shorthair and has a skinny little ratlike tail.

When are you going to get her a rhinestone collar? It may not be standard for cats to have collars, but Madam ZsaZsa really does require sparklies to go with her fabulous tail.

Yes. Pantaloon kit-tays. I’ve had two long hair cats and they were the greatest. They actually shed less then short hairs, or at least they’re easier to clean up after. Just pick up the clumps which are plainly visible and voila’, yer done. They loved to be brushed and combed too.

How does Madame Zsa Zsa feel about the Furminator? Maybe you should play a Django Reinhardt album while you deshed her.

    Awwww, what a gorgeous girl.

I’ve decided that black-and-white cats are my favorite. Lucky’s such a sweetheart, even if he’s not so bright, and every cat I’ve met with that coloring has been loving and friendly. But if I find a flewffy girl with pantaloons, I’ll be overjoyed.

    @PurpleGirl:

When are you going to get her a rhinestone collar?

Hey, where I come from (culturally not far from West Virginia) if there are any rhinestone collars around, they go on Mom.
