I gotta be honest, I’m not feeling as good about this race today as I was two weeks ago. Really wish that: a) his predatory history with teenagers hadn’t been exposed until last week; b) Al Franken and John Conyers hadn’t gotten caught up in (obviously much less egregious) scandals of their own. The polls are not looking so great for Jones right now.
On the chance that he does win, I’m not sure if he’ll actually be able to do anything to stop the GOP wealthcare abomination from passing, since he won’t actually be seated until January (which means the Senatortoise will still have Luther Strange’s vote for the rest of this month, even after next Tuesday).
FWIW, it ain’t a coincidence that the Franken and Conyers stories only came out after the Moore accusers stepped forward.

@JaneSays: No one knows how the vote will come out, and gut feelings are predictive of absolutely nothing. The only way we are sure to lose this one is if we stop trying. Yours seems like an odd comment on this particular thread. Unless you are trying to sew discouragement?
Doug, I am headed to bed but will donate in the morning.

@JaneSays: Senatortoise? I’ll be stealing, please and thanks.
Nevertheless, the lesson going forward should be “don’t sexually harass women and you’ll never have to worry about having your transgressions exposed by wingnuts trying to ratfuck an election”.

Yes, it’s true that if we don’t even try that we are guaranteed to lose. So we should absolutely try to win.
But we should also not build this one up to be an end-all-or-be-all race, because we’ve gone down that road more than once this year and had it blow up in our faces every single time (GA-06, KS-04, MT-At Large). Of course I’ll be disappointed if we lose, more than that, downright disgusted, but nothing an overwhelmingly wingnut-leaning electorate does can shock me anymore. And Alabama has an overwhelmingly wingnut-leaning electorate. The kooks in Montana elected a violent asshole who assaulted a reporter only days before the election, all because he had an (R) after his name. I don’t think for one second the credible teenage predator accusations against Moore are gonna sway even one of the MAGA deplorables, and that’s even conceding that a sizeable chunk of them probably believe the allegations and don’t care anyway (the female Republican Alabama governor is one such person), because they gotta stop them ‘bortions from happening.
I’ve thrown in about $40 so far in this race and will kick in another $10 tonight, but I’ve only got so much money I can afford to spend on political campaigns (not much), and at a certain point I have to start looking at where that limited resource is more likely to make a difference. I dropped $50 on Ossoff earlier this year, and if Jones doesn’t pull this off, that’ll be $100 spent on losing candidates in 2017. I desperately hope Jones pulls off the miracle win, but if we’re being honest here, a win for him at this point would be something of a small miracle. If he loses, I’ll be upset about it, but one thing I won’t be is surprised.
