Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Giving up is unforgivable.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

The willow is too close to the house.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Come on, man.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

This blog will pay for itself.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Whatever happens tonight, keep at it. Don’t tune out if it’s losses across the board, don’t get complacent if it’s wins across the board.

Whether they like it or not, history is on our side. But the American right isn’t going down with a fight.

Fox News projecting that the Dems will control the House is uplifting.

NBC gives it an 80% chance for Dem control of the House.

    This is all good.

95% of things are going according to expectations, and yet this evening's coverage has had more twists and turns than a mountain road. The way we cover politics in this country is beyond broken.

Citation is needed for history being on our side.

Ultimately there’s a very strong rural/urban divide and we live under a system that gives the rural areas a massive advantage. I don’t see a workaround.

The thing that surprises me most so far in the House is that, by 538’s classic estimate, every candidate with a 50% or greater chance of winning has won in races called so far. All of them. Zero upsets.

It ain’t a wave…but frankly, when it comes down to it, all we need is 218 and the emergency brake will have been THROWN.

I just need a Dem Congress for Mueller to give his report to, and two years of Trumponomics playing out as predicted. Add in 1M+ new Dem voters in Florida and we will hand the GOP their asses in 2020.

HOWEVER…I cannot spend 2 more years in a blind rage over this sorry excuse of a country…no, that’s not right. This sorry excuse of about half of all our current voters, not our country as a whole. So, here’s to them – the GOP faithful, the unrepentant racists, the proud ignorants – dying off in record numbers, here’s to us continuing to inspire young people, and here’s to truly turning the page in 2020.

The FTFNYT finally put the dreaded needle up, and it says Democrats have a >95% chance to take the house, and right now they have the Senate at 53/47 Rs. I think we need to remember that this was supposed to be a bloodbath in the Senate for Democrats, and a gain of two isn’t great.

It is truly the fight of our lives, for the rest of our lives. Even for the lives of those much younger than me. Evil is never vanquished, it must be beaten back regularly. Sometimes it gains a few steps, especially when good people are convinced the war has been won.

Whatever the outcome of today’s battle, suck it up, take a breath, and hit it again.

Thanks to all here for the sanity and the focus. These have been hard years.
