    I don’t want to Godwin this thread at the start, but looking at that still/frame of Shitgibbon gesticulating, it reminded me of some Austrian painter who used to gesticulate similarly (if I’m remembering correctly) when trying to incite fascists.

    During the little bit I watched (I can’t take Trump in long stretches without wanting to throw something) he was talking about 2016, again. That election is over. Trump hasn’t done anything right since then. The world has given up expecting America to pull its weight, and is losing respect for America. A lot of people who voted for him now wish they hadn’t. His administration is mired in scandal and beset by investigations into what potentially criminal/treasonous behaviour. Trump has become a serious drag on the Republican party’s electoral chances this year. So instead of doing something about these very serious problems, there he is clinging to his security blanket: his Electoral College victory against the far better candidate. It seems to be all he has.

    I made the mistake of turning on a few minutes of Maria Antoinette Baritiromo on Fox Bidness this morning. After decrying NBC’s fake news she let everybody know how upset she was that Cohen’s phone was tapped. It just wasn’t right and she had Bud Cummins on whose title was former US Atty who was equally upset. I looked up Cummins and he was part of the Dolt45 transition and chair of the Dolt45 campaign in Arkansas but Fox Bidness didn’t think that their viewers needed to know that. Anyhoo,my new nick for Unmanned Missile Maria is Moscow Maria. Lou Dobbs is Lenin grad Lou and Sean Hannity is Stalingrad Sean. The president has been a very good influence on me.

    On Friday TS Ellis, a judge in the eastern district of Virginia, suggested that Mueller’s real motivation for pursuing Manafort was to compel him to “sing” against Trump.

    “You don’t really care about Mr Manafort’s bank fraud,” the judge, reportedly losing his temper, challenged lawyers from the office of special counsel. “You really care about getting information Mr Manafort can give you that would reflect on Mr Trump and lead to his prosecution or impeachment.”

    The comments, at a tense court hearing in Alexandria, were a boost for Manafort’s lawyers who contend that the charges against him are outside Mueller’s mandate to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election.

    Ellis added: “I don’t see what relationship this indictment has with anything the special counsel is authorised to investigate.

    “We don’t want anyone in this country with unfettered power. It’s unlikely you’re going to persuade me the special prosecutor has power to do anything he or she wants. The American people feel pretty strongly that no one has unfettered power.”

    In an ongoing case, a judge ruled that the “Respondent’s birth certificate and consistent assertions of being under eighteen outweigh the dental age test.” That was 10 days ago. ICE is still holding him at an adult detention center in California.

    ICE will continue to ignore the law until they pay a penalty for flouting it.

    @TenguPhule: Judges are notoriously not too forgiving when their orders are ignored. Unfortunately it can take a while for them to compel action. This will be brought back to the court by the people acting on behalf of this young man. Then the judge will determine which sanctions to implement. Our system is iterative. Slagging the judges because of the system they have to work within isn’t going to solve the issue.

    The Republicans would go mad with aggrieved jingoism and lust for vengeance, and some of their voters would adopt “second amendment remedies”. it would be like the week after 9/11 except explicitly partisan. I think that many innocent people would be killed in the resulting violence.

    Alas, that’s unnecessarily complicated. He’s insecure and petty to an extent non-narcissists have trouble grasping. He lost the election by three million votes. A woman humiliated him twice in the debates. Since he won, he’s had nonstop shit reviews of his every action. He won the actual presidency of the United States of America, and instead of praise for his win, he’s faced nonstop public venom and mockery. He has lots of reasons to dwell on it and constantly beg for validation.
