Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

So many bastards, so little time.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Stand up, dammit!

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

When we show up, we win.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Here’s a picture of my girl sleeping:

angel

How long has it been since I t old you all how much I love Lily. I know you’re not supposed to have favorites, but she really is (don’t tell the others). Everything about her is just perfect. She’s always by my side, but unlike Thurston, she’s not under foot. She never complains, never has accidents inside, is always the happiest to see me (Thurston gets super excited to see me when i get home, but it’s just because someone is home, not me in particular), and she will sit there and lovingly gaze at me.

Everything is so effortless with her. When I sit down in the office, she’s right by my left foot or on the couch. When I sit in the chair in the living room, she’s always on my lap, and I would say a solid 50% or more of the time I don’t even notice she jumped up there. I find myself five minutes into a show and notice I am petting Lily. When we go for a walk, while Thurston and Rosie spazz out and make it a five minute ordeal to put the leash on, she patiently sits there and I just reach down and hook her up. At bedtime, she gets in bed while I brush my teeth, and when I lie down, she moves, I lift the covers, and she snuggles up in between my torso and right arm. When I’ve had a bad day, she knows, and she will sit on my lap and lick my face and act goofy. Embarrassingly enough, all I have to say is “gimme some sugar” and she will come lie down on my lap and roll over so I can rub her belly.

I want her to live forever.

No shame in writing a love letter to one’s dog. My first dog I didn’t bother until the day he died. I suppose he’d have understood it the same in either state, but it might have helped me to have done it earlier.

I don’t know if this is the most convoluted, genius advertising campaign ever or if Hammond was just that awful and creepy (I suspect the latter), but I actually think Macdonald is okay. (CNN)Two women are about to make history by becoming the first female soldiers to graduate from the Army’s exhausting Ranger School.

They’re among the 96 students who will graduate from the intensive training program Friday in Fort Benning, Georgia.

This was the first year the Army opened the course to women on a trial basis.

The Navy plans to begin putting senior enlisted female sailors on submarines in December, officials announced on Friday.

The women will first be integrated onto ballistic missile submarines, which are larger than fast attack submarines, said Navy Cmdr. Renee Squier, head of the Office of Women’s Policy for the Chief of Naval Personnel.

The change is part of the Obama administration’s push to open all currently closed military jobs to women, including in special operations.

    Thanks Obama

Meanwhile, sweet Iggy is curled up near me on the bed. Little Muppet is too, fresh from her second accident in the house in less than a week. She got extra cuddles because I was overcompensating for my frustration with her.

And lately she’s started doing the gazing thing.

And one day I’ll get a tattoo of Phoebe’s paw print on my arm where she kneaded me one last time to say her farewell. And I’m choking up again thinking about it.

Lily’s a happy girl. She’d be blogging favorably about you, too, JCole. You rescued each other.

I want her to live forever.

How I felt about my last dog. It’s been just about two years. You know you’ve got a special one when that’s how you feel. Bless you both and you know what? I hope you get your wish.

@David Koch: those two female officers must be bad to the bone to get thru the Ranger school. Kudos to them! Also glad to see the ladies get on the subs.

@Omnes Omnibus: If he does it as “Colonel Sanders,” it should be OK.

If he does it as Norm Macdonald dressed in Colonel Sanders drag, it will be epic.
