12 Counts

Mr. Manafort and Gates are each facing a twelve count indictment.

The indictment against both of these individuals makes the following charges:

Count 1 Conspiracy against the United States
Count 2 Conspiracy to Launder Money
Counts 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 — Failure to report foreign accounts
Count 10 — Unregistered agent of a foreign principal (FARA)
Count 11 — False or Misleading FARA statements
Count 12 — False statements

The interesting to me, as I am not a lawyer, is the last couple of pages of the indictment. Paragraph 52 is a notice of intent to seize assets. If there is a conviction on Count 2 (Money laundering) or count 10/11 (FARA violations) the Feds intend to get all of the ill-gotten gains. That to me is an invitation of Mr. Gates to think about his children and his wife. Does he really want to impoverish his family or does he really want to flip and start talking…

    Is this normal

President Trump on Monday is scheduled to have lunch with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, just hours after Trump’s former campaign chairman was indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Sessions was invited to join Trump’s weekly lunch with Vice President Pence, which is closed to press coverage.

    thehill.com/homenews/administration/357783-trump-to-lunch-with-sessions-amid-manafort-charges

@NotMax: That’s odd, and it seems unlikely it would be an oversight.

All I can come up with is that it may be that the purchasing funds could not (yet?) be directly tied or traced to the monies and accounts as described in the indictment. Strictly an uninfomed guess, though.

The most obvious explanation would be that the Trump Tower property is not in Manafort’s name.

I read the indictment. It’s a combination of financial sleight of hand that is both sophisticated and petty, which is to say, corrupt from start to finish. Everything from paying for real estate with foreign cash and then taking out domestic mortgages on the property in order to use the mortgage proceeds to fund a lavish lifestyle, to falsifying loan documents to mortgage lender about whether a family member was using a property as a permanent residence in order to get a better rate. I can imagine many people doing the latter, sad but true, but I don’t know anybody who would do the former.

@NotMax: Are we sure it’s still in his name? I glanced through a Renato Mariotti thread explaining the indictment, etc., and he said something about missing properties might have been transferred. Either that, or maybe Schneiderman is working on something with it for charges in NY state.

Delurking here. My sister was killed last week. I don’t want to go into details in public, which are ugly, but she was a lurker here as well (I don’t think she even had a nym), but she especially loved the pet posts and anything by JC.
I am adopting her almost 120-pound golden and bringing him back to Ohio with me – probably from LAX. I have ordered the super humongous-sized transport crate according to the specs at Delta Cargo and will be back at the vet to get his documentation on Wednesday. Any advice? Any experience with Delta on this sort of thing? The return date is a little up in the air but I’m hoping by the end of the week.

I hate to bring this back to the political aspect, but two things, both of which are unknowns. I hope the answer to both of them is yes, but my confidence in accurately predict things along these lines ended a little under a year ago.

Does this move voters or create more anti-Trump/anti-GOP voters in 2018? As it stands at this moment, I don’t think the Democrats pick up the House or Senate. The map is too stacked against u

Does this move the needle with elected Republicans in congress to feel less secure about not replacing Trump with Pence at the earliest possible chance? Yes, Pence will likely be worse in many ways, and he’s probably dirty too, but he’s a more “normal” politician.

    Sorry for your loss.
I have sent a dog on a plane ride but it was a private plane which ferried pets around the country. It was the pilot and about 20 dogs in crates. There was no room left in the plane and everything went well. I have seen lots of animals on planes over the years and it seems to not be that much of a problem. The airlines want things to go well and do not want to hurt your pet. But there can be problems because some dogs freak out about being crated or over a long flight. If you know of or have a vet, ask them for advice.

No pet history more recent than 19970s, those airlines are long gone now.

But we have flown on Delta mostly for the past 15 or 20 years, and have had very good results so far, but for an exceptional weather situation which I do not really blame the airline for. I think you are with the best air travel folks available in the US.

Ruckus is right about talking to the vet about the travel arrangements – a mild sedative might be a good idea, and get enough to do a trial run before you take your new best friend to the airport. I think we used valium for our cat? but the vet will give you good advice and a med that will be helpful

    Sorry for your loss.

Once some few years ago we flew out of CRW, proabably to BWI or LGA, we were sitting up front in a little commuter plane. There was a pitiful mewing from the cargo space, and the flight attendant told us there was a cat being shipped to appear in a show. One of them went into cargo space to check and it seemed OK, just stressed out.

One passenger asked if since there was an empty front row, couldn’t they bring the kennel up to the cat would be with the other people. So the crew chief asked, no one objected, and kitty rode in the cabin quite calmly for the rest of the short flight to NYC. We all thought that was a wise decision, as the noise from the cargo hold was enough to rattle anyone’s nerves and cat did calm down riding with the other people.

Golden’s in my experience are very calm about everything, so it should all go fine.

Best of luck getting big dog home, again, so sorry for your loss.
