From well-known commentor Yutsano:
Greetings and Salutations!
I will be in the Seattle area once again October 14-17. The only real planned activity I have is my appointment on Tuesday at 1 so I am pretty wide open otherwise. Could I get a post on this please?
If you’re interested / have venue suggestions, leave a comment below. Lurkers & plus-ones always welcome!
CaseyL
Any of those days works for me. Re venue: how about Elliot Bay Tavern in Lake City? I think there was another BJ meetup there, one I missed.
Yutsano
@CaseyL: I’m good with this. I’m leaving after my appointment at 1 on Tuesday and don’t have too much in the way of plans except a possible brunch on Sunday. My Army bud is going to Puerto Rico (medic plus speaks fluent Spanish means he’s needed badly) so my plan with him is shot.
Might bring a plus 1, but he’s a wee bit shy so might just do a separate thing with him.
EDIT: just looked it up and yeah that’s a winner for venue! I guess we just feel out days then.
Bonnie
It sounds like fun; but, I live in Tacoma and don’t have a car. Thus, Seattle may as well be in Timbuktu.
Mike J
I can reserve a keel boat if anyone wants to go out during the day.
For drinks/dinner kind of thing, downtown works better for me than an extra 20 minutes-half hour north does.
Yutsano
@Mike J: I’m staying at SeaTac, so venue doesn’t matter to me all that much.
Bex
OT: Alert for all LMM fans. He’ll be on MSNBC at 8 eastern.
CaseyL
Bonnie, can you get to a lightrail station? Lightrail would take you to Seattle Westlake Station, and then you’d walk a couple blocks to Pike & 6th Ave to catch a Sound Transit Bus route 522, or a Metro Bus route 312. Either one takes you right to Lake City Way and 125th (Elliot Bay Tavern is at 12537 Lake City Way).
CaseyL
Downtown would work better for Bonnie, too, if she can get lightrail from Tacoma. I don’t mind going downtown. Much.
Roger Moore
I saw this as the rotating tag:
Surely, this should be “with cheeseburger and mustard for all”. Or are we stuck with the ketchup because the mustard is still missing?
thalarctosMaritimus
I’ll come downtown from Marysville, if that makes it possible for Bonnie to make it in from Tacoma.
I just can’t make it on the 16th, is all–I have a can’t-miss appointment that evening in Stanwood. Any other time, though, and I’ll be there.
Bumper
I’d like to come. I live near Westport so it’s a drive for me but I’m game for anything. I’m mostly a lurker but I had a great time at the Phoenix meetup so I encourage all lurkers to give it a try!
Gelfling 545
Sigh. I suppose nobody much ever comes to Buffalo.
SiubhanDuinne
@Yutsano:
I assume you mean “Puherhto Rrrrico.”
Seriously, good for your bud. Volunteers are teh awesome.
The Golux
Not to hijack the post (OK, I’m hijacking the post) here on the right (correct) coast, I often see a number of Nutmeggers revealing their location. In a state this size, a meetup shouldn’t be too difficult. What sez ye?
SiubhanDuinne
@Gelfling 545:
I drive through Buffalo now and then on my way to visit my Ontario (Georgian Bay) cousins. But at this point it will probably be next spring before I make the trip again. When I have a time frame in mind, I’ll let Anne Laurie know so she can put up the bat signal.
AxelFoley
What’s the likelihood of this being true?
CaseyL
Well, if we’re meeting downtown, do we want to do it on a weekend day when the traffic is, I think, marginally less awful and parking marginally less expensive? (I’d be taking a bus but some folks may need to drive.) So that would be Saturday or Sunday…I’m available either one.
No ideas about venue; it’s a while since I dined downtown.
hitchhiker
I could do the 16th or 17th, esp if we’re downtown.
14th and 15th I’ll be in Miami, so if Miami juicers did a meetup one of those nights I’d be the rock star of bjmeetupland.
Baud
@AxelFoley: None.
Mike J
@Bonnie: My parents live down in that direction. We can find a way to get you there, once we determine where there is and when.
West of the Rockies (been a while)
@Gelfling 545:
Go to Buffalo? On purpose? ;-)
Mnemosyne
@AxelFoley:
Sadly, quite low. But it would be pretty to think so.
AxelFoley
@Baud:
Did the Twitter link show up for you? I can’t see it in my previous post.
Brooklyn Dodger
Just started vacation and won’t be around but if you’re going downtown Wild Ginger on 3rd is really good. I will also vouch for the sweet potato gaufrettes at Elliot Bay Tavern.
Omnes Omnibus
@AxelFoley: I don’t see it.
AxelFoley
@Mnemosyne: @Mnemosyne:
It would.
chris
@SiubhanDuinne:
Small world.
ETA I have family in Meaford.
Baud
@AxelFoley: It’s caught in your reply button.
AxelFoley
@Omnes Omnibus:
You don’t see it happening or you don’t see the tweet?
SiubhanDuinne
@chris:
My folks are in Owen Sound. Love that part of the world.
AxelFoley
@Baud:
Dammit, I’m on my iPad and I can’t see it in my post. But it copied to the reply box when I pasted it.
Let me try it again:

Omnes Omnibus
@AxelFoley: I don’t see the tweet.
Mike J
@AxelFoley: I saw the tweet in a view source, but not in the comment. Thought you were doubting our ability to organize a piss up in a brewery. Which is where we met when one of our NY contingent came into town.
And no, it can’t be nullified.
Corner Stone
@AxelFoley: Oh, come on.
satby
@Omnes Omnibus: tweet text:
Baud
@AxelFoley:
@satby:
This is the tweet.
CaseyL
Hey, this place looks promising – quiet, good for groups:
Juno, in the Arctic Building
satby
@satby: part the first of tweet:
Yeah, I hit enter before I copied the first half.
satby
And I don’t see how it can be nullified either. We have no provision for that in the Constitution.
Omnes Omnibus
@Baud:
No chance.
CaseyL
@satby: I’d want to know who Puesto Loco’s sources are. If it’s Louise Mensch, or anyone like that, you can safety ignore anything they say.
There is no legal precedent or process to nullify an election, even one that’s been brazenly stolen, even one that puts enemies of the country in charge of the country. Maybe there should be, but there ain’t.
Corner Stone
The undeniable fact that Lin-Manuel Miranda looks remarkably like Rachel Maddow is a little bit…
Roger Moore
@AxelFoley:
That sounds like a lot of wishful thinking. People talk about one thing and another being “a Constitutional Crisis”, but rolling back the election would be “A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS“. Even given the breadth of his mandate, that’s outside anything Mueller been asked to do. Even if he somehow decided that was within his remit, it’s hard to imagine him going to a district court judge about it rather than the Supreme Court. It’s far more likely this is about some theoretically routine but potentially politically tricky thing, like serving a no-knock search warrant on a high government official.
Amir Khalid
@Baud:
Holy spit.
Bonnie
@CaseyL: I’m way past the days of public transportation. Thanks.
Roger Moore
@Amir Khalid:
Anyone can post wild conspiracy theories on Twitter.
Corner Stone
Oh My God
Bonnie
@Mike J: Stay in touch. I love downtown Seattle. Meeting at Sea-Tac might be possible.
JR
@CaseyL: That’s basically Paris, 1793 nonsense.
We don’t want to go there.
SiubhanDuinne
@Corner Stone:
What now?
SiubhanDuinne
Hello? Hello?
eclare
@SiubhanDuinne: I’m confused too….
SiubhanDuinne
@eclare:
Seems like a very long time between comments, looking at the time stamps. Where IS everybody?
eclare
@SiubhanDuinne: Did everyone leave the party and forget to tell us?
Omnes Omnibus
@SiubhanDuinne: Raptured?
raven
@SiubhanDuinne: Watching baseball now that the soccer game is over.
SiubhanDuinne
@Omnes Omnibus:
What could be more rapturous than reading/commenting on Balloon Juice?
SiubhanDuinne
@raven:
Have been paying little attention to sports. I am off on a quest to learn more about Trump’s mother. Something weird about the way she is completely ignored by the biographers and analysts.
raven
@SiubhanDuinne: Watching a 12 inning (at least) playoff game?
raven
@SiubhanDuinne: Cubbies is winning!
eclare
@SiubhanDuinne: Agree with you there, saw your post on a dead thread. Let us know what you unearth.
NotMax
@SiubhanDuinne
Read (or re-read) Rosemary’s Baby.
:)
?BillinGlendaleCA
@SiubhanDuinne: Hello.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@raven:
I warned y’all about that last year. Did you listen to ol’ Bill? NO. And see what happened 11/8.
SiubhanDuinne
@raven:
Yay! The world-champion Cubbies!
Steeplejack
@SiubhanDuinne:
I’ve become mildly fascinated with Georgian Bay after seeing it many times on some HGTV show about people buying island homes. Sometimes I’ll look up the places on Google Maps, and I was stunned to see this huge body of water—5,800 square miles, 80% of the size of Lake Ontario. Definitely would like to visit that area sometime.
Do your relatives have their own island?
ETA: Georgian Bay is an arm of Lake Huron, for interested readers.
SiubhanDuinne
@NotMax:
Heh. Just re-read it a month or so ago. Really a beautifully-constructed story.
eclare
Amazing moon here in Memphis about an hour ago, hope y’all get to see it/saw it.
SiubhanDuinne
@Steeplejack:
Nope, they live in town. They live there year-round; it’s “cottage country” to some, but not to them. Beautiful area, and a very pleasant town. I love visiting.
Mnemosyne
I spent the day fighting with a Bbro, so now I feel like that’s out of my system for a while. Anyone curious will be able to immediately tell which thread it was.
I’m hoping to be over this stupid cold this weekend so I can donate blood. I’m sure our So Cal stocks are seriously depleted thanks to the mass murder in Las Vegas. ?
SiubhanDuinne
@eclare:
It’s pretty cool in the ATL, too. This, if I’m not mistaken, is the Harvest Moon. Shine on….
Steve in the ATL
So this union lawyer suggested we hold the arbitration at his office in Oakland, even though accommodations would be tight, as it’s more convenient for his witnesses than our lawyer’s spacious San Fran office. Of course I said no.
In other words, I am not getting raptured. But Le Comte would surely appreciate that move!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mnemosyne: I pied the a-hole.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: No one thought you were raptured. I was assuming that you were barbecuing children or something like that.
?BillinGlendaleCA
I was changing a shirt and it caught my industrial piercing on my ear and pulled the other end into a crease in my ear, so I went to the tattoo parlor where I got it done and they were able to help. While there I finally got my tat finished. Getting home, my new graphics card had arrived and I installed it and it really helps with Lightroom.
ETA: So now, rather than my right ear hurting my right ankle is sore(where the tat is).
Mnemosyne
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
See? It’s a public service.
Believe it or not, he got even stupider after you pied him.

BRB–gonna run this through Google translate
Steve in the ATL
@Mike J: I’m sure you noticed this, but two days in a row someone here has mentioned “harvest moon” and this morning someone said “bird on a wire.” IOW, posters are subtly dropping the names of songs off of Jason and the Scorchers seminal EP.
eclare
@Mike J: Awesome, thanks!
Steeplejack
@CaseyL:
Fuck that. I’d like to know who the fuck Puesto Loco is. Are we so desperate that we’re now grasping at straws from random Twitter users who appear to be tinfoil-hatted cranks?! Rhetorical question.
. . . Oh, jeez. I Googled Puesto Loco to make sure that he isn’t some well-known deep-state intelligence expert, and practically the first thing that popped up was Louise Mensch saying that he is Russian intelligence. I’m getting back in the boat.
Mike J
@Steve in the ATL: They came by WEVL on the show before mine when I was 16 or 17. I think they were already too big for Antenna, but it seems like I saw them somewhere. New Daisy?
chopper
I should be able to hang whenever.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Omnes Omnibus: An industrial piercing is a bar that goes through two places in the ear cartilage. The shirt pulled at one end and the other lodged itself in another portion of the cartilage. It just needed to be popped out of there, it was just difficult to do myself.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: Or mentioning Neil Young and Leonard Cohen songs. Until there is a mention of Absolutely Sweet Marie, you have no case.
Steve in the ATL
@Mike J: sadly, they didn’t stay too big for Antenna for long. But their cover of :Absolutely Sweet Marie” is one of my all time favorites.
Omnes Omnibus
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Jebus.
Steeplejack
@SiubhanDuinne:
Which town (if it’s not too personal)? My first question on all of these episodes is about living there full-time. I would not want to be putt-putting in a boat from my private island to the nearest village or town for groceries in February in Ontario.
On the other hand, $2 million or so for a somewhat rustic summer home seems a bit excessive, especially for Canadians.
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: ah–clearly we are soul mates! No homo. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
KS in MA
@The Golux: I’d be up for a CT meetup! I’m across the Mass. border, on I-91, but it’s a pretty easy drive to anywhere in CT.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: No homo. You’re the homo. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. //
How many other frat-boy lawyers post on this blog?
Beautifulplummage
@Yutsano: Elliott Bay Brewery also has a brewpub in Burien, very near Seatac. I’m a local brewer so can maybe pull some strings if the venue is brewery related.
If we plan this on Sunday I’ll offer to pickup Bonnie in Tacoma AND get her home again.
Would love to meet local BJers, so will try to make it to wherever you all decide.
Steeplejack
Damn, apparently I missed Ta-Nehisi Coates on Chris Hayes’s show earlier. They had a really good discussion a couple of weeks ago. I’ll have to look this one up.
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus:
Not enough! I am confident that everyone here will agree with that.

@Steeplejack

@Beautifulplummage:
Hey guys remember Bonnie who used to post here? Whatever happened to her? It’s like she just disappeared! Hope she wasn’t abducted and dismembered….
j/k–if there had been a Seattle meetup any of the several times I was there earlier this year I would have enjoyed a non-hoppy beer with you!
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL:

@NotMax: The heating bill!

Screw you for that Taboola-worthy video. It takes two interminable minutes to find out the place is in Winner, South Dakota—and to see the actual property in question, rather than random eye-candy places from all over. Jesus.
Mike J
@Beautifulplummage: You’ve sold me.
Beautifulplummage
@Mike J: @Steve in the ATL: 56 yo female….no guns or other weapons. Mad passion for craft beer!?
NotMax
@Steeplejack
Not even the slightest conception of who or what Taboola may be. Sounds like a faux rock ‘n’ roll dance like those that TV shows of the 50s and 60s made up.
Did find the use of Stephen Hawkingesque narration very peculiar.
(One can skip the video ahead – or back, for that matter – with relative ease.)
CaseyL
@Steeplejack: Mensch, huh? Yeah, I figured. They take an actual piece of news, lard it up, and pass it on.
Omnes Omnibus
Gone.
Bonnie
@Beautifulplummage: Thanks for that offer. Are you sure? I live in a place called Manitou around South Tacoma. It sounds fun.
CaseyL
So we’re meeting at Elliott Bay Brewery in Burien, on Sunday the 15th? Sounds good! What time?
Gelfling 545
@SiubhanDuinne: cool.
Halcyan
@thalarctosMaritimus:
I am also in Marysville. Perhaps a car pool is in order?
Beautifulplummage
@Bonnie: I’m sure! I saw you wanted to go the last time we tried to set this up. I just got a car again after bussing around all summer (and bumming some rides) so I’d be glad to be able to help out someone else. I’m in the Renton area, so not hard on a Sunday.
Beautifulplummage
@CaseyL: 2pm? They also have awesome shuffleboard tables. If we can get a repost and a head count I can talk with “people”.
otmar
I just landed at Frankfurt airport on my way to Seattle. I’m flying back to Austria Thursday morning, so I’m going to miss the meet up.
Have fun!
thalarctosMaritimus
@Halcyan: Yes! I’m up for that. I’ll ask one of the front-pagers to send you my email address.
