Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

When I was faster i was always behind.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Per former-&-future Seattleite Yutsano:

Looks like we are settled for Sunday January 31st at 10am. Come one come all! Could I get a post tomorrow so I can get a head count? I’ll be able to check in during the day after my appointment tomorrow morning.

Venue: The Watershed, 10104 3rd Ave NE. Menu (.pdf) at the link, and I must admit it looks delicious!

Lurkers, spouses & friends always welcome. Drop a comment below if you’re planning to be there, or send me an email (click my name in the right-hand column, or annelaurie at verizon dot net) if you have questions, and I’ll forward them to Yutsano.

    I’ll call the Watershed today and request a table for 12. Thanks to hitchhiker we should be well taken care of. I’ll check for a more accurate headcount later as well.

    ok, I just saw last Thursday’s TDS with that New Yorker political reporter and he’s sitting there and can’t explain why Trump and his fans don’t like political reporters. He must not just own a mirror or a TV or know where he was at that exact moment. Comedy Central has filled an hour almost every night for over a decade pointing out why.

    whats that line about ppl not understanding something if their paycheck depends on it? I’m getting legit scared now.

    I hate it when you guys organise meet-ups that are so far away from KL. Pout.

    Meanwhile, The New York Times has endorsed Hillary for the Democratic presidential nomination. Its argument is very similar to my own: she has broader and deeper qualifications for the Oval Office than Bernie, and she’s miles ahead of those Republican wack jobs. Should I be embarrassed or proud of that?

    @Amir Khalid:

    And she is and will be more click-baity for them than Bernie. Think of the ad revenue.

    @Amir Khalid: If I ever win a big lottery, we’ll have a meet-up in KL. How do you feel about a bunch of BJers showing up on your doorstep? :) Do you have any plans to visit the States? Wherever you go, there may be some of us (We’re Everywhere! Like Pod People!) and a meetup could be arranged.

    I was a little surprised to see the NYT endorse Hillary, because they never miss a chance to trash her in their news and commentary.

    @CaseyL:
    Alas, I haven’t been to the US since the first Clinton was president. And I’m no longer really well enough to commute, let alone travel. But meeting a whole bunch of the Juicitariat sounds marvelous.

    Yutsano

    @Amir Khalid: They also endorsed Kasich, so take that for what it’s worth.

    Does Malaysia have religious travel restrictions like most of the Middle East does? Sucks I can only go to Israel, Lebanon, and Jordan.

    Amir Khalid

    January 30, 2016 at 1:10 pm

    @Yutsano:
    I’ve met American Jews in Malaysia. As far as I know there’s no restriction on Jewish people entering the country, only on Israeli nationals. You should be okay for travel to Malaysia. Malaysian passports are good for travel to any country except Israel, and a Malaysian with an Israeli entry stamp in their passport will have some ‘splainin to do.

    @Amir Khalid: Get on a plane right now! You can make it. Edited to say I’m sorry you are not well enough to travel.

    I’m curious, are you a US citizen? If so, I am embarrassed that did not realize it.
