    Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey told the state that it’s not safe to reopen — not without more testing and better numbers — and she kept her stay-at-home order in place.

    I think that she is a woman may have something to do with it in this case. And yes, it may be culture, not innate biology. She might be less inclined to be drawn into stupid “prove your toughness” bullshit than some American male governors. And some of the idiot “liberate” fools seem to be insecure males with something to prove.

    I’m shocked, shocked that Trump killed people.

    And again, the weird thing is that Trump’s supporters see with their own eyes that Trump gives less than a shit about thrm, and yet they are still eager to sign up to join his death cult.

    We ventured out into the world yesterday in search of bleach. We need bleach for our well to kill bacteria once a month. I saw online that Walmart had some in stock so we drove to a tiny Walmart in a neighboring county. I was very impressed with Walmart. All employees were wearing masks, most of the aisles were marked for one-way traffic and  they provided you with their reusable bags for free. Checkout clerks were not allowed to touch reusable bags brought in by the customers. And at least 2/3 of the customers were wearing masks.

    Trump takes a question from ultra-sycophantic OAN basically asking him why people support his policies so much. Trump responds by saying “I think it’s going to be a renaissance” and then ends the briefing.

    Looks like a short one today… I wonder if somehow it’s seeped in that the longer he stays up there, the worse he looks.
    I’ve seen some mention of Birx today but none of Fauci. Anybody see if he was up there?

    I am not a therapist. I don’t even play one on the Internets. I don’t know what is wrong with Trump, but I have often said that he would get worse as president, demand more praise and screw up more.

    I thought that he would show his essential cowardice and stupidity in reaction to a military conflict. I never thought he would start a war. He is too afraid and too risk averse for that. Getting soldiers killed would make him look bad. But I thought that he might get drawn into a conflict and then massively screw things up.

    I never, never in any fever dream saw a pandemic coming. But Trump’s behavior has been worse than I imagined, but in some ways not unexpected. He has not done a goddam thing, has run away from any real leadership, and yet he still demands praise for what he hasn’t done, sulks and withholds assistance, and fights with the people he is supposed to help.

    Most of all, he has absolutely no idea how to deal with the virus. He can’t mock it. And even if he calls it a hoax or fake news, the virus will still kill people. Trump can’t duck and dodge that reality.

    But he is not only trying to pretend that it’s not his fault, but he is also trying to pretend that he can make the problem go away by denying that it is there.  He needs to be praised, to be told that he is perfect, that he made America great. And he is willing to let people die so that he can feel good about himself.

    Because that is what he needs. And he still has people willing to go along with this, to give him what he wants.

    The crazy thing is that if he were the third rate authoritarian ruler of a tiny country, he would have been deposed and end up living with the loot he stole in some out of the way country.

    Instead, he is the lowest rate authoritarian ruler of the United States of America.  And it will be up to us to vote his sorry ass out of office.

    Trump will never get better. But he will get worse.

    I got a news update on that study.   The results were adjusted to account for relative differences in acuity, and still showed no positive impact, and might have had a deleterious effect.  No doubt Trump has already sold whatever stock it was that prompted his demand for studies.

    In the study, patients who received both hydroxychloroquine alone and the combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin were more likely to have severe Covid-19 disease, compared to people who didn’t get the drugs. But even after statistically adjusting for those differences, patients getting hydroxychloroquine alone still had a higher death rate than those not getting it. There was no clear difference in death rates among those getting the combination compared to those getting no drug.
    Results from the unpublished study were first reported by the Associated Press.
    In Brazil, part of another clinical trial was suspended because patients getting higher doses of chloroquine, a related drug, appeared to be more likely to die, according to a preprint of the study that had not yet been published in a scientific journal.
    Other studies of the drugs in thousand of patients are ongoing around the world to try and determine whether the drug might work as a treatment or a preventive measure.
    If hydroxychloroquine or the closely-related drug chloroquine is given alone, patients should be monitored for side effects, including the heart rhythm disturbances that can lead to sudden death, the NIH panel said.
    The panel said that no drug has been proven effective for use in patients with the diseases caused by the new coronavirus, and didn’t endorse the use of any other therapies outside of clinical trials. The panel’s recommendations for now focus on supportive care, such as oxygen.
    The group also said medicines commonly used to treat HIV, including AbbVie Inc.’s Kaletra, should be avoided because of negative clinical trial data and potential harm to patients.

    Also, according to Pritzker, there is new modeling out. Originally, IL was supposed to hit its peak right about now. Now pushed off to Mid-May at earliest. That is not good.

    I think I figured out Trump’s game with the governors; we know he blew the stimulus on his donors. That fits how Trump does business; he never pays his debts, just takes a loan to pay off the other loan. So Trump hijacked the stimulus to pay off his donors that Trump had screwed, to get the money to cover this Trump was going to charge the states threw the nose for PPE gear, ventilators and test kits. That’s why Trump is so pissed off at the Governor of Maryland over the governor buying test kits from Korea.

    I just spent 30 minutes in the sun on the stoop talking with my neighbor (bartender, server, survivor, our cats met, Salad and Dickens but we all maintained 20 feet or so of space due to the convenient layout of the front yard and despite the proud march of two cocky pigeons who strutted by completely unmussed as two cats started to hunch down and do the booty-shake-prepared-to-sneak-attack-twerk) and it’s getting harder and harder to suffer the ignominy of being a “basic” but suddenly “essential” employee.
