If you have some time to spend sitting in front of the boob tube, I highly recommend this series on Netflix called Jack Taylor. Trust me, you will get sucked right in.

Isn’t it father’s day where you are too?
cathyx
Or did you put him to bed early tonight?

That’s Lady Mary’s obnoxious fiance!

I liked the first episode; I’ll give the rest a shot.

I said this yesterday, but I’ll say it again, I am officially a Blu-Ray Disc convert. Shit it’s gonna take a lot of time & money to get all my DVDS on BluRay. don’t they have a Blu-ray clearinghouse like the used to have for CD?
The first movie I watched was Hellboy 2: The Golden Army before going to see Man of Steel. I enjoyed it. I went to see it with my sister and we both had the same reaction. She leaned over to me and said “my god, this Superman dude is pretty hot”. Man that Henry Cavill sure is easy on the eyes aint he…geez.
Anyway, my sister saw This Is The End and she loved it. Anyone see it?

Jack Taylor is on my list of things to watch. Just finished watching The Fall and it was excellent. It was dark and creepy and yet so good. Thanks to the person here who recommended it.
For Father’s Day we are watching Dean Spanley again! I recommend it for the dog lovers here plus Peter O’Toole, Sam Neill, Jeremy Northam and Bryan Brown make up the small cast.

Currently watching a thunder and rain storm from my back porch and enjoying the shit out of the fact that it’s not trying very hard to kill me.

On the Netflix front, also check out “Top of the Lake.” Elizabeth Moss is good, and the rest of the cast is great, in a kind-of spooky drama/thriller thing. Only 7 episodes. Holly Hunter does cray-cray beautifully.

Or if you prefer to curl up with a good book, check out these titles.
[Hey, anyone else miss football? Maybe it’s because I’m a Mets fan, but I can’t wait for football season to start.]

First baseball game with my daughter. She did great–made it through 7th inning stretch. Great times. Padres ended up beating the d-bags as well.

@J.: I miss football. SADFACE. Or as my Brit friends call it: hand-egg.

And after you’ve watched the series, check out the books by my friend Ken Bruen. Absolutely amazing writing. It’s like nothing else out there.

hmm, bringing my Inuyasha phase to a close and mainlining Kamisama Hajimemashita again, but I’m interested in the Israeli series “Prisoner of War”. Anyone ever seen it?

A decent TV series I pick is, Killing Time starring David Wenham as Douglas Fraser a top-notch lawyer whose fame starts a downward trend for his career.

The ‘Borgias’ has an awesome/hideous scene with Ser Jorah as a priest who ‘comes to grief.’
Rock
Two Netflix suggestions for Cole and people with Colesque viewing preferences: End of Watch and The Man from Nowhere (violent Korean film sort of like The Professional…intellectually I know I shouldn’t have liked it but there you go).

Hey, John, have you corrected your & Anne’s embarrassing mistake last night of tweeting and blogging the infamous Paulbot Libertarian anti-Gore, anti-climate change CNET “political writer” claiming that he was smart enough to infer from a conversation that the NSA is secretly listening to everyone’s calls & reading your emails?
Does it at all matter to you to stand up and do the right thing and show that you & Anne were duped and you were not smart enough to check out his background or this statement from Nadler first saying it is a LIE?

@Rock: I Saw The Devil is my favorite South Korean revenge flick. The ending is KICK ASS!!!

‘Cabin in the Woods.’ It’s campy but, as a self-described horror snob, it’s a damn fun movie.

@JD Rhoades:
Second that – amazing writing, the London books and American Skin included.

@mk3872: Was unaware I had to issue corrections when I troll people on twitter. Pull the stick out of your arse.

Second vote for Top of the Lake – compelling, sad with some offbeat humor, excellent acting, very much a feminist work (it’s created & directed by Jane Campion). I liked The Fall as well, but not as much – in some ways it seemed like a direct copy of Lake, and the level of violence is torture porn-like at times. And the “finale” was a grievous cheat, unlike Lake.
Recommending Rectify for those who haven’t tried it; one of the most complicated protagonists ever, superbly conveyed by Aden Young. Heartbreaking stuff, but somehow uplifting too. The theme song – “Bowsprit” by the Austin-based ensemble Balmorhea – is a stunning piece of music. With a banjo!

Dude from “Game of Thrones” is pretty badass.
Went to see “This is The End” and it was fantastic. Worth sitting through 20 minutes of insipid commercials and 15 minutes of previews for shitty summer movies starring Adam Sandler and Bruce Willis.

@gogol’s wife: Lady Mary is quite obnoxious herself.
Yatsuno
@ruemara: “Eden of the East.” Incredibly absurd but just enough on the side of believable to work. And very nicely drawn as well.

@Yatsuno: I saw your comment the next day about your niece’s travel plans. I am not sure how much help I can be, since I haven’t really traveled much in the northern India and haven’t really been to any of the parts she will be visiting. I have mostly traveled in the south and the west and know Bombay/Mumbai really well
Steeplejack
@JD Rhoades:
Hey, I’ve read (most of) those! They are good.
The TV series didn’t register because “Jack Taylor” is such a bland name.
Yatsuno
@schrodinger’s cat: From what I understand now it will be mostly a tour group, so there won’t be much wandering off. On the one hand I think that’s the safest way to go, on the other it sounds pretty structured and the best way to travel sometimes is just wandering off the beaten path. She’ll have a great time regardless.
Mnemosyne
@ruemara:
Is that the one they based “Homeland” on?

Also check out Spiral on Netflix.

french police procedural. english subtitles.

@Yatsuno: That’s good way to get to know a destination you know nothing about. On her next trip she can wander around more. I love Goa, great beaches and incredibly fresh sea-food. Win-win.

The Fall was so good even though the subject was really difficult.

Show plods, watched all 3 episodes couple weeks ago. Being a big fan of Ken Bruen I was hoping for a lot more. At best the show is Meh.

I’m bereft without Game of Thrones….will definitely check it out.
