We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

How stupid are these people?

White supremacy is terrorism.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

This blog will pay for itself.

Fight them, without becoming them!

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

Disgusting:

The highest court in Nebraska has decided that a 16-year-old in foster care must carry her unintended pregnancy to term because she hasn’t proven that she’s “sufficiently mature and well informed” enough to choose to have an abortion. The teen sought to bypass the state’s parental consent law because her foster parents are very religious, and she worried that she would lose her place in their home if she told them she wanted to end her pregnancy.

Not mature enough to have an abortion, but mature enough to raise a kid in a foster home. Have no fear, though, if the Republicans get their way in a grand bargain, I’m sure they won’t cut all the assistance this 16 year old unwed mother in a foster home needs.

The poor kid. She’s got no one in her corner, and no one who loves her.

Sadly, a lot of teens cannot bear to give up the baby, especially those short on love, but then they don’t get the support they need to raise them, either. So they go into foster care of their own as emotionally damaged toddlers.

So sick, to deliberately destroy lives in the name of morality.

@Roger Moore: This is exactly what is intended. I have often thought that this whole no abortions and no contraceptives movement is about making poor women bear babies they can’t afford in order to have adoption possibilities for wealthier women who don’t want to ruin their figures, etc. I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I can’t help thinking that has something to do with it. Hmmm – seems like someone wrote a book about that at one point.

Seems there’s missing kiddie porn, a tendency (surprise!) to let priests keep being priests after doing really creepy things, and assorted extensions of a decades-long tragedy involving children and men with lots of power and no morals.

There was a case in Mississippi back when I clerking that was even more disgusting than this. A 16-year-old girl was pregnant and wanted an abortion. Her parents were dead and the grandmother who raised her had never bothered to take the legal step to be made her guardian. She sought an abortion and her grandmother supported her efforts, but the local chancellor, a preening theocratic asshole, decided that she was “too immature” for an abortion. It went all the way to the state supreme court which affirmed the chancellor on procedural grounds. I was disgusted then and I’m disgusted today, twelve years later.

The story linked on LGM included this bit:

Catherine Mahern, the attorney representing the girl, said her client went before Douglas County District Judge Peter Bataillon in July. At the time, the girl was 10 weeks pregnant.

Mahern declined to say whether the girl is still pregnant, three months later. “It is not in my client’s best interests to comment,” she said.

She noted there are ways for a minor to bypass parental consent other than through the courts. Among them is going to another state, she said.

    @Josie:

I think that is indeed part of it. Especially for white teens who are giving birth to pure white babies that the rich can raise as their own offspring, because they’re infertile or they don’t want to deal with 9 months of pregnancy, or whatever.

But the slut shaming aspect is also very important. The sluts need to be punished, and make sure that when the baby comes out, the incubator gets no pain relief. Bitch needs to suffer.

@Roger Moore: I remember reading years ago about a high achieving high schooler who went on down to her local (Christian, of course) adoption agency. They couldn’t have been more thrilled that this smart, pretty cheerleader wanted to give up the baby she had made with her equally smart, athletic boyfriend.

And then they found out he was black, which put the brakes on the whole thing, at least with that agency.

Wasn’t this the state that had screwed up the law allowing parents to drop off kids they don’t want so badly that a child this age could have just been surrendered to the state? It’s strange this age can be old enough to be a mother AND young enough to be surrendered like an infant.

    IDIOTS!

Republicans to block quick passage of back-pay bill

“I think it’s really premature to be dealing with that until we resolve the underlying problem,” said Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. “We’ve offered a number of bills to try to alleviate some of the hardship and they’ve been swatted down out of hand.”

Cornyn said he didn’t expect Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to bring it to the floor because of GOP objections.

“There is no sense of urgency for us to do it. The federal government is shut down,” said Sen. Richard Burr, a Republican of North Carolina who supports providing back pay but not until the government has reopened. “I think it’s very legitimate to take our time on this and hopefully Senator Reid will open it up for amendments and we can see how it ends up.”

Cornyn said if Democrats put the bill on the floor Republicans would not be okay with legislative shortcuts to pass it – such as a voice vote or unanimous consent agreement.

Asked if the bill should be subject to amendments and filibusters – procedures that could delay passage for several days – Cornyn said, “yeah, we ought to legislate.”

The daughter of a friend got pregnant way too young & bought the “choose life” propaganda. In the (Catholic) hospital while in labor & after delivery she was subjected to a long line of medical people pressuring her to raise the baby her own 16 year old self & going on about how could you give up your own baby, la, la, la until her mother finally raised hell, after which she was moved to a remote part of the ward & ignored until she was discharged. However, now that increases the demand for international adoption, which can result in human trafficking in countries that have even more corrupt, shady systems than we do.

This is the reason why, even though I think adoption can be a wonderful thing, that there really isn’t any way to ethically participate in that system.
