Better late than never:
Is anyone here in the path of Hurricane Nate? Looks like it might be a little stronger than they figured at first, so stay safe.

Washington (the real Huskies) and Cal don’t kick off until 7:45 Pacific time tonight. Who thought that was a good idea?
NWSL semi-final Portland at Orlando. Now that’s entertainment.
O/T In which Glenn Greenwald (I know, I know) commits an act of actual important journalism–federal government is completely in bed with Big Ag to strangle public knowledge of their vile practices. Hey, it’s only our food supply, so no big.
Do not read over lunch.

Go Cyclones!
trollhattan
@hedgehog mobile:
Iowa State? In truth, one of the best team names. What’s more badass than a cyclone? (Hurricanes OTOH, bah.)

@trollhattan: The Pac-12 Network needs to be shit-canned, and the Commish needs his @ss kicked. Looks like the Coogs get their first test in Eugene, I hear they five of their last seven games on the road, still I want them and the DAWGS(Memo to Steve in the ATL, that is what the Huskies are referred to here) to run the table and make it an Apple Cup where one has to be very careful which sports-bar to go.
raven
Uh huh. . . .
hedgehog mobile
@trollhattan: Heh. They are making a pretty good run against the Sooners today.
raven
@trollhattan: That’s right because the REAL DAWGS are on a fucking rampage.
Steve in the ATL
@raven: did you hear that bit on the Vanderbilt tradition of “blowing the Admiral”? I was signed up to go their both undergrad and law school–this makes me glad I changed my mind twice!
phantomist
@trollhattan:
ESPN. This morning on gameday:
“College GameDay’s Kirk Herbstreit responded to Chris Petersen’s complaints about late-night Huskies kickoff times today, saying the Washington head coach should be thanking the Worldwide Leader for airing their games at all.”
-As someone who stays up late on the east coast, I love having a good game on that late.
raven
@Steve in the ATL: Russ Tanner was talking about it yesterday morning on the Dawg talk show.
Do you know that Vanderbilt never visited the university?
raven
@phantomist: Most people don’t even get the Pac 10 network.
phantomist
@raven:
It’s a 10:45 p.m. start time on ESPN here in Michigan.
raven
@phantomist: Ah, many of their games are on the Pac “12′!!!

@raven:
Still think of it as the Pac 8. How the fig is Arizona on the Pacific–is the ocean rising that quickly?
raven
@trollhattan: Colorado and Utah too.

@raven:
Nobody gets the Pac 10 network, it doesn’t exist. However, there is the shitty Pac-12 network.
trollhattan
@raven:
They’re right out. The redeeming aspect is listening to a game that includes Utah because every time they announce a “Ute” has done something I flash to My Cousin Vinny, “Dese two Utes…”

Im in New Jersey. I keep waiting for the upper East Coast’s turn to get hit in this bizarre Hurricane season. Though most of the time, when a storm moves up the coast, it veers off eastward and just beats the crap out of Long Island.

@Steve in the ATL: One of our racing coaches was trying to get people to believe that the Vanderbilt start was named after his alma mater. They do share a namesake, but the start was named for the commodore, not the school.

Back (waaaayyyy back) even when I cared about college foosball* I couldn’t name all the members of the old SWC. Rice? Yes, pretty sure. SMU? No. TCU? uhhhh… all that mattered then was Texas & Arkansas anyway. What’s the old SWC’s name now? I’ll have to google it.
*Currently I’m more likely to watch a college game than the pros: more action, fewer flags. But concussions, NFL billionaires are turning me off to the game at all levels. I’ve lived to see the Pats win a Super Bowl (or five), it can all go away now…
Haydnseek
@trollhattan: Whatever you do, don’t tell trollhattan about Utah and Colorado.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@trollhattan: “What’s a Ute?”
Haydnseek
@?BillinGlendaleCA: The Pac12 Network is the only network airing the USC vs Oregon State game today. If that’s shitty, fine with me.
Uncle Omar
I have a question. Is the haircut with the sides of the head shaved and the remainder on top pomaded into a grease spot the latest in Nazi tonsorial style? If the young man with said tonsorial style is strolling along wearing a sport coat, white shirt, khakis, and a bow tie holding his blonde girl-friend’s hand do these facts confirm or refute the proposition that he has a Nazi haircut? Lastly, if all other males within a three block radius are wearing Levi’s or Bermuda shorts with tee-shirts or golf shirts and it’s Saturday morning and 65 degrees F, does this further confirm the initial proposition that the hairstyle described is a Nazi special? If so, should I have assumed he is a Nazi or a Nazi dupe and punched him in the face?
trollhattan
@Uncle Omar:
Depends. Do you happen to be in Munich? Greenville?
p.a.
Side shave and pomade topknot deserves a punch no matter what the politics. *hrumph hrumph get off my lawn*

Iowa State and Oklahoma have played 82 times. With today’s victory, ISU has won six.
