@rikyrah: While the FDA has ok’d the vaccine for 12- 15, it hasn’t been really ok’d yet to be given; an advisory group for the FDA has to review all the data and agree first – that should be today. Once they approve, then the shots can start.

It was mentioned in a tweet above, but it’s worth repeating that the downward plunge in people getting shots for the past several weeks has been reversed, and the rate is climbing again. If this keeps up, and we add in the 12-15 year olds, we should start making really rapid progress.

I picked up a prescription yesterday at my local CVS in Hell’s Kitchen, and saw that they are now offering walk-in vaccinations, and a couple of people were waiting out their 15 minutes.
The pharmacy area is the size of a Manhattan kitchen, but I would happily have gotten my shots there if they’d been available in March. I’m already thinking that I’ll probably be able to get my booster there when the time comes. Easy accessibility is going to be key to helping us get out of this horror show.

@HeleninEire: Thanks! I put the app on as soon as I heard about it. The pharmacist, a close acquaintance who has given me both shots, told me don’t even start looking until the final two weeks are up.

@HeleninEire: Sadly for me, I don’t think I’m ever going to get the pass. I enter my info into the site, they appear to acknowledge that I’ve had the shot and know when I have it. But when it comes time to get the pass I’m told that one isn’t available for me with a bunch of reasons why that aren’t applicable. I wrote to support to ask what might be the issue, and the response back was the same list of reasons that weren’t applicable. So if the pass ever becomes a thing…I’m not going to have one.

Rikyah:
What Cermet said, there is one more rubber stamp to go before young teens can start lining up. What I read is that the panel meets today and that shots could start tomorrow.
One thing that is different now is that the places that provide the vaccines are ready to go.
Back in December and January, the date for my MIL’s jab kept getting moved forward. She lives in a retirement home and didn’t have to schedule it herself, the plan was for a nurse to go apartmemt by apartment. When the nurse finally showed up, it was three weeks later than the original date that had been announced. They just didn’t have any doses until then.
In March, when Ohio lowered the age to 65 and over, my age group, it took me a week to get an appointment. The big university health system I use wasn’t making appointments until they had a batch of vaccines in hand, and that week I waited was inbetween deliveries.
Today, there are plenty of doses and all the logistics have been perfected. Lots of walk-in clinics, at least around here, so no need to make an appointment, just show up.
I predict Peanut will be sporting that post-shot bandaid well within a week.

Actually, I saw lots of very young appearing people being vaccinated on the network news last night, so at least some folks saw the news of the approval, and jumped on the new ability right away.
In an “emergency” like what we face now (also a cluster-fuck) I wholly approve of cutting red tape to get shots in arms. Every extra day of immunity can save lives.
And if anti-vaxxors are compelled by their distorted fear to wear masks and socially distance from vaccinated people, that might save lives as well. Masks aren’t as sure a thing as vaccinations are, but they do make a huge difference in passing the virus around. So in this case, more power to them. Assholes.
And parents will have to face vaccination requirements pretty soon if they want their kids enrolled in school next fall. Certainly college students, almost certainly Middle school and High schools students, hopefully elementary and pre-K students as well. So “back to normal” will include vaccinations for everyone, eventually, if they want to be normal at all.
