Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Petty moves from a petty man.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Not all heroes wear capes.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

And after the funeral, the survivors need feeding and the dishes won’t wash themselves…

The people who came to this boarded-up downtown on Thursday morning knew they could not do much to salve Ferguson’s wounds. But it was Thanksgiving, and they felt they could not just sit home, either. So they brought paint brushes and prayers, thermoses of coffee and trays of drop biscuits, hoping to counterbalance the arsons, angry protests and racial strife.

“This is a really small thing,” said Darcy Edwin, 26, as she painted a pastel oak tree onto the plywood boards covering an optical shop on South Florissant Road. “It’s not going to fix any big issue.”

It was cold and gray outside, and the streets that had overflowed with demonstrators for the past few nights were eerily still. Into this stepped Ms. Edwin, a Ferguson resident who works as a teaching assistant. “It’s harder to stay in,” she said….

The rich are different from you and me, and the NYTimes is always happy to let us plebes in on those differences:

Steven A. Cohen may have fended off the government for the most part, but his former wife is another story. Patricia Cohen continues to pursue Mr. Cohen, claiming that the billionaire investor cheated her out of money during their divorce some two decades ago and potentially owes her millions of dollars.

Helping to fuel the long-running legal battle is Asta Funding, a financial backer of a Beverly Hills, Calif., firm that has provided litigation financing to Ms. Cohen, according to court documents and people briefed on the matter. Asta and the firm that is financing Ms. Cohen’s lawsuit — Balance Point Divorce Funding — have an agreement to share in the proceeds of legal recoveries by clients…

Balance Point, founded in 2009 by Stacey Napp after her own acrimonious divorce, signed a deal with Ms. Cohen in the summer of 2013 to provide Ms. Cohen with about $1.2 million to continue her litigation, said people briefed on the matter but not authorized to speak about a private transaction….

Balance Point is part of a niche business that provides financing in drawn-out matrimonial cases to litigants with wealthy spouses. Only a handful of companies provide such financing in the United States…

So, while you’re counting your meagre blessings, don’t forget to include the fact that you’ve probably never heard the phrase “litigation financing” before, not even from your RWNJ second cousin by marriage…

The annual tradition:

Don’t drink too much to deal with the relatives. Also, when they engage you in political talk and start to offend you, just don’t respond. Wingnuts like to argue, and if you just ignore them they will shut up.

I spent fifteen years in the Midwest (Michigan) and learnt an honest appreciation for salads involving Cool-Whip and Jell-O, but… frog eye salad? Pasta simply does not belong in a dessert product. (No, I’m not enamored of rice pudding, either.) Must be a west-of-the-Mississippi thing… unless Google has been punking the NYTimes. (They fell for the nutmeg story, after all.)

Apart from (faking) an appreciation of once-a-year IT’S OUR TRADITION dishes like snickers salad, mashed parsnips, green rice, creamed onions, pretzel salad, and canned cranberry sauce, what’s on the agenda for the day?
