It's easy to dunk on the Republicans' weaponized ignorance and total lack of education, but, please, always remember that it's also fun.

I really don’t get most of these tweets. Slava Malamud I got.

I sent the cicada monsters to a friend. Her response ” How cool….and a bit disturbing” ?

@MagdaInBlack: My grand-daughter, aged almost-6, has been loving the cicadas. Maybe I should have her mother show her these.

So my small random joy was meeting this weekend in person with ten people, most of whom we have never met in person but who we have been playing games with over Zoom since last April. The pandemic may not be over here in southern New England, but for about forty hours we went on walks, drank a lot of really good wine, and enjoyed sharing food and fellowship with other humans in a way that hasn’t been the same since last March.
Saw this tweet this morning, and although there were no dogs with us this weekend, I could definitely share the sentiment about the return of something I’ve been missing.

You’re not alone. But then, I don’t get 90% of the tweets slapped on the screen anyway. Scrolling past them does help keep the mouse in trim, however.

The Lakers didn’t have that final gear today, but the Suns also played a heckuva game. It’s going to be a fun series I think

@raven: I will jihad along with you on that one. Running something into the ground again and again … means maybe it should stay buried.
Anyway, Sally Quinn has written a WaPost magazine essay about the death of the DC social elite.
Laughing out loud over this passage, which is nearish the top:
The Obamas wisely deciding the DC social scene was kabuki still burns, no?
And then: Look at the accompanying photographs. It’s all middle-aged and older white people in formal dress, except for (1) Vernon Jordan in a banquet photo; (2) a woman of color standing behind W, who is sporting a 10-gallon hat and (3) the Obamas.
In one backlit photo: is that an Afro? No, it is Pamela Harriman with one of those bulletproof hairdos.
Times has changed, Sally. [In fairness to her, I have not finished the article. But it reads like prime Quinn.]

My sister and BIL were here in NE Ohio for the first time in 14 months. 5 cats, stressed, so our house has issues. We met in the lovely shady back yard. No masks since everyone is fully vaxed. I led them to another part of the yard to show them our baby buckeye tree (she works at OSU and he is an alumn.) When I got to the back of the yard the pollen hit me (Spring in Ohio) so I was overcome with coughing. They were concerned was I really vaxed.
Allergies will have me masking forever. What a relief. No more pills.

@Tony Jay: Socrates lived in a slave society. Would he have a problem with Republicans other than their utter stupidity and inabilty to string together coherent thoughts?

“other than” is a very load-bearing phrase in that sentence, isn’t it? 8-)

So my little pea brain forgot to post today’s small random joy: dropping off a large quantity of styrofoam containers at the local grocery store that provides a recycling bin for said petrochemical waste.
I just left my trash bag full on top of the already full bin. I’m not totally sure they actually recycle the stuff but it was an excuse for me and the pup to go for a ride. Also got some cash at an ATM and returned a couple of library books. Good day, good day.

She concludes that it’s a good thing, and that she had been thinking about it wrong all these years.
It’s a COVID-19 revelation, though, so I am suspicious of it. A lot of people are pronouncing that Things Have Changed when they actually will go back to the way things were in a heartbeat if they get the chance.

I mentioned the track meet I coached this past Friday. This AM I received the following email from Elizabeth, one of my fastest kids, 7th grade:
”Hi Coach,
I just wanted to say you were an incredible coach at the track meet. Everyone was super hot and tired in the beginning, but you really brought the mood up.
Thank you so much for getting our team into all of these meets.
See you on Monday,

We helped friends with improving the LED’s in the rental unit in their house. Their long time tenant moved out and the light bulbs were awful or broken. They hated the very bold white tile with smaller crimson, scarlet, purple, and blue tile insets. We installed the new lights and their high-art friends loooove the floor. Friday I replaced more lights in other parts of the house. It was interesting to note that on half of the lights over the dining table made people’s faces look mustardy green and the other, with better red in the light, people seemed less corpse like.
We got a nice dinner out of the deal. They’re relieved that the apartment will be appealing. It’s got a great prospect on the florabundant back garden.

TBF, Sally was born in 1941 — and she doesn’t seem to have many younger people in her life, for some reason.
The Obamas are young enough they could be her children. Many of the Obama / Biden ‘people’ could be her grandchildren. And for a born & raised Southern Belle like Mrs. Bradlee, it’s not easy to accept these uppity kids, when you’ve got no emotional connections to anyone too young for Social Security.

@randy khan: That’s what I think about all these “we’ll never work in offices again” declarations. I’m not so sure things have changed so much permanently. Lots of people like to be together, and there are advantages to it.
Gvg
@Soprano2: it’s easier to supervise in an office.
What I think is that some high end office rentals will be phased out. Office space was already overbuilt IMO, I had noticed commercial space hasn’t been filling for the last 10 years but builders keep building more, I think when you can fill commercial space it’s more profitable. The problem is too many developers get greedy and think marginal locations will fill up if they are pretty enough. Result is a lot of empty decaying space.
I went to the mall last weekend. Desperate need for new clothes. I didn’t have much luck. The stores were horrifyingly empty of goods. They have been losing stores for years of course, but now the ones left, national chains, don’t seem to have full shelves.

What Sally Quinn really means is that the Obamas saw no reason to suck up to her and the courtiers at her salon.
She’s the same virago that sniffed that Bill Clinton “trashed the place, and it wasn’t his place”
Sally Quinn can eat a bag of salted dicks.
