Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

How stupid are these people?

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

Be a wild strawberry.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Peak wingnut was a lie.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

On The Road – Yvonne – Denali from Wonder Lake

by WaterGirl|  December 16, 202010:00 pm| 17 Comments

This post is in: On The Road, Photo Blogging

Yvonne appears to be a person of few words (!) but I am willing to bet that this is a photograph from a very special trip to Denali and Wonder Lake.  Perhaps Yvonne will show up in the thread to tell us more about it.  In the meantime, maybe we can all share a few words about a trip we took when we were kids that is a special memory for you, or holds a special place in your heart.

I’ll start.  My parents owned a small business, a local neighborhood tavern, so we never got to go away on vacation.  Ever.  Except once, when we went to the Wisconsin Dells.  I have a permanently etched picture in my head of nighttime and beauty and lights and Indians dancing and a profound sense of wonder.  ~WaterGirl

Ghosts of Christmas Past, In a Good Way!

by WaterGirl|  December 16, 20207:31 pm| 83 Comments

This post is in: Albatrossity, Balloon Juice, Open Threads

If there’s interest, we would like to have a Ghosts of Christmas Past for a week or two around Christmas, in the 10 pm On the Road slot.  We think it could be fun, even for folks who might not typically participate in the usual on the road threads.

To get us started, Albatrossity sent in this adorable photo:

Ghosts of Christmas Past, In a Good Way!

You can send in a full submission with Christmas photos, or just send just a photo or two that can be combined with others.  Labelled as your photos, or anonymous, totally up to you.

Decorations.  Pets dressed up for Christmas, or under the tree surrounded by a collection of every single toy that was given to every single dog that year.  Yes, I am thinking of my cocker spaniel, Mellon, who did that one year when I was in my twenties.  I think I spotted a kindred spirit in this year’s pet calendar, too.

Or the puppy you got that year for Christmas, or your beloved pet in a Christmas hat.  Or on the couch with family or friends, all of you in your new Christmas socks.  You at 6 years old, dressed in your Christmas PJs by the tree.  Outside playing in the snow with your new sled.

Sweet, funny, silly, whatever you want.  The only requirement is Christmas.  And pants.  Or at least jammies.  Sorry, Baud, we really struggled with that decision, but we think we landed on the right side of this one.

If someone is willing to pay me enough money, I could post the photo of 18-year old me, standing by the tree in my purple crushed velvet pantsuit, with an amazing amount of make-up on.

What do you think?  Is anybody up for this?

Most of us won’t be together with family and friends in the usual way this Christmas, so perhaps some Ghosts of Christmas Past can bring some joy to all of us?

Update: We’re a go.  New name is Ghosts of Holidays Past.

Trump Inspired Terrorism

Get used to more of this:

A former Houston Police Department Captain was arrested and charged for running a man off the road and pointing a gun at his head in an attempt to prove claims of a massive voter fraud scheme in Harris County, according to a news release from the Harris County’s DA’s office.

Mark Anthony Aguirre, 63, was arrested by Houston police Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

“He crossed the line from dirty politics to commission of a violent crime, and we are lucky no one was killed,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said. “His alleged investigation was backward from the start – first alleging a crime had occurred and then trying to prove it happened.”

According to court documents, Aguirre told police that he was part of a group of private citizens called the “Liberty Center,” who were conducting a civilian investigation into the alleged ballot scheme.

According to Aguirre, he had been conducting surveillance for four days on a man who was allegedly the mastermind of a giant voter fraud scheme. Aguirre told authorities the man was hiding 750,000 fraudulent ballots in a truck he was driving.

Instead, the victim turned out to be an innocent air conditioner repairman, court documents said.

Aguirre ran his SUV into the back of the truck to get the technician to stop and get out, according to court documents.

When the technician got out of the truck, Aguirre pointed a handgun at the technician, forced him to the ground and put his knee on the man’s back until police came, the court document said.

Aguirre allegedly directed police to a parking lot nearby where another suspect, who has not been identified, took the truck.

There are a lot of unhinged, unstable folks out there, and Trump is motivating to act upon their lunacy.

Fauci is advising Biden but not Trump on when to vaccinate — the White House has “not asked me to give a comment on that position,” Fauci told us. “I'm sure they have enough good physicians at the White House to give them advice about that.” https://t.co/lLsP4TuwCA

On The Road – ?BillinGlendaleCA – Aerochrome

Aerochrome was a false color infrared film that was developed for the War Department during World War II as a counter measure for camouflage. Real vegetation would show up in bright red where camouflage would not. After the war it was used for scientific purposes (it could help detect the health of trees) and was eventually released to the public. It’s other worldly colors were particularly popular in the late 1960’s for pop art, including album covers.

It fell into disuse in the later part of the 20th century and was discontinued by Kodak in 2011. With the rise of digital cameras, infrared photography underwent a resurgence including Aerochrome via filters or post processing. Color infrared photos are an artistic expression, there’s not a right color choice and Aerochrome emulation is one choice. I’ve taken some of my infrared photos, shot with a 590nm filter that allows a good deal of visible light to reach the sensor since they work best for Aerochrome emulation.

Glendale, CA

This is the terminal building for Grand Central Air Terminal in Glendale, which was LA’s primary airport in the 1930’s and 1940’s. This building and a few hangers is all that is left of the airport which is now a business park. The primary tenant of the park is the Giant Evil Corporation which bought and restored the terminal building.
